The Urge

Even when you try to shoot your best possible combination for a given location, light, muse, vibe, genre with the available gear, the urge to reach out to the sliders, when you see your photographs on the large computer screen, is for real. ( brighten it a bit, denoise, vignette, mask, heal blah blah) It is an instinct which is from the conditioning to put out your best photographs out for the world to see. And editing is what transforms a good image to a great photograph. And that we must do...

Some quick shoots during the week

Sometimes work winds up early to allow me an hour or two of shooting. Plans are short and usually with someone with whom something has been discussed earlier or some one new. We met really late in the night and the room had not much light. But then when you want to make photographs, there are no excuses. The whole night got better as we discovered new ideas to light up the place, These are just from the first hour :)

I started weirdly. The day i decided to shoot people about 5 years ago, was also the day I decided i needed lights for it. So  went to amazon and bought myself a five bulb light fixture which took led bulbs. I quickly realised my stupidity and immediately graduated to an Elinchrome System RX200 i think which came in pairs. So I would carry them and lightstands and backdrops and what not in a large cricket bag with wheels. I shot almost always with lights, never with natural light for fir...

A lot of my shoots are really long with more than one muse, whom i shoot individually and sometimes together. The idea is to give them some breathing and thinking space when they are not shooting

This one was one of them, i was shooting 1 for the first time. We were to shoot indoors on day 1 and outdoors on day 2. This was day 2 just before we headed out, we saw some brilliant light and also i switched from a wide angle to a 85mm on my full frame.

No Boundaries

Many of my muses are also very good photographers themselves. Most discovered the beauty of their own bodies, outside the confines of the conditioned society norms. A camera is truly a medium which throws you so many surprises, And many self portraits artists dabble with this medium and genre, before adventuring to work with other creators.

This is Faiza, during her visit to India, we shot over a weekend, and we called it No Boundaries. Photograph of a Photographer !
