Adoptable- sketch and shading

ahhhhhhh, here i am again, thank yall for your continued patience - gonna hopefully have a better track record in a bit since I'm hoping to get some extra income to prepare to move out - so I'll have some more stuff to actively post about.

If anyone is interested and has a deviantart account they can join the bidding here: https://www.deviantart.com/remarin/art/Adopt-01-AUCTION-OP...

Secret Santa: Leo process

Oof fell off the train again for a while, still gonna be a while till I can confidently say I'm fully back online - but I'll keep trying on and off till then.

I won't dwell on it for too long this time but instead just jumpright into some extra info about the post itself:

Step 1 to 3 are all the usual straight forward things you'd expect, sketch around, start putting in flat color when you're satisfied with the gesture, add shading and light colors on top of it to get a vibe goi...

dnd backstory

The dragonborn didn't have such a good time towards the end of his military service 😔 hasn't processed much of that stuff yet either, but I think it's safe to say that the adventuring life will be a better fit for him.

Misc character

Another dnd character, but this time it's just one of those character concepts that might wait on the sidelines for a looooong time ;w;
But at least the build and the design is all done, ready to come into play whenever ; the main design idea was: Minotaur, but make it deer uwu

"find edges" photoshop filter!

After my last post, I realized it would probably help to have a before-after visual of what the filter actually does! You see it does add some seemingly random colors to the lines, but that can be quickly adjusted with color adjust sliders, or an additional layer set to "color" or "hue" to assign a handpicked color to the filter-layer.

Also I'll say the filter does push the artwork in a very specific style, so if there are any aspects that HAVe to be soft-looking, you'll need to be car...

You can find the full image on my deviantart/twitter! https://www.deviantart.com/remarin/art/ArtFight-Dalmar-888876045
But here's the quick overview of the process, from sketch, lines, flat color, shading to finishing touches/color correction!

I've recently discovered a neat trick to add outlines to shading, giving it that kinda watercolor-edge pigmentation feel - under Photosho...

Oneshot Character

Another dnd character I designed for a oneshot, and here I made the grave mistake of getting emotionally attached ;; But at least now, if I ever enter a situation where a party needs a rogue, then I have a plan for it ready.
But yes, this is a lvl 10 Tabaxi rogue, with the Soulknife subclass - really fun to play even without having had much opportunity to do roleplay. And the design is based off of the Havanna Brown cat breed!

scene - dagger incident

Some weird stuff happening in this campaign! Something I think I have yet to mention is that it turns out my Tiefling actually counts as an "Aberration", which basically means she has some funky stuff going on with her body.

Also turns out, after interacting with some fish-people, a kind of defense-mechanism was triggered and a magic web/weave was being released from me. Thus after a tense moment with our local bear woman-druid we decided the best course of action was to perform impro...

oneshot character

For a oneshot a friend of mine dm'ed, a Fey Wanderer Ranger - first time playing a long range melee based character! Had quite a bit of fun figuring out the proper methods.

And of course I had to design the whole thing even though I might never return to this character ever again, that's just how it is.

Looking at character classes, I do believe I enjoy classes the most that can hold their own in melee, but still have a lil bit of casting abilities - that being said tho, in my c...

Ages -

Dont want to limit todays update just to a meme post, so here have a quick and easy overview of my Tiefling character!
Grew up in a relatively normal household with a Wizard dad, something went wrong along the way, got a case of slight Amnesia and now has some weird funky stuff involving mirrors and shadows happening to her at random times uwu

welp

And now here's the thing; I don't have any full group pictures of the other campaign I'm in other than this meme one...
But you can also go to https://twitter.com/AwkwardosThe3rd/status/1409525485663576065 Awk has a bunch more dnd art for this campaign!

Process -

Here is the process of that group picture!
It goes:

Sketch 1 - defining proportions ( gotta get the height differences right) and general poses

Sketch 2 - refine anatomy and plan out detail; clothing, expressions

Lineart - self-explanatory

Flat-color (mostly) - When dealing with armor, I tend to get some of that reflective sheen on there even before shading, since it's its own texture basically.

Shading - multiple layers of different effects, but it all ...

okok Gonna get my act together and revive my online presence again, it's gone on too long!

What's been keeping me busy these past months? Well mainly working on some big projects that I can't talk much about yet; but outside of that I've been getting deep into DnD! Which also means I've been drawing a lot of dnd stuff as well!

If any of you follow me on Twitter you might know I currently play in 2 campaigns, one with the Dragonborn on the left up top there ^^^ and the other with...

