Nothing too exciting for this post this week. Mostly just trying to get back up to steam. Clean up my files and notes.
The GIF up top is a small test of using Path2Ds to move around segmented creatures. Each millipede in that image is made of up multiple sprites. Each sprite follows a pre-drawn path. It actually looks better as the sprites get smaller which is a pleasant surprise.
Additionally, I have drawn ...

And here's the researcher tier build with the patches. Additionally, this updates the debugger to account for the new methods in updated state manager.
Also duplicated from my other post:
Also, for MacOS users you'll have to open the command line where you have Chitinous Carnival extracted and bypass Gatekeeper by running:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Chitinous\ Carnival.app
However, I am not 100%...

Just want to make a quick post saying that I am aware of the issue in this new build. I'll be working on fix them over the next few days. I should have most of them fixed by tomorrow. I apologize for the oversights. I'll be sure to respond to the messages I have received after getting some much needed sleep.

Here's the build for you folks. Let me know if any issues pop up. Also, I changed how I packaged the mac build slightly. However, if you are having any trouble running it, please let me know. Additionally, be sure to include what MacOS version you are using and what, if any, message appears when you run it.

Well, I'm exhausted. Had to fix a lot of little bugs that popped up as I prepared to export the project. I also had to added a lot of art and writing I completely overlooked while stuck in S a v e S y s t e m H e l l. Anyways, here's a quick change log (footnotes are in square brackets):
- Added birthing scene for Bag-o-Bug (BoB) Prize Encounter [1]
- Added birthing scene for Fun House Millipede (FHM)
- Added images for FHM and BoB i...

I'm going to push back the next update to Thursday the 30th because the save system has been kicking my ass and has put me off schedule. Saving the game turned out to be a lot more work than just "store everything into a JSON file". I have definitely learned a painful lesson that saving should be designed from the very beginning.

Last week consisted of a plethora of back-end work. It turns out that saving a game is hard. But, I have completed a hopefully functional save system. However, there remains a lot of testing to do. But, from my own experiments it seems to be working (aside from some visual glitches with setting the text). Additionally, I still need to style the layout so it fits the look of the game.

It looks like Garrett's co-worker is also interesting in the little creatures. Tho, she definitely needed some help coaxing them to come out.
A quick bit of line art I did for an idea spurred on by my friend and animator Rookie. It is additionally a continuation of my musk ant concept.

You know, I feel like I'm running out of good ways to open these. But anyways, it Sunday it time for another devblog.
This week has been the start of me integrating everything I've been drawing and writing into the game. I've started this work by tackling the inventory screen. I currently have the windowing system for viewing x-rays implemented. Additionally, I've drawn the progression sprites for each of the parasite I have currently. Each one has 8 different states for a total of 24 i...

This post will be updated with access links for my projects as my catalogue continues to grow.
Research Tier (should) be able to use these links to access game keys:
Also, have some more musk-ant art that I finished up last Saturday. I decided to use this as an excuse to do some coloring and shading work. This time featuring the not-quite-full-time retail worker Garrett. Stuck in a small disconnected suburb, there's really only one way to pass the time on break.

Yo yo, I've been a busy beaver working on art and even doing a bit of coding.
Most of last weeks work went towards putting together the new infestation event. A test of all the sprites I've made can be seen in the first GIF. The parasite's current name is the Milliball, since you first encounter it as the "Weird Ball" item.
I am still working on the gameplay aspect. My current plan is to present you the choice of either p...

This week I've managed to wrap up the last of the parasite birthing segments I have planned out for the 0.3.0 update. Additionally, I've included the main-looping segment with this post. This was a surprisingly hard angle to draw. There is zero good references to use. Also, I shared with you my musk-ant idea.
Next week I am going to work on a new parasite interaction for the remaining carnival prize. This int...

Yo yo, here's a quick image I did to get back into drawing full-body characters. I had actually finished this Wednesday, but I couldn't decide how I wanted to handle posting it. But, anyways here it is. It features an idea for a creature I call the "musk-ant". Additionally, I've written a short excerpt about them in the attached PDF.
Let me know what you think about them in the comments.

This post is going to be split into a few parts, it's a long one.
The Too Long, Didn't Read
I've been re-writing Chitinous Carnival's scripting system because it was unstable and inflexible. I am going to pick September 25th as the release day of CC v0.3.0. I am going to focus on drawing next week.

This post is only exciting if you are interested in the technical bits of my work. The obvious big thing was showing off Night Crawlers in the previous devlog. So, for the most part, this post is a way to get back in alignment with the weekly schedule. However, for me I made a massive technical achievement Friday: I finally figured out a bugle shader that reliably merges multiple bumps:

Uh, whoops.
I had meant for this to be a small test of a scene in Chitinous Carnival, but I had let the scope creep. Alot. I ended up fiddling with graphical effects and rope physics and particle systems. I learned an incredible amount from doing this. Additionally, I've found solutions to multiple animation complexity issues such as deformations, fluid effects, and dynamic randomized bulge animations. However, it was far more work than I should have taken on for...

I guess these are going to be a weekly thing? Feels handy to summarize last week and talk about next week. Tho, not every week will be as equally interesting.
Anyways, last week I mainly did some creative work outside of Chitinous Carnival. Look forward to seeing more on that this month.
As for this week (and the rest of this month), my plan is to refocus on the next update for CC. There are more scenes to draw, animate, write, and code. Additionally, I've prepared some assets for...

Yo yo, I've been working on art for new scenes, new backgrounds, and a new side character. His name is going to be Aaron. While I don't have plans for an elaborate web of characters, I do need a few for lore, setting, and/or narrative needs.
Additionally, I've put together a small animation test which you all get an early peek at. Although I have more things drawn and written, I don't want to show all my cards too early.
Addendum:
Apparently, the way Patreon shows gifs gets bl...
