This is a smaller update, you can get all the details on what's going on in my blog post here! This is the Deluxe version, at double the resolution, cheats optional, with the Completionist's Map included to give you hints on where you haven't seen everything yet!

My most complex endeavor yet, though it may not be immediately obvious how much is going on under the hood. I highly recommend you at least read the tutorial properly before starting as the game doesn't have a lot of important quality of life features built in yet.
If you'd like to know more about what's going on with this game and what to expect going in (which I'd encourage, though it's not so urgent) you can read all about it in 2021-03-09 03:53:12 +0000 UTC

Well, I let this one slide away for a while under various excuses because I wasn't satisfied with how things were going. I finally got Project Wild One to a playable state, which meant I could put a pause on programming and heavy duty back engine game design at long last, and... the transition has been a lot harder than I expected. The more I've pushed myself to get back into the swing with writing on MVOL, the less I've gotten done with it.
I talked about this some in the recent Side-...

Hello. So far with these side-writes I've tried to theme them around what I'm working on next, and with the Wild One making the rounds, next up on my plate is a small update for My Very Own Lith. Now, in the past, I would write "diaries" for Lith while I was working on his game, and my first thought was to do another one of those, for old time's sake. But... Lith already said his goodbyes in the last entry, and I think it would feel kinda hollow to push out another one after that. His diaries...

The first prototype of Project Wild One has just shipped out to Power Players and above!
If you can see this, you should already have access to this game through another post, and you can enter this cheat code in the options menu. For now, it gives you an extra button that instantly ends any encounter you're in and starts a new one. This lets you hop rapidfire to find just the sort of creature you'd like to meet, or just easily escape "clingier" characters, or an encounter that has got...

Not everyone that can see this post will have access to the game just yet, but if and when you do, you can enter this cheat code in the options menu. For now, it allows you unlimited upgrades so you can jump straight to being an overpowered late-game monster if you so choose, though building up your Satisfaction first will at least let you pick and choose your upgrades with more freedom. I hope you...

Here's a series of pieces that seemed really simple but ended up taking ages and a lot more work than expected to really get just right. We thought that the silhouettes would make it simpler, and it does in some ways, but I still wanted it to have a striking style that had a very specific feel to it, and we struggled a lot with that, going through a lot of iterations before we finally arrived here. I'm pretty happy with how these have turned out, and I hope they'll help the game feel a little...

Project Wild One is finally almost ready to ship v0.01! This should be the last side-write for this particular setting for a little while, and once again I was having a little trouble since this game is less story-oriented, but I took this chance to think more over what this world will have to be like by necessity.
I've touched on this a few times in the past, but the fact that this is a world where death isn't "a big deal" does create a lot of interesting implications. As soon as that...

Things are finally coming together! It's been a long, difficult road turning Project Wild One from a feverish, passionate dream to something remotely playable, but I finally got the game actually running at all recently after all the big additions and changes I needed to make, and I've been picking up steam since then! It's definitely been a big help...

Got a shorter side-write for this month. Project Wild One is hopefully nearing completion for v0.01, finally, but it's really dragged out and worn me down. At this point I wasn't sure what to write about, it's a bit of a tough subject to draw from just because the story is still so up in the air, as I've mentioned before.
In the end, I decided to use this as a space for something of a thought exercise, focused on things that will be coming up in the future for this project. I have a lo...

Phew! This one has been in the pipes a looong time. We ran into a lot of delays and ran through a lot of sketches to really get the look and feel of this moment right, and it's one of those pieces I feel a little like I could just keep adjusting forever, so I had to pick a point to say good enough and move on. I think it's still come out pretty solid, though I might mess with the color balancing or something like that before it goes into the game. 2020-12-30 01:55:16 +0000 UTC

This is another journal I found myself putting off hoping I'd have better news tomorrow, but it's stretched on too long and I at least feel a little better today.
Project Wild One has undoubtedly been the single most complicated thing I've tried to create over the span of a few months. I'm not sure if it's already more complex than the entirety of logic behind MVOL, but it's not only been much more intense to figure out day to day, but a real marathon of a job, and it's been grinding m...

These are still a little tough to do at the moment. The side-write idea was really more focused on projects more similar to MVOL, where the story is the focus from the start and I've got a lot more to work with. For Project Wild One, there's still going to be a lot of things that are up in the air story-wise even after v0.01, so it's a lot more blank slate for writing any kind of "background info" or similar.
That said, that also means this is a good way to explore the ideas a...

