Working on the book has been really tiring but also rewarding as well this past month - I've definitely had the chance to do a lot more reflection and thinking as I was writing! As a bonus, I'm also still able to revisit lots of older works to give them a re-debut in the book.
As the project moves along, hopefully I'll be able to share more snippets here and there to give everyone a better idea of what exactly the book is and what value you can get from it. As a reminder, the campaign...

Annoucement: The date for Book 2's Kickstarter launch has been fixed for October 10!
It has been really hectic getting all the writing done and edited for the best effect. There's so many things I want to write about, but I also want to leave as much space as I can for the art as well. It also turns out I'm really not a natural writer - I get really sleepy after writing for a bit (the opposite when it comes to drawing), so it has been a challenging time. However, rest assured that I wi...

Another remastered piece ready :) (more of minor touch-ups in this specific case)
I just want to say thank you to everyone who had suggested something for the book. Many of them were really great suggestions, some of which really prompted me to start planning some edits immediately!
Writing, editing, and the rest of the process will still take up quite a bit of time, so as you may expect, there is a little bit of drought for new works. I don't want to rush it for the sake of it so I...

Feel free to let me know below what kind of things you are looking forward to seeing in the artbook - For example, more story based writing, more art in general, behinds the scene time management, anything at all.
Full disclaimer that I do have a fleshed out plan in mind for the book myself, but I would definitely love to hear your inputs on it and try to fit in what I can!

The next episode of the Character Illustration mega tutorial is up. These are really getting longer as I'm trying hard to keep everything real time while covering enough ground.
I hope you find it helpful, and do feel free to let me know of any feedback or questions! -
As always, thank you so much for the support!

Another remastered set for your enjoyment! The first piece was especially hard to adjust and correct - Perspective is really not an easy thing to deal with when we have to apply it broadly to a character, a little bit off and even if you get things physically 100% correct, it can still look weird.
For example, big heads, or gigantic feet are common "weird illusion" that sometimes even can be seen in full body photo portraits.
I'm still working full time on the book itself, b...

As always, here is the full-res of the remastered work I posted today!
To share a bit more information with you guys: The book will contain (hopefully, as we're still in the editing process) about 150+ artworks, from which many are remastered like this above piece so it will be a new viewing experience for even long-time viewers :)
In other words, there will virtually be no older pieces that look the same as the last time you saw it!

Thank you for all your guesses on the last post!
I've been working on this second book quite a lot in the recent months, which is why you may have noticed that new works are being uploaded less frequently.
I'm really happy to be able to announce this, and it's thanks to all your support here that I'm able to survive long enough for a second book!
The title and cover are still TBD, but I will be working with 3dtotal again for this book as well. We're also sett...

Something big is just on the horizon and I've really been a busy spree trying to prepare all the materials for it! (Can you guess what's coming soon?) I'll definitely let everyone here know first once I can announce it!
In the meantime, the mega tutorial is progressing very well on the recording end - to compensate a little for the lower volume of new works, I'll try my best to see if we can do a double episode this month.
As always, thank you so much for your support here, it ...

A pretty worthwhile rework of an older piece! The second image is the previous version. I felt the original lacked a little something in the form of atmosphere, the scene felt a little too clean and transparent almost.
I added a bunch of extra detail, some atmosphere effects with the steam and smoke and adjusted the characters a little! Hope you like this result :)
All these reworks recently are something that I've been doing to build up for a project. Hopefully I will be able ...

Part one of the mega tutorial is up! I finally got it together to try and do a full live- commentated drawing, downside is of course, we can only do a bit at a time.
Nonetheless, I hope you will find this format more helpful when it comes to the nitty-gritty stuff that gets left out.
Of course free free to ask questions you have in between videos as well!
Thank you very much for your support as always, it really means a lot.

This month's process steps are up! I'm still having a bit of cough, so apologies for the times it showed up during the video. There was quite a bit to talk about this time, so the length is a bit longer as well - I hope you find it helpful :)
The tutorial video will be up in 2 to 3 days time as well, so please do keep a lookout!
Thank you for your immense support as always.

