Story Thus Far + Chapter 1
After Ard fantastically rose to prominence, defeating countless enemies, he found himself thrust behind enemy lines with few people he could trust.
The King of Avente wanted him dead as did the King of Garrish.
After stirring some rebellion in Garrish and discovering that King Martin was in the business of making monsters, Ard hid in the badlands where a massive magical crab made life a little uncomfortable at times.
But he w...

Hey Sentars,
Updat-a-diddily-do. Sorry I just went full Flanders and I shouldn’t have seen that, but currently I’m not even caffeinated.
DD 301 is a wrap, I need to go back and probably work a little more on that final fight. Then I am adjusting Misha’s description when we first meet her. Yanai did some art and I like it enough that I’m changing the character a little, need to share that art with you here shortly too.
I’ve been rereading AO 6 and think I have all t...

You may have seen my previous post about starting up video Q&A's - well - The first recording session is scheduled for this week! Ask your questions below for a chance to have them appear in the first video!
The questions can be about anything you want - My own work, the genre as a whole, the process or nature of writing, my story in entering the space, or even a question for Chris.
To reiterate, our plan for gathering Patreon questions, in particular, will be to look at whi...

Hey guys, I'm going to start up a new project and as my most direct supporters I want to explain how you guys are going to get some extra benefits from it.
The idea is to gather questions from various parts of my community (Patreon, Discord, etc.) and start to do a AMA-style video that will get posted to my YouTube channel. I've had the channel for awhile, but its mostly just been gathering dust. I figure its time to do something with it!
The process will be pretty simple. I'll ...

Yet when my eyes decided to work again, Karnak was kneeling, a huge chunk missing from his abdomen, big enough that I was impressed he was still kneeling and not sprawled out on the floor dead.
“Aptly done.” The older Orkai stepped forward, and I immediately relaxed, releasing [Metamorphosis]. Even as I let myself breathe, I felt the cold flash of that Nekorian’s killing intent like a blade at my neck.
This was a moment where I was in a weakened state and would be optimal fo...

I blocked Karnak’s axe, spinning around and coming at him from the other side, only to find the Orkai ready and waiting for me, a competent smirk resting on his lips.
“You’re going to have to do far better than that.” He told me.
I had half expected him to be more brutish in his fighting, especially given how loud Karnak was when he spoke. However, I quickly got the impression that he was a steady, methodical fighter as he peppered me with axe strikes, using his shield to ...

Des followed happily behind Ken as he spoke quietly to Crimson.
While Ken was speaking quietly, Crimson was making no effort to keep her voice down. As a result, Des was catching only half the conversation, which seemed to be mostly about how Crimson was coaching Ken to kick Karnak’s ass.
Des hoped that would be the case. The Orkai was considered good, even amongst his own people. She was nervous about where Ken would stack up against them. And even more nervous that Crimson, in...

The entire class attempted to clear the boss, though two groups of three were unable to take down the boss until they began testing other combinations and the order of poison, frost and fire last was most successful. Especially when they controlled their damage so they went off nearly back to back. Then essentially the only one doing damage was the fire.
Our whole extended group dove into the safe zone beyond. It was populated with plenty of people moving about, yet we couldn’t go fur...

"Boss time!" Harley said, far too chipper, as our five parties came to a stop in front of the pair of large bronze doors. Then she plopped herself down to camp.
Her party had moved in our wake, killing monsters, but generally taking it easier.
Ah. Now her excitement made sense. It wasn’t time for her to do the boss, but gossip outside the doors while a few other groups went first.
Helen had beaten our larger group of several parties there and was waiting by the door, clear...

"Are you sure you're ready?" Baloo asked, standing with his four other party mates.
"Yeah, what's the worst that could happen?" I asked, pulling my two swords out of my CID. "I need revived?" My own party squared up behind me. "Besides, I don't know too many people that would be friendly enough to show me how they fight."
Baloo shrugged. "It is no mystery. However, learning to counter the Whaleryn would be much harder than I expect you to imagine right now." He looked back at his ...