I've already gotten several pieces from Khuraji for this particular section of the game, and I have to admit, it was bugging me just how much the introductory art for that chapter contradicted the rest. I'd always been a little disappointed with how that piece came out, to be honest, so while it feels bittersweet to replace art altogether, I think in this case it's going to be a vast improvement. I'm hoping this ...

Happy Halloween! I hadn't been sure what to do for this one, as I should definitely make this one about Project Wild One, but a lot of the lore is still up in the air as I refine the mechanics and build around them. But I realized that what I did have at the ready could actually match up pretty well with the season: it's time for a spooky story! Of course, I don't think it really came out all that spooky so much as... well, you'll see.
As usual, this isn't considered officiall...

If by some chance you missed it, I've gone over all the context for this choice over in my Dev Journal here!
The short version is, Project Wild One has taken longer than I hoped, but I could have it done soon... if I skipped building an AI and just let the player control both characters. I feel like this would be really underwhelming, but I also feel bad going so long between releases. The alternatives are t...

I'm going to be a bit rambly here, but it comes around to explaining an upcoming vote near the end! I started intending to write this journal at least a week ago, but that came along with the thought, "shoot, I said last time I'd be putting out a vote soon for what sort of NPCs you'd like to encounter, I should pair those up so I can explain what's going on a bit and offer the vote along with it!" Because last time, I used my journal as a launching point for discussion on the...

I'm deep in the development of Project Wild One, but with the first build of Project Matchmaker coming out earlier this month and going public in a few days, I figured it'd be good to put in one more on Safron and Mala's world. I do still feel shaky on some aspects of Mala's people and how they live, so I decided to explore that a little through the lens of how Safron's people might see it in this somewhat implausible article I roughed out.
As usual, this isn't strictly canon so much a...

Well, as you might guess from the delay on this one, things have slowed down some since that flurry of activity I reported in the last public journal. I'm still working on building a lot of backend code, mostly pretty abstract stuff, but it's not going as rapidfire as when I first started putting down the very basics.
But that's okay! That's pretty much what I expected. I knew that once I started really trying to get all the details in place to make all these ideas "work," I'd run into...

The first time you complete a level you get a new skill unlock, which can be used to modify/upgrade your character to better specialize it for how you want to play. A good ways back I got a piece from CuccoKing for indulging with Amelia in the kitchen, and I knew when I saw how well it came out that I'd need to get a companion piece for it sometime! Well, I finally managed to get another slot from the artist, and we'll now have a lovely matched pair for indulgences in the kitchen. This piece may have gone the most smoothly out of any art I've ever commissioned for the gam...

I told myself I wouldn't let it slide to the end of the month, but the whole last week things kept getting in the way, and here we are! My general goal with these side-writes is to try and give a little extra insight into characters or the worlds I'm building, things like that, so there's a lot of flexibility for that. I don't consider them strictly canon, so things you see in these may end up being refuted later as I put more polish on the games themselves, but I guess that means they're a l...

Well, as you may have seen in my last journal, I hit a substantial slowdown. I'm still a little out of it, but I'm happy to report I was able to whip myself into shape a little not long after that post. Maybe taking the time to really express how I was feeling a little helped?
I did manage to get a decent chunk of writing done last week, though I didn't get as far as I'd hoped. Still, I th...

New concepts mean a lot of ideas I don't have any kind of refs for, and that can make art assets especially challenging! Leslongxia was very patient and receptive in working through that process, though. There's always some things I'm flexible on and a lot that I have to be super stringent about, and we probably went through a couple dozen sketches and such working our way around to designs I could finally be happy with. I...

It's time for the first free-write on the side, a side-write! What is it? I'm still figuring that out as I go! But this month, I realized it could be neat to go over the other ideas I'd developed for what our upcoming alien creature friend could have been. I developed one a lot early on, then when I held the supporter vote for what kind of critter it should be, I had to do a lot of brainstorming before I landed on something I liked!
But rambling about a bunch of discarded ideas didn't ...

Still getting the hang of timing these journals out. I hit another rough patch not long after the last one, had a lot of self-doubts, a lot of anxiety about designing my next big project.
