Maractus and Corsola swap

I’m really happy to have started and finished an art in one evening, I haven’t done that in such a long time and I miss the total focus I used to have. But yeah, this was just supposed to be a warm up like “ohh what if” then I really liked how it was turning until I decided to fully render it. I almost gave Corsola its legs but I thought Maractus’ lack of legs looked way cuter that way.

Shiny Rockruff X Summer

It’s been a while since I painted I think. I tried using this rougher brush more here, reminds me of an old fave brush of mine in SAI. Also more hatching but in ipad, I tend to not do it anymore since using the eyedropper has been a drag, having to long press unlike procreate but since I bought the little game controller called 8BitDo and putting my own shortcuts in it, painting has been easier again.

Species swap part 8

For Sora. I got to pick the species swap for this one and the inspiration came from going into this youtube rabbit hole of catching and cooking wild hunts. A part of my childhood was fishing for frogs out in the rice fields and have them fried for dinner so I was intrigued that apparently iguanas are a problem in Florida that some people catch and eat them. Rambling aside, I just thought the iguana’s frills(?) would look dope with red tips since some iguanas have a more orange shade to them...

For Masamunemaniac. I made the ears a lot for furry to imitate the long hair of a human and while sure, I could’ve just drawn hair normally, it’s just my personal preferences to not just stick a hair like that on furry characters. It’s kinda why I really dig Lola bunny’s design, she has a blonde hair tuff like any male furry character would but the ears are fashioned into ponytails, pretty smart.

For MysteriousKaos. Keita as Impmon. Impmon has no fur to him if I’m right so no tuff but I think he looks the part as an Impmon!

For Trozte. Had to use fur for this one since the hair and around the neck were important. I initially tried thicker scales but really just looks better with fur overall. Had a fun idea adding the pink accents on the scale tips though instead on coloring the entire tail as pink.

Chrom and Chrobin WIP

For Arito. I like the color palette and how new and pleasing to see the popping colors on a kobold, something I google and mostly are of an earthy tone to them. I don’t play DnD and from what I observed, their design can be rather flexible, just that they have to be reptilian on 2 legs.

Species swap part 1

For Steven K. From a cat to a dragon/reptile/kobold. I particularly liked the darker scales as freckles and the pink accents. I thought they fit the eastern kind of dragon.

Redesign part 15

For masamunemaniac. I leaned for the magical girl/witch redesign. Had some heart and start stuff going on. Like the mask intended to be in replacement for the hearts in the og design. The tie (?) I just flipped so it looks like a shooting star falling down. Really like the soft colors in the og so those didn’t change much, probably just the shade and pattern placement.

With this redesign challenge done, we’re on to the next one!

Redesign part 14

For Lamrado. This is likely the redesign with the most revisions because the first few attempts only had a drastic change with the hair. Basically I just want to free it up a bit to pop the horns, ears, and head shape. Then I had some inspiration from Houndoom, just adding some whites here and there. The wings, to make it different, I made it a part of the arm.

I have one more redesign to go! Then on to the next set of challenge.

I have 2 redesigns left to do for the past challenge (for Lambrado and masamunemaniac) but let’s just decide for the next one. Please note that I can only do non-humans/human-like enough for the first two choices since they are fusions and pokemon and my OCs are more monster/creature than not.

Redesign part 13

For TucciFruit. Oh lordy I wonder what video game character from a studio called something like “misbehaving canine” I based this redesign from? That aside, I think my biggest struggle with this was trying to find decent shades of dark brown, light brown, red, black, and gray worked well in grayscale. If you have a layer above everything else, fill it with black and set the layer in “Color” (atleast in CSP), you can check for your color values.

Redesign part 12

For Darkhourglass. Real quick before I head to bed, yeah I’m not feeling good today. It’s like I’m sick or something. But anyway!! This redesign was inspired by Nala, Korra’s polar bear dog. Mainly because Beorc sounds like a bear name too. So yeah, I tried my best for a head that’s a cross between a bear and a wolf, but more bear since their top mass is bigger and it’d make more sense with the also bigger front legs and paws. Maybe now it can be a decent climber?

Redesign part 11

For Robert. Pretty smoky. IIRC, this was supposed to be a Lucario and Typhlosion mix. Anyway, the combo and the white “hair” gave me an idea to make it smoke and the fur all over the body spiking up like Typhlosion’s flames. The base of the ears are hidden from the smoke. The spike on the chest was initially there but given all the spikes already and the angle, it didn’t look like it fit anymore.

BTW, I only need to shade one last commission and I’ll be done with this batch, I’ll start the ones on the waitlist second week of July or as soon as I finish 2 zine deadlines.

Commissioned by Kit/WhiteOutKit of their Ivysaur, Hemlock. I had to change the legs on the lower left because well, it was similar to the one on the right, just flipped. IDK, after so many times I’ve drawn bulbasaur shapes, these things become muscle memory. Also lucky me, I spotted that I also had to flip the leaf to cover the right eye.

Redesign part 10

For Kit. I did this redesign with first impressions in mind and what I immediately thought of was bookworm and half plush shark. I think it’s an actual living flesh and blood shark the more I look at it but because of the stitches, the plush thing was what I thought. Or is it? I don’t know but that’s exactly what I’m going for by really making it look like a plush as well as changing the teeth because it’s cartoony that way.
