Updoots and Announcements!

Thank you everyone for your patience! I didn't want to talk about it too early because nothing was final, but part of my apparent slacking off this past week has been due to outside factors. Said factors mainly being the Skyclad audiobook!

Podium Publishing will be doing the audiobook for Skyclad, Skybound, and the remaining books in the main "Fate's Anvil" series. I looked into trying to have it made myself, but it turned out to just be too big of a task(and too expensive) for me to ha...

Skybound - Chapter 12: Gatecrashing and Other Recreational Activities

Jacob Ward could feel the inertia of every horse he led in the charge. He felt every hoofbeat, every impact of lance against shield or flesh or wooden timbers as their shared and combined mass simply smashed through everything in their path. He was the point, the tip of the spear, and he knew instinctively they were only as strong as he could bear to hold onto the power contained within the charge. The Black Lance had built up so much inertia on the way down the bank of ...

New Updoots for a New Year!

I wanted to present yall with a new years chapter along with updoots, but family randomness intervened and relatives extended their visits to avoid traffic and weather on some rather long drives home. Work on the next chapter continues, but the main thing I wanted to let everyone know is about the hardcover edition of Skyclad.

Amazon didn't have an option I could find for self-publishing a hardcover, but Barnes & Noble does. Also, I made a few mistakes during the process of publishi...

Updoots!

I hope everyone enjoys the chapter! It took a lot out of me, and i put a lot into it. It's been part of the story plan for so long, it was one of the pivot points i felt driven to reach and i hope i did it justice. it's not done either, the next one picks right up where thundersnow left off!

anyway, on to the new news. Skyclad is now available on Amazon, of course, but if you don't have a kindle, or don't want ...

Skybound - Chapter 11: Thundersnow

Claire Descroix eyed the banners in the distance, barely swaying over the dark and shadowy forms of the mounted troops cresting the rise. It should not have been possible for the northlands to march a relief force so quickly, but the truth was before her eyes. For all that it was surprising, to her it was not truly unexpected. One did not achieve her rank without merit, no matter the status of birth, and so she had directed her sappers to mine the bridge. As the new arrivals cres...

Skybound - Chapter 10: Hoofbeats

Belka Torm pulled his furs closer around himself to ward off the chill. He couldn’t be sure what time of day it was with the dark clouds all around and the snow kicked up by the horses obscuring the sun so completely. The column marched through an eerie twilight realm of powder and fog and shadows. Only the beat of the drums and the cadence of hoofbeats held back the unnatural blizzard that had surrounded them for days. The General led them onwards, unhesitant and sure thanks t...

Updoots and Status Sheet:)

sorry about the delays! i meant to have the chapter out before thanksgiving, but family shenannigans interrupted all my plans. i did enjoy spending time with my nieces and nephews, and getting my butt kicked in super smash bros and mario kart. seriously, are all 8 year olds as good at mario kart as my niece or is she an anomaly? or am i just getting old and slow?

so, this last chapter was a leetle bit longer than i originally intended, i hope yall don't mind an extra thousand or so word...

Skybound - Chapter 9: Divergent Trajectory

Morgan Mackenzie sat on the side of a partially constructed airship, ankles crossed with her feet dangling over the edge as she skimmed through her status menus and considered her choices. All around her the sounds of construction continued unceasing, a cacophony of background noise that would not have been out of place in her old life. A saw powered by magic still made the same buzzing rasp as it cut into timber that any saw on Earth would have made, and the hum of enchantments ...

Skybound - Chapter 8: Intangible Experience

Morgan Mackenzie was looking at her previously crafted geometrically perfect spheres, slightly embarrassed that she had missed something so obvious about magic. If she were totally honest with herself, that embarrassment was more than just slightly, but she refused to show it. The realization that it was completely understandable for her to have gaps in her magical knowledge did little to salve the emotion. She had known her enchantments were different from Moghren’s. ...

Updoots!(also: lets talk status sheets!)

the work continues! had some hurdles i was not anticipating pop up on the road to publication, but i think we got that sorted out. so expect an announcement on that front SOON. the current chapter continues as well, and one of the things that's making it more complicated is that it is time to update morgan's status sheet! this chapter will have a level up scene and morgan learning about skills from veterans like terisa and kojeg, and i'll be sharing her updated sheet once it's all worked out....

Skybound - Chapter 7: Kitten-Kaboodle

Morgan Mackenzie was relaxing in a pool of water so hot it was nearly boiling, and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Lulu purbled with contentment, scrubbily scrubbing her scalp and hair while producing an amount of sudsy bubbles any sane person would have considered obscene or which a toddler may have declared almost enough. Terisa lounged in the water several paces away, the resistances given by higher levels not quite enough for her to be totally comfortable at the ...

UPDOOTS! (and ebook news!)

It took longer than I expected, and i made several extremely atrocious conversion attempts to make my own ebook before I swallowed my pride and asked for help, but we have a complete ebook for Skyclad!

ONWARDS TO PUBLICATION!

that's the next step, you heard it right. and like promised, all patrons get the electronic copy for free, right here, right now! I did the upload thingy in the text post, and i've never done that before. if it doesn't work through patreon, let me know and i'...

