Finally, with trust established, she felt comfortable shooting some implied topless shots with me. Alone with her in her tiny little Old Hollywood apartment, we had our first real deep conversations then, and she confessed secrets about herself, her health, and her habits that I have since triend to help and engage with her more on. Though she looks mature, she now is still only 22, with many more mountains to climb.

She never likes her stomach, and for some reason it never gets as toned as she wants, even when working out a lot. Always wanting the women I work with to feel comfortable, I quickly learned this about her and shot around it or covered it up as best I could, and she ended up loving everything we shot together. I think this was the start of building a foundation of mutual trust and respect that we have kept going through today.

My favorite set-up from that day was this blue bodysuit I had brought. It fit her as though it had been made for her, and she enjoyed how she looked in it as well.

Then she told me that she once was using her accent in a bar and met a guy she really liked. She spent the night with him, keeping the accent on the whole time. Realizing how much she liked him, she knew she'd have to keep the accent up, afraid the lie would be too big to sustain the new relationship. They ended up dating for a month or more, and the whole time she never let the accent drop, nor did her doubt it for a moment. Now that's talent!

Next she tried on this halter top, which she of course also looked great in. But this was also was around the time I asked her to stop talking in the British accent.

Next we came back inside and had her change outfits. She looked astounding in this tight, sleeveless shirt, and this was about the time she began using her acting talents to show me how well she could speak in a British accent.

We briefly went up on the rooftop in that same outfit, but the amount of attention we were receiving from the denizens below made us leave rather quickly.

After shooting in front of her building outside, we came back up the stairs into her place, where her messy roommate was just leaving. We pieced together an outfit out of a bodysuit I had brought and a lacy shawl she had in her closet. Once again, she looked like a goddess.

I had woken up around 6 a.m. in order to get to Hollywood by our 10 a.m. shoot time, sitting and waiting outside her apartment, since she wasn't even home yet. She had spent the night with her on-again-off-again boyfriend, and simply had gotten distracted with time.

We had a lot of fun that afternoon, and I think more importantly we had a great period of bonding that I hoped we could keep up for a long time. We managed to shoot a few more times after this, but after a month or so, we never managed to get our schedules to line up and she eventually faded into the ether of the real life. I haven't seen her since, though I heard she had a child several years ago, maybe even two.

As mentioned during her test shoot post, Rae had some frustrating and badly placed tattoos, the most recent of which was the word "Freedom" on her right breast. She told me the story, which I simply can't remember anymore, something about an ex-boyfriend or a controlling family member, and how she had finally extricated herself from them. That's great and all, I'm always glad for people getting out of bad or unhealthy situations, but don't tattoo your perfect 20 year old breasts about it! :)

Despite the obvious virtues of this image, the aspect I like most is the sloping hill that coincides with the angle of her arm, all of which fits perfectly in the composition, if I do say so myself. I'm usually not a fan of cropping so close to the head, especially in-camera, but this image is exactly how I shot it, which feels pretty good five years later.

Feeling comfortable and trusting me, Rae said she could handle doing some topless shots. This suggestion of hers filled me with emotion, like a cross between the joy of winning the lottery and the nervous excitement of first finding your dad's Playboy magazine stash as a kid.
