Untitled Comic Concept

This was just a little idea that had crossed my mind. I like the idea of a genderfluid character with the ability to change their appearance to reflect how they feel on the inside but I couldn't find a good example of one so I made my own. I'll never have the time to explore this any further, which is why I'm not bothering to think up a proper name for the story, maybe Switching Sam or Changing Charlie or something, but if anyone ever makes a story like this I'll be all for it. One big concern I have when it comes to character design is finding ways to make sure each person I think up looks as little like anyone else as possible. There tends to be crossover here and there, the big round glasses for example are not the first I've ever drawn, so her look may be subject to change..

DMC: Chapter 3 - Part 5

The subject of this latest saga in DMC. I swear I went through a hundred different faces before I settled on this one. When you have a character who's all backstory and no dialogue, it reallys messes up your funky writing flow.

I have to say though, of all the three client characters I've written for, her story is by far my favourite. Can't wait til we actually get to the thing.

I hate going so extreme with Valeria's expressions because I know I have to somehow outdo myself the next time. I mean look at her, she took up so many expressions that Rangi couldn't afford any for himself this chapter.

DMC: Chapter 3 - Part 3

Literally trapped. Expect a lot of DMC lore by the way, cause I'm writing like crazy and you know what that means: character concepts! This is the first comic I've done where I've had cause to do an ensemble cast, though I know it isn't exactly swarming with people right now. Devil May Care - Returning Very Soon

First look! I've already semi-completed the first two pages (which will come out as a double-length upload next month) and eagerly chiseling away at the others. I've estimated this one at about 16 pages this time, and I must say it's some of my finest writing yet. Well, maybe. You be the judge.

Roundhouse - The Fireman: Part 12

Okay NOW it's done. I'm aiming to only do long-form Roundhouse stories from now on, like the one I just showed ya, but RH is gonna take a little bit of a break for now. It's time for me to give Devil May Care the attention it's desperately craving. What did you think of this arc though? I dunno, I kinda liked it.

Don't worry, I won't leave Roundhouse for too long. As I said elsewhere, this comic will only die when I do.

Roundhouse - The Fireman: Part 11

This is it people, welcome to the end times. Well, the end of this particular story arc anyway. Well, I say that, but this is the first of a two-parter because I couldn't fit this final scene onto one page without killing the pacing stone dead. I don't know why I'm telling you this, I'm gonna post the final page in the next five minutes anyway.

Devil May Care Theme Song

This is the song I always pictured would be used for the theoretical opening credits to this theoretical cartoon. It's six minutes long so try to imagine it condensed into the appropriate 90-second timeframe. If you have a close listen to the lyrics you may realise why I like this song for this series.

Roundhouse - The Fireman: Part 10

One of the many active chainsaws I have to juggle is keeping enough space of a page to squeeze in all the dialogue. I decided a long time ago that I want to keep the text at a consistent size with the exception of changes in volume (such as in the first panel here, actually). This is the penultimate entry of the arc. Last one is a two-pager.

WiP: The Music Room

Let's not pretend I'm trying to educate anyone here. This is just me showing off. This panel took a butt-ton of effort but I had a VISION damn it, and I even got halfway to meeting it. 

The music room itself took a fair bit of time to set up in 3D but that's what you gotta do when you spend all your time on expressions and none on perspective.

It's been an absolute age since the last time I did a pixel animation and I found myself somewhat in the mood for one. It's way harder than I remember, turns out. Fun fact, I tried to draw a night sky design on her leggings but it turned into a whole background, what the hell?

Valeria and Rangi Concepts for Chapter 3

The trouble with Devil May Care is that the key characters don't have one single outfit they always wear, so I have to do a whole lot of fashion research. As far as Valeria goes I always tend to the hip-hop side of things, where with Rangi I just want him to look visibly soft. Fortunately these chapters always take place over many several pages with just the one scene, or at least that's how it is for now. I guess what I'm trying to say is be prepared for more of these guys.

Party Dress Lee

After weeks of begging, Freddy was finally able to convince Lee to go out clubbing with her. Lee was firmly against it at first, until Basil presented her with a modified version of her favourite top, after which she grudgingly caved in. In the midst of all the dancing and the noise, she reflected that she didn't mind not getting recognition for her heroic deeds. But after tonight, she'd better get a damn medal.

Lee in Portrait - Again

I've been trying to work myself back up to doing some painting style artwork again. The first one is a tentative experiment. The second one took a little longer. It would have its own post except this is one of the sketch requests I'll be posting on Insta in a little while so consider the first one the real secret. The second is Lee as a true villain, though I dread to think what tragic backstory would lead her down that path. I don't like to think about it, personally.

Chandler Concepts

The problem I faced with this dude was not making him too much like an actual supervillain. He's just meant to be some guy. So I swapped out his goggles for sunglasses and tried to make him a little less imposing. That's the trouble with writing a world that is meant to, on paper, be normal. The temptation to create wacky characters is hard to resist.
