Using ConstructVR for GearVR

Hey everyone! While I am still not done with the Alpha (my Rift died in the middle of testing and I just found that there's a missing indicator for the session download) I decided to uses ConstructVR for the time before this actually goes up in the Oculus store. So, for everyone using a GearVR, there's a new download link. I'll update mindmeltingmachine.wordpress.com in the next few hours with it...

Custom Sessions work now!

Yesterday, late at night I finally did it.  This took me sooo long, but it works now. One can create, load and save sessions in the Session Creator and also send a file over to a running MMM on the same network. There it will be saved in the local session library and can be started just f...

Hardware issues

Sometimes life is a dick. I had virtually no time on my weekend to work on MMM and on Monday my home server machine (which runs several important things like an email server) greets me with a system warning telling me that the hard disk seems to have problems and a total failure might happen very soon. So I'm doing backups of everything right now while setting up a recent laptop to become the new machine. I was going to do the transition to that laptop in a few months anyway, so at least I have ...

News for July

I attended an official Unity conference last week. I had some free time in the hotel to think about MMM, its recent progress, how to improve development and how to keep my supporters and fans updated.

In the last few wees and months I had many moments where I feel like I let you down. I post not often enough and development isn't going as smooth as I hoped. I still have to finish and deliver the first version of the session creator tool. And I haven't updated the project plan screenshot for wh...

End of May status update

Hello my dear supporters! I hope you are well.

Just a short update with two main things I want to let you know of:

First up: New hardware!

I recently got myself a Google Pixel and a Daydream View. I like the controller but I do get a bit sick using the headset. I'm not sure what it is, but something with it seems to be slightly off. I can use it for a while and the sick feeling doesn't get too bad, but sooner I later I feel like I've had enough and I take longer to adjust to ...

Mind Melting Machine, TechTest3 - Public!

The last few weeks were some of the busiest I had in my whole professional life. I haven't had a free day since before Easter. I worked each and every day including weekends for clients. And I guess I have just one or two weeks like that ahead of me as well. But today I can cut a few hours from work and I use them to bring you the public version of MMM. I'll bugfix this for you for a while while I also work on finalizing the Alpha of the full version. I'll post an update about my ...

Easter Status Update

I hope you are having a great time! So, how are things with MMM?

Session Creator

Bad news and good news. Bad news first, I had to throw out a lot of code. So far I have used a Unity plugin called NoesisGUI to do more traditional UIs with Unity. I paid for this plugin a few years ago, back then it was the only solution to do good and complex UIs in Unity which allow for databinding. Databinding is when you have a mechanism that binds a variable in your code to an UI e...

Your turn, beta supporters

Hello dear patrons! At last it is time for beta supporters to get their hands (and minds) on Techtest3. It's the first version that contains all versions before it. It starts with the hub where you can select the first two tech tests as well as session1. It also features a fourth item, but see for yourself. I look forward to your feedback, your thoughts about the interface, your overall experience and yes, any problems you might actually run into.

I'm currently working on a ...

Hello Patreons, supporters, fans and those who just stumbled over this,

The further I come in development the more I wonder how I should go about releasing this. I startet a discussion on reddit, maybe you have some great ideas for me?

TechTest3 just around the corner for Alpha supporters

I'm almost ready with TechTest3.As you know this is the last Techtest before work on the SessionCreator goes into full throttle. As this release contains a hub scene which lets you access the previous releases (to demonstrate the session library) I had to fix a few things so that those run again. As it turned out these were more than a "few" things. For example I updated the GUI code and old menus wouldn't run anymore.

Anyways, now I got to test again on Cardboard, GearVR and Oculus as well as...

First working version if the session info screen. Later iterations will probably have a few settings for looping or other things. I'll give this to my alpha supporters at the end of the month. In March I will focus on the SessionCreator.

#MindMeltingMonday 2017-02-13

I'm in the middle of implementing the Session Library. GUI is being remade, that why the gui style is rather basic.

This along with the rest of the features for TechTest3 should be done before the end of the month, alpha supporters will get their hands on this in about 2 weeks.

While alpha supporters help me find any bugs and to work out any other problems I will focus work on the SessionCreator. The survey clearly showed how important it is for you to create your own sessions and like a...

#MindMeltingMonday 2017-02-06

As I haven't got anything ele to show, here's a golden spiral.

I have worked today on the task "basic dropbox support" and it didn't work as expected. After running into several walls I decided to change plans and work on a local network connection between the Player and the SessionCreator. Sessions can then be downloaded from a locally running SessionCreator, which will have to have a library feature. It should also make things a bit more convenient for users, they no longer need a Dropbox ac...

