I understand that Eldritch horrors are very fish-related. But so much fanart I saw of Marit Lage looked like a kraken, or a shark thing. I wanted to retain that fishiness, but really make her look otherworldly and weird. It helps and hurts that there's so little official art to go off of. I had less material to clearly reference, but I got to have fun!

Also, sorry it's missing the pencils. I just painted right over those without even realizing.

If nothing else, making these tokens gives me the opportunity to look closer at Magic art and see how weird it really is. What is up with these horses?? Crested Sunmare looks like a greyhound with a horse head. But credit to Wizards for innovating on the horse.

I only just realized while making this that on the art for Curse of Opulence, people aren't throwing gold AT him, it's spouting from his pockets. Which makes WAY more sense.

Well, I asked y'all to challenge me, and here we are. I've done what I can to make some Kelp look interesting and fun, and I hope I succeeded.

I wasn't around for it, but I really like the age of weird, whatever-feels-right tokens. So many tokens back then were extremely unique, extremely card-specific, and possibly very unnecessary. And I know we do get unique tokens now, but they're usually legendary or for big splashy cards. Bring back The Hive!

How does everybody feel about proxies?

It feels like a hotly debated topic, even though I think the community is warming up to it. I myself used to think it was a terrible idea, but my old playgroup was in a massive arms race, so I think that influenced it. These days, I proxy a lot. Wizards hasn't exactly made it easy for me to justify the expense of Magic.

Anyway, this is just an excuse to show off some proxies I made for my Jund Elves Aristocrat deck. I thought my girls weren't fancy enough.

Purchasing extra copies!

Hello! I've recently had some questions about purchasing extra copies of the monthly tokens, and I realized I've never addressed it! So here's how it'll work. Towards the end of each month, after the art and process videos have been posted, I'll make a post reminding everyone to message me if they want any extra copies. The extra copies will be 1.50 USD apiece, and can only be of the current month's tokens.

After you've established with me how many of what tokens you want extra, I'll make a listing specifically for you in my Etsy shop with free shipping (because I'll ship them along with your Patreon). I think this works best, because it's the easiest way for both US and international patrons to purchase from me with minimal hassle and fees.

But I am open to suggestions! If there's a better system for everyone, I am very willing to change it up if something works better.

TLDR: Extra copies are $1.50, message me at the end of each month.

Merfolk (XLN) Timelapse

Comin' in hot with the Merfolk timelapse. Some days, you sit down and you knock it out in no time. Some days, you just sit and enjoy the work. This was a very casual, very relaxing work session that lasted much longer than it "should have." And I think it was well worth it.

I may have some opinions on the humanization of Merfolk. Frankly, they shouldn't have ever had legs. But Ixalan still manages to rank as one of my favorite Merfolk variations. They have, like, plumage, like a tropical fish.

Went really loose with the sketch on this one, because I knew that the fun of it was going to be the shading and the detail in the jade. And I was right. I even made a new Ixalan-specific textbox that you WILL be seeing more of in the future.

I forgot to start recording the sketching, and I'm very sorry about that, because finding the pose and the proportions was fun! And a bit of a challenge, but I appreciate that. Even as a big man myself, I so often limit the body types I draw, and this was refreshing.

Haven't edited the Bear timelapse yet, so I thought I'd share one I have! This is a Horror token I made for Zellix from the new Commander Legends decks. I don't know why the official token is another Illithid, it makes so much more sense for them to be these little brain boys.