Illustration - Minotaur

hoooh boy lots of things to get used to recently, joined 2 dnd campaigns and gotta get used to having a slightly wonky sleep schedule, on top of the burning need to create new character builds, and draw dnd related art in general

Quite tricky when you're working on a real big side project on top of that 😬 but things are starting to even out!

Commissioned piece - Tekell

Ahhhhh January was a bit tough, I've learned my lesson, never give away your weekends for more work - I basically haven't drawn any personal art at all during that whole first month - and even though we are midway through February I still feel a bit restless --

Thank y'all for being so patient! I have here a commission I had on my to-do-list since last year, but you might notice quite a different-looking WIP-version included here - that WIP sat in my folder since September and just thi...

Art Advice Archive #2 (follow-up)

Oh hey! It's the same question-asker from the first entry of this relatively new series! (link to the previous post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/art-advice-1-44121725 )
Their follow-up was less directly a question, but I still felt I could maybe help out some more - so here's a short overview of what their follow-up reply touched on:

Tiefling man - Process

A random sketch turned into painting practice, though, midway through rendering the face, I ended up restarting because it just didnt feel right - I went and looked at some photo references of portraits, and focused on the way light affected the skin, instead of just painting in where I thought the lighter areas should be in reference to the source.

studying teeth

specifically the front teeth of canines!

Came across this lil video on twitter https://twitter.com/nywolforg/status/1331579639542722563 which beautifully shows how that whole nose area just slides up when snarling! Got me motivated to take a closer look at the whole business there! You can even see the nostrils flex

After all, I never really know what to do with the bottom teeth sinc...

Art Advice Archive #1 (self-improvement & more)

you know what? I tend to get private messages like "how do I improve X??" and I make a point of always taking the time to write out serious answers no matter how many times I've answered similar ones before - but I've always had in the back of my mind thoughts like " 2 hours later and now I have this wall of text... maybe I can post it somewhere at some point, instead of it being lost in my messaging history"

And then I realized here I have the perfect place for some extra info ...

Gonna post the video process of this soon on youtube!
It's been a while since I just drew for myself, so I tried just letting loose and play around with colors!

Though this just brought up smth I keep forgetting that I need to look into - I'm still not entirely sure what I'm doing when it comes to painting eyes, and the area around them. I technically know what it's supposed to look like, but I just end up with smth not entirely satifsying after going on autopilot. I always have to...

Lycan wip: Halfling

a big project and I'm slowly chipping away at it! Recently posted the first entry of this dnd Lycan line-up with that normal human werewolf, and next up is Halfling! I was initially considering calling it a Halfling/Gnome since their bodytypes are fairly similar, but I decided it's simpler/cleaner to just pick one and focus on that.

Just need to do some clean-up on this one, and I can move on to the dwarf! Though, hm probably need to make that tail curve to the left to make that hand a...

Monstober: Monsters and Humans - process

ayy finally got around to putting together one last process thing from the monstober lineup!

I normally don't work with such rough sketches for the lineart and would usually do 1 more sketch pass, where I work out the proper shapes and refine posing/proportions/anatomy.... But when I was at that point, I only had 1 day left until it was supposed to be posted, so I was going for efficiency! The lineart step and thet initial coloring step were all done the day before the deadline, and t...

only 2 more left!!! Haven't started on "bone armor" yet so I have no idea what to do for that one, but Im gonna try to keep it simple/quick?? I have a sketch ready for the last one, "humans and monsters" and I of course had to go and do a big group picture D: no idea what level of finish it'll be in when it's time to post, maybe I have to keep it flat colored, or black&white?? we'll see

Monstober: Wrinkles - process

It shouldn't have come as a surprise that drawing melty skin felt natrual to do, considering the first character design that really stuck with me, has the defining feature of being basically a skeleton that has tear-away furpelt

Monstober: Gentle Giant - Process

Who didnt see this coming with a prompt like this, obviously it's gonna be a bigA** dragon just chilling

Took the time to plan things out with proper linework this time, to give myself more to work with when coloring in - I tend to feel a bit lost when painting big scenes - Still kept everything loose though!

Monstober: From The Depths - Process

huh....well this turned out to be smth

I originally thought I'd just go with some big shadow thing creeping out of a crevasse for this theme to move away from the water stuff that I already got in several other prompts.... but when I actually sat down to draw my brain just said "nuh-uh sexy undead water ladies" and there was nothing else, so now here we are

Next prompt is "from the depths" but both my Kaiju entry and my next "bioluminescent" entry could apply to that >: I
a normal person would just do the reasonable thing and post the biolumi one as a merger with the "from the depths" day, but i want to have a clean 31 entries at the end, so i cant do that...