Whew, what a tough set! I actually started off wanting to do some more individual pieces this month, but ended up doing another set of 4. I think there's really something about having more than 1 image that helps a lot in telling more story.
Of course, having to keep the lighting consistent throughout is an added challenge, but overall it does seem worth the effort.
The tutorial and process walkthrough for this month are in progress and will be uploaded in the coming week!...

One of the piece I repainted recently - I liked the composition so I thought it would be a waste to not fix some mistakes I could see! Scenes with this sort of wide lens angle is always tough for me, proportions get warped by perspective and it becomes a real battle of what looks "right" versus what it "should" look like. Definitely still some room for improvement to go, but I think it looks a tad bit better.
New pieces are still in the oven, but things are shaping up well and I ...

This was a fun piece to draw - moody lighting, grungy setting all check the boxes, but really reminded me why I (personally) tend to love drawing side/ three quarter view so much.
Small errors when it comes to symmetry, especially without perspective to act as a shield, are really obvious and take time to iron out. The "balance" of the character also takes a bit to finally get right. Hope you like the final result though, more to come this month for this character :)
Thank ...

Hi everyone, how are you doing? July started in a great way with the exhibition, which will be almost over (In about 21 hours from time of posting this, or 7/7 5PM JST)! I wanted to share more along the way, but tried to keep my activity in front of the computer to a minimum, so the updates were mainly on IG and twitter. The support has been really great and everyone visiting enjoyed their time very much - for that I'm immensely grateful. If you've visited the exhibition, please feel fr...

The Pixiv event just concluded and I was able to take a look at all the submissions, quite a few of which I assume was from you guys! It's a great effort by everyone but because of time constraints we weren't able to go through or give advice for many of them.
I figured (and gotten permission) that it would be a good idea to keep this tutorial video archived and available here for Patrons only. For Patrons who didn't participate, this video is just another regular tutorial! For those w...

This month was definitely a challenging one when it came to drawing the [Lake] set - you can hear me talk more about all the difficulties in this latest process breakdown! [You can download the breakdown images as well]
Let me know what you think of this format, do you prefer the more free form talking? It seems I've repeated the basics so many times that it adds more value to talk more flexibly and context based on every different image.
Thank you as always for your support!

Finally I managed to complete this set - at this point in time its been so long since the actual lake scene that I thought it best to end it here!
This month has been a pretty tough one in terms of schedule, but I will definitely still be putting up the process walkthrough in the next couple of days as always.
This also means that finally I can get back to drawing some other subject matters that I like!
Thank you so much for your support as always.

Another rework, this time a pretty substantial one! Compared to the earlier version, quite a lot has been updated.
Rearranging and separating out the different lighting areas and value groups has really helped to make things visually less cluttered and muddy, while accent colors populate the dark areas to keep things visually dense enough.
Overall I think this was definitely worth revisiting!

As I've mentioned recently in the update post, I've been repainting and remastering a lot of older works for an upcoming project -
This piece is one of those that really motivated me to start doing this. I just thought the composition and gesture in general was really nice, so it felt like a big waste to not properly finish it. In terms of actual changes, I mostly focused on the finish touches - I recall this was a really hard piece to put together at the time, so I sort of got tired a...

Hello everyone, just a little update since things have been a bit quiet lately!
I've been working on remastering almost every single drawing I did since the first book in 2020 - and there was a surprising amount of insight gained, looking back in this sort of comprehensive manner. (150+drawings!) I'll definitely have more to share on that in due time :)
While I'm working on that, I will still be drawing this month's [Lake] set, which should be concluding real soon, so please do l...

This month's tutorial video is a little different - Finally the long requested brushes are here! :) I put together a collection of my most used brushes (download from attachments below) with a video to explain them and how/why I use them.

The action continues! This set was quite a refresher for myself on drawing dynamic scenes, definitely getting a bit rusty here (also probably why it took so long). I hope you enjoy it as much as I struggled to draw it :)
Edit: I also just realized there is a continuity error in frame 2 as her gloves disappeared, but just for this one I let it slide. It was really hard to otherwise balance the gesture since a gloved hand would be less visible/weighty. Definitely need to plan better next...

The process steps video for this month's pieces is up! I'm trying something a bit new - focusing more on piece-specific ideas/information rather than give a more repetitive and same-y description of sketch, values, etc (there should already be plenty of those!)
