Just a heads up that we are developing a series on the history of Carthage before the Punic Wars. It will be a first of its kind exploration of this mysterious civilization.

After re-watching the opening of the movie Gladiator I decided to make a documentary assessing the accuracy of the artillery barrage portrayed in the battle. In this documentary video we go through the evolution of ancient artillery and its history of adoption by the Roman army. Finally we look at the types of artillery available in ancient arsenals and how they were used in battle.

In this documentary we turn our eye to another WTF moment in history when a bear was actually enlisted in the Polish army and served in WW2! I love these small details in history and actually ended finding out about more service animals which included dogs, cats, roosters, and even a duck.

In out latest video we take a quick diversionary break in to the more wacky aspects of history by flipping through the marginalia of Medieval manuscripts. This reveals a whole world of crazy illustrations of knights fighting snails. We then cover the main hypotheses for why these existed.

In this documentary we examine the critical moments when Caesar's veteran legions rose up against him in the middle of the Civil War and marched on Rome. The way in which Caesar handled the crisis is extremely revealing of his ability as a great commander who held a unique bond with his men.

Here is a preview image and a script excerpt for our upcoming episode on the mutiny of the 10th legion!
Legio X Equestris
Caesar had begun his first military campaigns in 61 BC whilst serving as Propraetor in charge of Hispania Ulterior. Here he would fight the Lusitani tribes with existing Roman forces and his own newly raised 10th legion. The 10th would prove its worth in this combat and was later re-deployed, along with the 7th, 8th, and 9th legions, for the pl...

Based on our recent poll here it seems that your most requested topics included:

We also ran a parallel poll on YouTube which showed a strong desire for Law & Order. Since this selection overlapped between both polls we will be pursuing it as our first "How They Did It" season of the year. For the next season I will be doing things sequentially where your poll comes fi...

In this video I recap where we have been this past year and what comes next. One of the big things I want to do is to increase the amount of video we make and also switch to a season type model where we develop content in batches based on "themes". This will allow me to better plan ahead and get some economies of scale when it comes to production. I'll be running several community polls here and on YouTube to get your feedback on what we should explore. Stay tuned!

Wooohooo! We just released a pretty unique episode that looks at ancient warfare from the ground eye view by following the stories of individual soldiers and officers in the Roman army during the Gallic Wars. This of course leads us to covering the story of Pullo and Vorenus. Hang tight for the digital art package for Patrons.

A new documentary where we dive back into the daily life of ancient Rome by looking at the history of haircuts and hairstyles. Loved this topic and the little parallels to modern life which it exposes. According to one record, when a sassy barber asked his customer “What can I do for you today your majesty”, the client replied, “silence would be nice”. I think this literally every time I go and was so happy to have found this hidden gem in the ancient texts.
