February Sketch Poll: Shipping!

You know, working with this slanted layout I created when I first started has proven to be a pain in the butt even in the best of times, but trying to fit two characters into each frame was torture!

Anyway, time to decide which of these lovely couples you want to see get all cute and mushy. Voting ends Feb 3rd!

Sonic #Release_The_Original_Design Button

So as most of you have probably already seen on my Facebook page, I recently upgraded to a bigger button maker. The larger size has been wonderful, allowing me to do more detailed art and actually legible text! This new design, inspired by the totally legit and not at all dumb #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, took full advantage of that. I have to say, this is one of my favorite things I've done lately. It's just so... terrible!

Garfield vs Shaggy

Would you believe this was inspired by one of the suggestions for my shipping/Valentines Day sketch poll? Someone jokingly said Garfield x Scooby Doo, and that reminded me of two memes from last year- "I'm Sorry Jon" Garfield and God Shaggy. And, so... this happened. I started off just meaning to do a quick sketch, but it kept getting bigger and bigger. I don't know if I should be proud or ashamed! lol

Darkness

Of the three main Konosuba girls, I feel like Darkness gets the least love from the fans, and I really don't quite get why. Between her design and her... special interest, she seems almost like the poster girl for "fan service". Then again, maybe that in itself is why. Maybe the attempt to appeal to fans is too direct and drives folks away. In any case, she's probably my favorite; not just for the fan service-y aspect, but also I think she's just genuinely cool in her own right. Despite her u...

Darkness (Secret Stash version)

Okay, I still stand by my statement that there's more to Darkness than just fan service, but... damn, that's still some nice fan service. lol

Norse Sketch Commissions

A couple commissions I did recently. The first request was for a Norse inspired bonsai Tree of Life with a DNA strand in it's roots.  With a prompt as awesome as that, I couldn't help but go all out! Very satisfied with how it turned out, and honestly a little jealous that I can't use the logo myself! XD The second request was for Oden's 8-legged horse Sleipnir. If you're not up to date on your Norse mythology, I highly recommend you look this one up. I guarantee you'll never look at Mar...

February Sketch Suggestions

It's almost February, and that means Valentine's Day will soon be upon us. What better way to celebrate the occasion than with that most beloved, non-controversial of fan activities: Shipping! That's right! It's the time honored tradition of picking out two characters that may or may not share more than three seconds of screen time together, declaring them to be destined for each other, and then online harassing the infidels stupid enough to suggest that these characters migh...

February Sketch Suggestions (Secret Stash)

So, did you see what the theme is for the regular poll? Well, guess what, it's the same for the Secret Stash poll this month as well! Yes, Shipping! I'm still looking for your favorite couples of pop culture, but this time we'll be seeing them in one of their more intimate encounters. Post your suggestions in the comments below, voting begins on the first!

Oops! All WALUIGI!

If you thought I'd forgotten about my mock video game covers, then I regret to inform you that I'm back on my bullshit again! lol

Yeah, despite not being great sellers so far, I'm still convinced that there's an audience for these just waiting to be found. Not to mention the fact that I just like making 'em, so here we are! This one was inspired by the continued exclusion of Waluigi from Super Smash Bros. The fans have been begging for him for a while now, so I thought I'd finally give ...

How much should I charge for prints?

So I picked up my first set of mini-prints today and I think they turned out great! Now I'm starting to think about how much to sell them for and I wanted to get your guys' input.

Currently, I sell my full-size 11x17 prints for $10 (with a 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' deal) so initially I thought to make these mini-prints $5 each. But I've also been giving a bit of thought to raising my prices a bit, ma...

January Poll Winner: Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan )

Not much to say about this one. To tell the truth, I haven't read a lot of Kamala Khan. Mostly clips and previews online and a few bits of her crossing over with other characters like Squirrel Girl. She seems like a lot of fun, though, so I'd really like to get to her eventually.

On a more personal note, I think this drawing has finally convinced me to try selling mini-prints at cons. For my full size 11x17 prints, I usually try to make a whole scene out of it, something that tells a st...

January Secret Stash Winner: Sorayama Robo-Girl

"Yeah, I had that issue of Heavy Metal, too." - Dr. Venture.

This month's Secret Stash winner was inspired by the robot girl created by Hajime Sorayama, most famous for appearing on the November 1980 cover of Heavy Metal magazine. To that end, I tried creating my own cover, which turned out to be a lot of fun. It's always quite interesting to me the effect things like logos and titles have on art. It hard for me to put into words, but it somehow makes it feel "real" to me to go from a s...

Rose Tico (Color Version)

A color version of my Rose sketch from the other day.