I made a survey

I will no longer spam my new Patrons with a catalog of questions. I may even have forgotten to do that with a few. Now there's a survey I made in Google Forms. This gives you a better interface and improved options andit gives me a much easier way to see who wished for what and what people want. Of course the survey will be continuously improved. Make sure you answer the first question when you are a Patron as I will also make the survey available elsewhere.

And please, always feel free to com...

#MindMeltingMonday

I hereby introduce #MindMeltingMonday, the hashtag for posting updates to your hypnosis projects. It's like #ScreenshotSaturday, but for hypno stuff instead of game development.

I'll be posting screenshot or other visual updates about this project on mondays, here and elsewhere on social media.

I'm currently on working on the hub scene, where the user starts. Here he can choose or add a session and then enter it. I also added two rubbery / latexy drones. Not sure what purpose they w...

Project planning for next version - Techtest 3

Hello my dear supporters,

These are two screenshots showing my planned work for Techtest3. This version will have a lot of new stuff.

Techtest 3 will be the first version that will contain and start with a Hub scene. The user will be in a nice virtual place and can use it to select existiong sessions or load new one (through dropbox support). Session1 "Ready for mindless trance" will be included as well as another test session. This test session will have the planned format of what the S...

iOS versions will get their update via hockey tomorrow.

First Session File for Beta supporters!

Feedback from the Alpha supporters ($10+) was good so far. Now it is your turn to get your hands on my first session called "Ready for Mindless Trance!".

Please try it out and give me feedback. If you experience problems let me know!

Controls: In Oculus Rift and GearVR any button press will reposition the spiral directly in front of you. On Cardboard VR (and 2D versions) the spiral will always be in front of you.

First Session File, plans for 2017 and a question.

Hello Supporters and Fans. Today I release my first session file to those with alpha access. I know it hasn't all the features I wanted it to have and it is far from perfect. But I also know that I cannot take forever on this, no matter how little free time I may have. If everything goes smoothly I might release my first session to the public by the end of the next week. All my VR equipment is packed away by now as I will be moving next week.

MMM will be one of my main priority projects ...

As this is a kind of a snapshot and no release I'll make it available to everyone in about 24 hours.

What? It`s middle of November already? When did that happen?

Hello Supporters and Fans. I'm not happy with my slow progress. The last weeks were filed with more work and renovating, definitely more than expected.

But the good news is that I'm still active and working on MMM. I'm shifting priorities a bit. MMM still misses a lot before it can successfully load a session as I'll have to do many UI stuff in VR as well as a hub scene that allows the user to load a session and where he finds himself when the session is over.

Because of that...

Working on hypnosis script for demo

I've been real busy lately. My wife and I bought a house and we are there on a daily basis, working hard to make things perfect to move in later this year. Soon enough most work will be done by professional people, so I should be able to work more on this again. I highly prefer working in this instead of making my body hurt from all the physical work I had to do lately.

Anyway, that's not what this post is about.

The session creator comes along slowly I also worked on a script for ...

Update: Work on next Milestone

After having a really busy time I have now started working on the next milestone. It will be the very first version of the session creation tool accompanied by the MMM player that will be able to read and play sessions. The features will still be rather basic, you'll be able to add text and an audio file, load and save session files and that's it. The player will get a "hub" scene, where a file can be chosen and started. Also I want to include a simple session file on my own.

Technical Test v2 - Public Version

Hey everyone! Had some very busy days and wasn't able to work on MMM at all. Now I'm back and got around on building the project on iOS at last. If you want it you just need to join the project on HockeyApp to download it on your device. See the links at the bottom for that.

If you have a GearVR please download "SideloadVR DeviceID" from Google Play and send me your device ID (Either here or on the platform you learned about this project or send me a DM on twitter). I can then build you a vers...

MMM - TechTest 2 for Patrons

Hello Patrons,

Alpha Patrons did not report any problems, so now you can check  TechTest 2 of MMM out.

Main feature is the menu that you can activate with any input (mouse click, controller buttons, screen touch, cardboard magnet, etc.). In VR you "press" buttons by gazing, in 2D you use the touch screen or mouse to click button as normal.

The menu options:
- Resume: closes the menu so you can stop doing that pesky thinking.
- Lock Spiral: The hypnotic effects...

Time to be more professional

Hey everyone. I finally started managing the project in a tool. A friend of mine suggested I use hacknPlan which is coined for indie game development. It still seems to fit my bill very much. I tried other tools but for now this is the best one for me and this project.

So I started adding tasks and future releases. Please remember that nothing is final here and I the date for Techtest 2 is the latest date I want to give it out. I hope to finish it earlier but there's a lot going on right now.&...
