Here we are at about the 40% mark on the piece! We've got about 12 more coffees to go on this one before it's time to post it!
The layers here are all transparent washes over the drawing. Mostly multiply and color dodge at this point with a little screen on top. Still shooting to have the finished piece done for tomorrow but it is going to be close...

Here is the tight drawing for this month's classic fantasy illustration. (Those of you who were at Illuxcon may recognize it!) I'm making good progress on the final and am hoping to have it finished for a Muddycolors post on Tuesday.
Some of you may point out, 'hey didn't you just start this thing?' And well yes I did, and I have been staying up til 3 and drinking 6 cups of coffee for a few days here. (This isn't the first time a Muddycolors post has been the catalyst for me goi...

For this month's Classic Fantasy Illustration I am taking a short break from my usual standard fantasy tropes to tackle a scene from one of my favorite works of fiction, Herman Melville's Moby Dick.
To the last, I grapple with thee;
From Hell's heart, I stab at thee;
For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee.
I hope you will bear with me during this slight departure, I p...

November's monster is the Hog-Boggle!. A large and feral denizen of deep swamplands. While large and friendly, they are most well known for their incredible stench and poisonous drool. Coming soon....

First off, Welcome to all the new subs! Glad to have you here! It was great to meet so many of you last week at Illuxcon. It was a killer show and I really appreciate all the support and feedback and just hanging out with you all. It was an amazing time. (And if you weren't there, you should consider going next year!)

Hey guys! Just sharing some high res scans of a little painting I did for #Inktober that will be going up soon on my Instagram!
I painted this in watercolor using the Rackham-Dulac manner. I plan to add painting and drawing tutorials here on Patreon in 2019 and when I do, this handy little method of painting will be one of the first demos. It's fun and very simple, and can make any ink look classic.
The images below are the ink and a scan of the painting with only the ...

Monster of the Month for October 2018!
For the brushes I created, I ended up using Jagged Chalk for the wings, and werebat fur for much of the fur and cloth. I also used the mixer brush at the end to make some of the blending between light and shadow areas feel more natural.

Here are the brushes I will be using to paint the Werebat! Also included is the high-res clean drawing if you'd like to see it in more detail or colorize your own version. As the month goes on I may add more items (even more brushes) depending on wether or not I end up creating anything new while working on the monster. So keep an eye on the folder.
Also, this is the first month we are doing this through Dropbox. If you have any problems with the link or with downloading, please let me k...
