Supergirl Air™! The friendliest way to travel. 😊
Had a comment last week about how I go from my digital pencils to inks. I print them out verrry light on the media paper I use and ink over those. This way, I avoid graphite mudding up my watercolors and ink getting smudged from having to erase pencils when I'm done. So it's both more efficient and results in a cleaner illustration. Win win! Anyhoo, remembered to snap a pic of that before-inked linework th...

Happy Sunday! Hope your weekend has been STUFFED with good things. â¤ï¸
Also please imagine an entire carnival behind Kara & Babs. I only have so much time to work on these. And paper space.

I warned y'all at the beginning that these pieces might enter Looney Tunes territory. Looks like twenty-seven days was as long as I could hold out! It also caps off my recent trilogy of "Kara Effortlessly Avoiding Various Villains Who Seem Bent On Attacking Her For Some Reason."
Anyhoo, dunno how many will chuckle at this one but it made me laugh. And even though we are well into the afternoon hours now, makes for a good Saturday Morning Cartoon vibe for today.

Guess my comment about there not being many cameos this month has proven false. Characters are just popping up all over the woodwork lately! Also, kudos to Kara knowing immediately how to use a professional-grade camera. Although I sincerely doubt the photo she took is even remotely in focus.
Feverishly trying to meet my page quota for this week so--like Jimmy was likely doing here before our two SBBFs came along--back to work. Hope y'all have a picturesque weekend!

Hey there, Scarecrow! Sorry, but I'm afraid your tactics don't work quite as well during Halloweentime. At least for those with a super sweet tooth.
We're down to the final week of these if you can believe it! There was a point in the middle of the month when I actually did have some fear I'd be able to get all of these done. Now that I've reached this threshold, it feels much less daunting. Not to mention, I'm overall pretty happy with what the ones I've got...

Thought I'd sneak one more Harley/Ivy one of these into the month. Didn't feel right to leave things where I left them after that whole bomb incident. Although Harley hasn't quite made her way through this jungle over to Ivy yet so I suppose anything can still happen!

Happy TimeLapse Tuesday, my friends!
I had a request last week to share the timelapse pencils for GRUNGY, the 16th prompt from this past month. I'm showing the full non-speeded-up version so you can see all the little struggles and decisions I made. The video is about seven-minutes long so if you end up watching it all, I once again recommend some music. Both this song and 2024-10-22 16:23:02 +0000 UTC

Looks like they all became friends after that package delivery mishap. Happy to include her again. And who knows? Maybe I'll find reasons to draw her s'more!

Hi, The Rhino! (I mean, how could I not?)
Pleased as punch with how this one turned out. Not the least of which was my decision to watercolor the details on that Marvel safari map with a size 6 brush and not messing it up.

Dunno if I've mentioned this before but any colored lines you see in these pieces is painted with watercolor. I don't use colored pens or pencils or anything else lik...

Hi Donna! About time you finally showed up. Lets' see if we can't get you in at last one more of these before the end of the month.
So this one took a while (which is kinda silly on my part since it includes such a dumb joke), mostly because I changed my mind as to who Babs and Kara were going to encounter on Themyscira. My original idea was pretty much exactly what I ended up with in the final above. But a few minutes into drawing a bunch of Amazon warriors I decided it was going to ta...

Hi Selina!
Happy with how this one turned out. And for like, the most basic of prompts. Haha.
Also felt like a better one to post in the evening rather than earlier this afternoon. We also had a full super moon last night! So pretty fitting. A "Hunter Moon" apparently. So additionally somewhat fitting I suppose.

I always thought it'd be fun that if Babs ever got her own Batmobile, it'd be like one of those cute little Fiat cars from Lupin the 3rd. Super compact, probably breaks down a lot but with the top able to slide out for, you know, superhero stuff. Other than that, just a totally ordinary first car any teenager would love to deck out in their style.
A totally decked out car that Kara wouldn't be able to re...

Man, Inktober. "Journal" prompt two days after "Guidebook"? I might rethink using the official prompts next year if this keeps up. But I'm making it work! And look! Even got a tiny cameo in this one. :)
I think this might be the first world bubble to show up this month (aside from some question and exclamation marks). Still no dialog though! Finding creative ways around that can sometimes be part of the fun. Have I mentioned that I'm having fun with these?
Anyhoo, here's a close-u...

You know what's harder to draw than anything else in the world? Motorcycles! They sure are fun though. One could almost say they make you feel more alive!
Threw a little Weezer reference into this one btw. Not sure how many will get it. I'm old. 😅
Halfway through these! Can't believe it's the middle of the month already.