"Please, by all means, come share our fire, you and your party. We can at least give you directions to Star City. Perhaps soon, more of the cities will be reunited." I offered to the very large man.
The Whalewyrn nodded, letting out a deep, low note before clicking several times. The sound seemed to carry forever before he turned back to me and the rest of my class. "By the way, I don't mean to be rude, Incubus, but what are those?" He pointed at the women behind me.
"Ah, th...

Class resumed much as I had expected. Everything was normal, or at least as normal as could be expected with Crimson teaching. We spent our mornings in the classroom at Star City and our afternoons in the gravity chamber, with every third day spent entirely in the dungeon.
It was tough, but everybody continued because they were seeing results. There was simply no denying that our efforts were fruitful.
After two weeks of hard work, we were finally released from the daily mon...

Edit: Whoops, I think my laptop double clicked and I skipped the setup page. Enjoy the early chapter.
Our class finished up with our first day, and true to her word, Crimson made everyone run laps until they passed out. For a brief moment, I thought I would be excluded from the activity since it was, of course, a punishment for our failure to complete the completely made up summer assignment. But Crimson had decided differently.
The class had barely finished their laps by the time...

"Alright class, this should be a little more fun," Crimson said, leading us down to the first floor of the dungeon.
It was the same bog that we’d visited when we first started, the shuffle hadn’t separated the first floors attached to each of the entrances.
The space was completely empty. None of the freshmen had classes like our first day, when we were thrown in headfirst. Any other students going down today would pass us by completely.
With a negligent flick of her wri...

After the less-than-exciting opening address from the headmistress, I found myself back in a classroom, with familiar faces trickling in one after the other. Harley grabbed the chair in front of me, spun it around, and plopped herself in it backwards.
"So, tell us, Ken, what new torture methods did Crimson develop this summer?" Harley tilted her head to the side, her face remaining stoic.
I rolled my eyes. "It wasn't that bad. Mostly, we stuck to the gravity chamber. And the...

I took a deep breath as we stepped back onto Haylon proper. The new freshmen this year were already on campus, waiting outside the visitor center as if they had been awaiting my arrival. They were giggling and whispering to each other in a way that made me deeply uncomfortable.
"Shoo, shoo," Des walked out in front of me. "You'll want to get out of the way before Crimson comes through."
While her initial shooing had limited to no reaction, the mention of Crimson made the new...

I entered the brightly lit hall with Des and Felin in tow.
The place was massive. Dozens of long tables, each seating thirty, filled the room. A platform several steps higher than the rest of the room held a single long table. My grandparents, several older members of the Nagato clan who had rejoined us as we rebuilt, as well as Crimson, Charlotte, and Penny, were all seated in the elevated area. Charlotte had discarded her apron and was sitting comfortably near the head of the table.&n...

I stood at the front doorway to a massive hall in the inner court, it was big enough to seat hundreds.
Another person walked up to shake my hand and introduce themselves with a giant smile on their face.
“You’ll do great at Haylon. I’m Travis, we just joined Silver Fangs.” He gestured at a woman behind him.
Grandma Sakura had plopped me down here and I had been greeting every single person to enter the hall.
“Thank you and welcome in. We are honored to have y...

As soon as I stepped through the portal bringing us to the Nagato Estate, a massive surge of bloodlust hit me straight in the gut. A powerful sword light raced down atop my head.
I spun out of the way, bringing one of my swords out of my CID with the flick of my wrist, and caught my attacker's strike before spinning and countering with my own.
Grandpa flung himself to the side and barely managed to block as his feet dragged a line in the grass. My blow was strong enough to p...