Skybound - Chapter 6: Embered Words

Stev Aras fired a magically modified heavy crossbow through the arrowslit, the enchanted bolt punching right through the first shield raised by the enemy spellcasters. The second shield only slowed the projectile, but then the enemy commander raised her hand. The air around her fist rippled as the bolt slowed to a halt, suspended in a sphere of wind magic, before the lack of motion tripped the second enchantment etched into the projectile’s tip. What should have been a messy ex...

Work on the chapter continues! I must admit I've been in a funk the past two weeks. I can't explain it, and certainly can't excuse it. It's been a struggle simply to get out of bed, and i've spent a lot of hours staring at my screen with my mind blanked out. You guys deserve better than that, and I'm workin on it!

It's not all bad news and gloom though. I finished paying the final installment to the professional editor, and i'm trying to convert the finished, edited and revised document...

Skybound - Chapter 5: Roadside Respite

Millie Thatcher slumped against the side of the wagon, sagging with relief. Dismounting with only one arm was difficult enough under ideal circumstances -- and with her body feeling leaden and sluggish from her exertion, her current circumstances were far from ideal. The day was only half done, she knew, and, doubtless, the Black Lance would shortly resume its tireless march after only the briefest respite to water horses and let the soldiers see to their own needs. Millie’s he...

Skybound - Chapter 4: Siege

Stev Aras stood over a table upon which had been placed a faded but intricately detailed map of Fort Expedition and the surrounding terrain. Locations of Deskren siege equipment, encampments, catapults and trebuchets were marked with flattened metallic chips. The city had felt little burden in the first days, well supplied and well defended by the warding towers, but every day more supplies and troops and materials arrived for the Deskren, barges trickling up the river. At the sa...

Skybound - Chapter 3: Dead Sands

Kavnerrin Descroix climbed down from his carriage, waving away a liveried footman who rushed forward to assist. He glanced around, passed a hand through his hair, then began crossing the field. This was the last place he really wanted to be; ever since his misadventure with his sister and the Dreamer’s machine, fear and worry had been his constant companions. He could have risked nothing more involved than to order her soulless husk to throw itself from the arched footbridge in...

Skybound - Chapter 2: Mother's Nature

Once again, Morgan found herself running; this time, she was following the shadowed outline of a man that faded in and out of her vision with every step. Dana kept pace, though she wasn’t doing anything close to what Morgan could consider ‘running.’  Shortly after they set off, Dana had reconfigured the legs of her suit between one step and the next, her armor shifting so rapidly Morgan almost couldn’t see two legs transform into two wheels. She’d leapt forward, ke...

The Ogre’s Tale, Chapter 3

Max looked over the tiny battlefield, confused. There wasn’t a single dead body out there. Instead of a stack of stripped corpses, there was… nothing. Well not nothing. The earth was slightly disturbed, but there wasn’t a single dead body out there.

Max turned to Shyia. “Can you tell me what happened here?”

Shyia shrugged. “Something took the dead. Not a monster, or it would have come after us as...

Updoots and a question!

Hey guys! I've been severely under the weather the past week, and haven't been sitting up much. when i have, i've been working more on finishing up getting Skyclad touched up with the editor, and that's ALMOST done. Sometime this week we'll have that wrapped up and ready to get started on actual publication!

Here's where the question comes in. I can publish it in print sooner if i leave the cover as it is now on royal road. OR! i can take the extra time to commission a brand new cover. ...

Skybound - Chapter 1: If You Build It

Morgan Mackenzie was having a fairly good day, by her own reckoning. Several good days, in fact. There were people in her valley! It had been bothering her more than she could admit to herself, being alone in the wilderness. She still felt awkward around so many strangers, although she was constantly --and pleasantly-- surprised by how little of an issue her lack of clothing had been. The beastkin weren’t phased in the slightest, themselves only wearing what material they neede...

The Ogre’s Tale, Chapter 2

What the fuck?! Max windmilled for a second, before wrapping himself around the duffle bag and struggling to right himself so that the bag hit first.

He struck slender branches, slowing his fall. The lighter branches gave way to thicker ones that didn’t give way.

Max grunted in pain as the second impact broke a rib, and cried out when the next impact broke his shin. When the final impact cam...

Skybound - Prologue: Children of the First Beast

Adrin Holt crouched before a low campfire, chewing a chunk of meat skewered on a slender stick with several mushrooms and a strange Anfealt plant stuck halfway between an onion and a clove of garlic. The strips of gaurox meat were quite tasty, in no small part because he had led the hunt himself for the first time. The giant creatures resembled oxen on steroids, with extra horns and bone spurs sprouting from shoulder and spine. Foul of temper and far smarter than any type of cows...

In which we meet Maxwell Mackenzie.

Maxwell Mackenzie sat in Dina’s Diner, glaring at his cell phone, accompanied only by a cooling cup of coffee.  Morgan was late. Morgan was never late. Family Sunday breakfast at Judy’s had been a tradition for all of Morgan’s life, and barring a few times when Morgan’s mother, Marianne, was in chemotherapy, the entire Mackenzie family had never missed this.  View Post