I thought it'd be nice to return to TimeLapse Tuesday today by sharing the digital pencil work for one of this month's SuperBatobers.* Decided I'd start with the very first one of these, BACKPACK.
Instead of sharing a quick one-minute sped up version, however, I thought I'd share the full lapse to really hit home the struggles and indecisiveness I had with this one. It's about eight-minutes long so maybe put on a song or two if you decide to watch the full thing.

A bit of homework for Supergirl, which is totally what I should be giving my two boys right now. They're still off school due a lack of fuel and some flooding in our area; the screaming sounds of "high-stakes" video game playing echoing up the stairway and into my studio.
Anyhoo, snapped a detail of Kara's stack of required reading.
I need to catch up. I've only read a couple of these!

Can we ignore the fact that despite no atmosphere on the moon, Kara and Streaky's capes are still billowing from some nonexistent wind? Just like there was for "SUN", there remains nothing scientific this month for our two SBFFs!
Got to break out my drawing gum again for this one, which, for those of you who weren't here last year, is this stuff:

It allows me to not have to use any white...

For the record, I want everyone to know that Babs took out that robot all on her own. Kara and Streaky just saw their friend finishing up and came over for a nice sit.
Pretty happy with the way this one turned out. With 31 consecutive pieces this month, I realize they can't all be winners. But if there's at least five to seven of them I can look back at and still be proud of, that to me is a job well done.

Hi all! I'm back! SAFE and sound. Just got power and cellular back a few hours ago.
I've lived half my life in or near Tampa, and Milton was definitely the hardest (and scarier) of all the hurricanes I've now lost count of that have almost hit us--this one just grazing south of us yet again. I took this screenshot from my satellite app about an hour and a half after it made landfall. The blue dot is where we are in Land O Lakes.

Happy middle of the week, my friends! Still firmly planted here in extra rainy Florida.
I mentioned before SuperBatober started that I might try to turn a few of the pieces into wallpapers. The Star Trek mash-up one seemed pretty popular so I thought it'd make a good one to test out. As before, here are the screen resolutions I formatted it to:
That's not how clouds work, Kara!
While Supergirl has been nonsensically getting away from it all (good for her), I've been working tirelessly to make sure I get as much work done (these watercolors, Moonlit colors) before the very likely scenario of losing power this week. Not to mention making sure my family--including my wife's way too large collection of outdoor plants--will be cozied up and safe indoors. Half my day yesterday was hurricane prep.
Regardless, still planning on ...

Did you know rooftop hiking is an actual thing? In Stockholm, you can experience the city at average building height with a guided rooftop hiking tour. And I'm sure that's not the only place you can do so. Batgirl here however doesn't need such silly safety precautions such as helmets and carabiners because she's a fearless crimefighter!

I'll be honest, you probably aren't going to see as many cameos this month as there were last year (although I suppose you never know) because drawing these quickly between comic work means mostly defaulting to Kara and Babs antics. But I couldn't pass up a chance to introduce Kara to my favorite mutant. Not to mention Streaky to one of my favorite dragons.
Managed to snap a few extra process pics of this one. Also sharing my initial scribble before realizing Kara needed t...

Where no SBFFs have gone before!
Or maybe they have. I haven't read every BG/SG story out there after all. Doesn't change the fact that, while maybe not the most creative use of the prompt, this was still fun to draw. Originally I was going to give them classic Trek outfits but decided Next Generation suited them better.
Although Kara as a Vulcan makes about as much sense as a pillow full of rocks.

And that's where I'm ending things! I know a few of you might be a touch disappointed I'm not continuing this storyline all month long, but I think a little five-part sequence is still a fun way to kick things off. Small possibility I might do another little sequence if the mood strikes later on.
On a side note, I really like the idea that Ivy can call on some giant carnivorous plant at the snap of her fingers whenever she wants. Like it's just following her around off page all the time...

Okay, I decided to keep this silly sequence running a little bit longer. It'll be over real quick though. I don't think there's that much more ticking left on that bomb. Watch it still hasn't exploded after 31 days. HAHAHAHA (I won't do that to you).
Some process commentary: Originally had Ivy a tad more flesh colored before deciding to add the slightest amount of yellow/green to her skin. Initially, I was like, "Oh no! I ruined her!" But now that the colors ...

Somedays you CAN get rid of a bomb!
Thought about developing some sort of narrative with these but decided to kick that idea to the curb. Don't feel like locking myself into something. Hopefully that's not disappointing. Might be fun to do next year though.
Other than that, not sure what else to say about this one. I'm happy with Kara's left hand. :)
