I am swamped as we try to get the Marvels Snapshot script done by next week, digging up money for our oven and car and bills, and trying to set up some work to jump to as soon as possible. And working out the commissions (thanks, you who know you should be thanked). So I'm sorry for not posting as much lately.
Above is a rough sketch I did to help describe the first panel of the Marvels comic. Too many working parts, so I just doodled it up. It's no spoiler, it's old events from 2...

I wanted to let folks know I've received a number of responses to the commissions list post (thanks very much), and will get back to everyone in the next few days.
Work got hectic this week and then got even more nuts yesterday after pages, layouts and lettering dropped from all three projects I'm currently working on. So I figured I'd take the opportunity to discuss what happens behind the scenes when you're working on comics insofar as the "dull" stuff goes. Revisions, finding e...

I have one Milk & Cheese commission on the board to finish, and I was going to wait until that was done before opening the commissions list up, but holy goodnight, the oven just broke and we need to get that taken care of asap and January traditionally sucks for us.
So, I'm opening the list up for basic 9" x 12" pinups, offering slots to Patreon backers before I solicit anything on social media.
Black and white starts at $200, color starts at $250 (shipping not included)...

We just put the last two Milk & Cheese trading card production cels up for auction on eBay. We're keeping two cels for ourselves, along with the Action Girl chase card cel. Otherwise, they're all gone, including the other four chase card pieces..
FYI, if a Patreon backer is the high bidder on either of the cels, they will get a free "thank you" sketch like the one pictured above (thanks, Theo!). Just let me know you're a backer while we're doing the transaction.

These were done for the Eltingville Club collection. I originally wanted to draw them in the style of the old Jack Kirby Marvel pin-up pages, but didn't have time to work on accurate pastiches. Instead I ended up with a design for them that was inspired by a Jack Davis title page from Tales From The Crypt, which featured the Crypt-Keeper in front of a gallery of hanging faces. Pete -- The Secretary of Horror -- was the first piece I worked on, so I was looking at horror imag...

9" x 12", Tombow and Micron pens, Pitt brush pen, rapidograph, AD marker, prismacolor pencils, Pentel jumbo correction pen. And a lot of reference.
Done for a friend-of-a-friend for their birthday. Sat on posting it because it was a surprise (gift Spoilers!). I have one M&C pin-up left on the commissions list, which is mostly inked. Have to spend some time on scripts and going over Blackwood and Marvels Snapshot business, but I hope to catch up on commissions early this month.

I'm trying to get the last of the 2019 commissions out, I got a birthday gift pin-up done last week for a friend of a friend, and finally finished this one up tonight. A request for Milk & Cheese with the family cat, LG (Little Girl, who is blind) and a pineapple. I added another pineapple for balance, some beer bottles for M&C to placate them over appearing in a non-aggressive pin-up, and tossed in the textures and the ribbon for my OCD. I still don't know what the pineapple signifie...

I've known for some time that the only way I could possibly get another issue of DORK done would be as part of a Patreon. I used to be able to put most of my SLG comics together around creator-owned material done for anthologies like DEADLINE, DARK HORSE PRESENTS and ONI DOUBLE FEATURE, as well as material done for zines and the odd magazine gig for ESQUIRE or what have you.
All three sources dried up over the years, and I hung on longer than I should have at SLG because I'm loyal...

It was just announced, so now I can share the cover of one of the secret projects we've hinted at on Twitter these past few months. Sarah and I are writing one of the eight MARVELS one-shots coming out next year, and our BEASTS OF BURDEN teammate Benjamin Dewey is illustrating it.
While the FF is featured and up front and present on the title, it's focus is on Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, attending his 10th-year high school reunion in Glenville, Long Island. The actual POV of th...

This has been a bad week and the coming week isn't looking too great, either. Sarah was sick, then I got sick, and I've started therapy so a lot of garbage is falling out of my head while I'm dealing with some severe depression, and the car is still not safe to drive but I have important errands I have to run and the mass transit out here sucks and I'm late on my end of a script and it's holding up everyone and I'm stressed out/intimidated by the project which keeps me awake all night and the...

Sarah and I are contributing an illustration to the companion book for the upcoming GRUMMY short film that was funded by creator Micheline Pitt on Kickstarter.
I thought I'd show off the process on the drawing here.

So, I had an idea in mind for the pin-up before going into roughs, which of course always helps things move along. The GRUMMY project deals with c...

I liked doing LP and CD art, and the bummer is I became a better artist just at the point where people stopped asking me to do anything for them. The Uncle Floyd piece for the Dr. Demento project and the cover I did for MC Frontalot are the two exceptions. Ha ha, that reminds me, I used to do art for The Exceptions. They never paid me for a t-shirt design from a few years ago. That was disappointing. Alas and alack, I am scuttled.

And thanks to everyone who had already joined us in October.
In case you missed it, here's a Milk & Cheese strip which was collected in the Dork hardcover, originally presented in House of Fun from Dark Horse Comics.
The long-term plan here is to do new comics for the Patreon once my schedule gets sorted out a bit more. The Patreon will basically be where the new "Dork" comics go since there's no real venue for the gag stuff anymore other than dir...

We've just auctioned off the first of seven Milk & Cheese trading card production cels (still waiting for the buyer to pay up, but we're giving it them the benefit of the doubt with the holidays and all) and now the next two available pieces are up. There will be four more cels available after these and they'll probably also be listed in sets of two.
If a HOF Patron bids on any of these and wins, let us know during the payment round so we can pad the envelope with extra stuff...

Yee-ha, it's William "Flint" Marko, aka, The Sandman. Please enjoy this appreciation of the Marvel Comics villain written back in November 3rd, 2011 on my my now-moribund Live Journal account.
The Sandman was one of my bestest most favorite villains from the Marvel Age of Comics, he's also my favorite character in comics to be named "The Sandman" (There are at least four of them kicking around that I'm aware of: Marvel villain, DC gas mask-wearing hero who then started wear...

Back in the 80's I started sending gag panel cartoons to Comics Buyers Guide, most of which featured a talking hot dog named Weenie. Weenie was a character I was drawing on store signs at the comic shop I worked at, Jim Hanley's Universe. He was a goofy little guy who made comments on comics and products and sometimes dressed up in cosplay outfits (not that the term was in use back then). He liked to wear a Galactus helmet but it was too heavy for him and he'd fall down a set of stai...

We decided to sell seven of the nine remaining M&C trading card cels painted by Sarah, and also decided to put them on eBay. Since they're our last card specimens going back to 1995 (unless I goofed all the black and white front card art is gone), they're priced on the high side. If anyone backing the Patreon chooses to bid on it and wins, we'll throw extra stuff into the package including some M&C commission layouts I found and a quick but cute little M&C doodle for you. Just let...

Although the Patreon is only a month or so old, it already means a lot to me -- and that goes beyond the financial support. I enjoy being here and enjoy having this forum and space to share with you. I appreciate every one of you being here and look forward to digging up more archival items while also showing you what's coming next. And working on some new material that will be for the Patreon directly.
Thanks for being here. It's appreciated.

This was a piece I did for fun a few years ago, to try to rekindle an interest in drawing, which I wasn't all that interested in at the time. I was pretty happy with it, and started another old Atlas creature piece ("Monstrom!"), hoping to do a small series of them over time. The second piece went off the rails (too much detailing/texture, muddying the entire thing) and I reworked it and pulled up the correction ink with a razor and reworked it and applied the razor blade over and over, incre...