In Neko City, deep within the dungeon, the Nekorian City filled several safe zones and spilled out into the surrounding areas.
Lucian sat in the healing chambers, his grandmother's body covered once again. It had been brought here to their tribe’s home months after the incident because the new routes within the dungeon were still being explored. He had grown tired of seeing her ravaged form laid out before him, yet he wasn't ready to leave his sister lay unconscious several beds over....

"Oh, come on, just a hundred more," Crimson pressed.
Sweat dripped off my nose and I could feel the weight of her rear pressed into the small of my back. "Eight hundred and sixty-one," I ground out with another push-up as Crimson flicked away at her CID while sitting astride me with her legs crossed.
"There you go. You still have some energy left. I bet everyone else worked their asses off over summer break."
I paused at the top of the push-up and glanced over my ...

Hello!
That concludes RD 4. I hope you all enjoyed that one. Something as grand a global apocalypse is hard to encapsulate, but I did my best to show various points of the world and how things were changing as a result. Bran and his Mul Branova are making a difference this time around. We've got the Trial of Kings to get done though and Bran's going to have to do it as fast as he humanly can to get back to the other things that were all swirling.
Up next is Dungeon Diving 301. I'm...

I staggered to my feet in an empty void, unsure where I was given everything around me was nearly pitch black. But when I held my hands up in front of me and wiggled my fingers, I could see them clearly despite the lack of light.
Suddenly, a speck of green off in the distance began to swirl and spin, growing closer and closer.
The last thing I could recall was being thrown into the Trial of Kings by Winnie when she’d used an explosive to push us through the door. I was starting ...

"So." Circe stood next to me. “You're certain I can't defeat the trials?"
I turned to her slightly, trying to get a read on the real question. I now understood she had a significant desire to keep up with me, and everything I was doing was making that harder and harder. If I passed the Trial of Kings, it would be nearly impossible for her to catch up.
There were a few others in my past life who had managed to come up to be the same level as the Kings, at least when they were ali...

It hadn't even been half an hour since I had returned to Tartarus from the fortress and my fight with Vidar before more startling news quickly began spreading.
Mul Branova came rushing towards me, both of them flying like arrows from a bow. They came to a skidding stop, panting as they bent over.
"Lord Bran, forces approach. It's an army," they gasped.
I turned to both of them, stunned. "Demons?"
They both looked at each other and hesitated. "I don't know. They're wear...

The Mul Branova moved around, working to rebuild from the wreckage.
The fortress was shattered, but thankfully, there were people amongst us with the abilities and power to fix it far more quickly than one might expect. Each member of the Mul Branova possessed the strength to be their own piece of industrial equipment, making the task move far faster than it could before the Rapture.
"What are we doing with her?" Circe asked, over at Venthra.
I had just finished ripping thro...

I moved forward, striking back at Vidar as the blood within me sang. Each swing became stronger and stronger as whatever shackles he put on my bloodline cracked away.
He stood, his massive form beginning to twinkle as he prepared an ability. When he threw his hands forward, it was like the stars themselves poured out of his palm to attack me.
The blood flowing to me seemed exceptionally receptive to my thoughts. I wove a blood hex in mid-air that managed to intercept the strike.

The door to the room where Venthra had been staying shattered inwards as a thick-booted foot entered the room. Venthra flinched and ducked low while I moved my body in front of her, standing firm with my arms crossed. My clothes were plastered to me with drying blood. However, my body was perfectly fine, Immortal Body had done its job in keeping me healthy despite all of the stab wounds.
Vidar grinned at the sight of me. "Two of my problems in one place. How perfect," he said. The large...

Charging through the fortress, I heard a scream from farther up. I gave a small silent apology to Simone before I swung the Bloodiron Blade high above my head with four quick flicks of my wrist releasing Sanguine Slashes that carved a square chunk out of the ceiling that fell with a boom, announcing my presence to everyone above.
But I was done with subtlety, and I was done waiting as I jumped up through the hole. I wanted Vidar’s head separated from his body for what he’d done here...