I'm probably going to try to watch tRoS again tomorrow. Enough people I know and respect have enjoyed it that I feel like giving it another shot. I doubt I'll ever like it, per se, but if I can bring myself to not flat out hate it, I'll consider it a win.

Rose still deserved better, though.

January Poll Winners

Another interesting month for the sketch polls! I thought I had a good idea of who was going to win both, but I was wrong in both cases.  Kamala Khan  squeaked out ahead in the fan poll beating out a three-way tie for second, and the Secret Stash poll ended up in another tie, so I once again rolled dice for a winner and Sorayama Robo-Girl a la "Heavy Metal" claimed the W.

Bonus Bonus: Do You Want To Play Again? (Stash Version)

Yeah, as I said in the post with the other version of this drawing, this concept started out as an idea for Chun-Li's Secret Stash sketch and, well, I've said it before, digital drawing makes is fairly easy to do alternate costumes (or no costumes at all), so how could I say no? lol

So, yeah, you've heard of strip poker, but I think strip video games just might be the wave of the future!

Secret Stash Bonus: Baroness' Toy Collection

So a funny thing happened with this month's sketch polls. GI Joe won the regular poll, and Chun-Li won the Secret Stash poll. Fine, awesome. But then I was inspired. See, out of the blue, I got ideas for a regular Chun-Li sketch and a Secret Stash-y GI Joe drawing that I just couldn't resist, and so: bonus sketches! Yay!

Considering the theme that led to GI Joe was "Toygenic", I thought it would be appropriate to show off Baroness' own toy collection!

Welcome New Members + Sketch Suggestions

First, I just wanted to welcome the new members that signed up today! Thank you so much for your support! It really means a lot. I also wanted to remind everyone that I'm still taking ideas for the January sketch poll. The theme is Legacy Characters, so basically anyone that inherited their identity or powers from someone else. (Like Miles Morales as Spider-Man or  Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle.) You've got until tomorrow night to get those ideas in, and then voting will start on the 1st! View Post

Dec. Poll Winner: GI Joe

I must confess, GI Joe is one of the big 80's properties that I just never got that into. I think I might be ever so slightly too young for it, like maybe I would have gotten into it more if I was even a year or two older; but as is, I simply missed the boat. That being the case, I wasn't sure how this would turn out when GI Joe won this month's poll. Nevertheless, the stars seemed to have aligned just right, and I ended up having a great time working on this. (Mostly. There were some... issu...

Dec. Secret Stash Poll Winner: Chun-Li

My relationship with fighting games in general is a bit weird. I am absolutely terrible at them, lacking the dexterity and hand-eye coordination to pull off even the most basic of moves, but I still tend to love them because I usually find their character designs and lore fascinating. Street Fighter is probably the best example of this. I actually didn't play that much SF as a kid (I was more of a Mortal Kombat fan), but I enjoy drawing it's characters immensely, and Chun-Li is one of my favo...

January Sketch Suggestions

Hey, everybody. Hope you're all having some happy holidays. Now that ol' Saint Nick has completed his yearly ritual of widespread B&E and making out with our moms underneath the mistletoe, it's time to start looking forward to the next big milestone: New Year. And this one is going to be extra special, as it not only ushers in a new year, but a new decade. (And miss me with that pedantic "the decade doesn't start until 2021" bullshit! It's going to be the 20's, damn it!) So, seeing as we'...

January Sketch Suggestions (Secret Stash)

So, here in about a week, the year is going to be 2020. Despite it's imminence, that just sounds so futuristic and sci-fi to me. So, in that spirit, I thought it would be fun to make the theme for this month's Stash poll : Robo-Girls! Beautiful 'bot babes! Dirty droid divas! Their bodies may be made of steel but their hearts are made of gold! ... lol, okay, so I may be rambling a bit here to fill space, but what else is there to say? Tell me your favorite robot girls and we'l...

Seduced By The Dark Side...

So this image is something of a culmination of various factors all converging at once. First, and most obvious, the new Star Wars movie is coming out. I'm writing this in advanced, but when this post, I should be about half way through my first viewing, and despite some rocky reviews, I'm still pretty excited. Second, I had a few technical difficulties with the GI Joe print I'm working on this month. I don't really want to get into details at the moment, but for reasons bey...

Kona Guardian's #2 finally has a script

Well, after waaay too long, I finally have something I feel confident in calling a proper first draft for Kona Guardians issue 2. I'm working on a second draft right now, but with the first one finally nailed down and this mostly being a quick polish to make it readable, I'm hoping to have something to send out to my editors sometime next week. It truly is a Christmas miracle!
