Demigod Class Ascension Chapter 9: Demonic Dungeon: Hell's Pit
Added 2025-04-14 01:28:02 +0000 UTC-----
John was surprised when he heard Will talking about going to that hellish place. Even though they might be able to save the kidnapped kids, he didn’t even know if they were alive right now to make it worth the risk.
“Y-You’re mad! That place was literally in flames and filled with those things…!” the old cop said. “Do you seriously want to go there?! It’ll be suicide!”
“Well, I’m confident in my strength,” Will said. “I have Water and Ice Magic too; it should help me out against the flames. We’re here hunting for monsters and gathering points to survive and get stronger—that’s our main goal. There’s a Safe Zone at the Elderbridge Mall. If you want to rest, you should go there.”
“Is he serious?” he asked the rest of Will’s team, and they didn’t seem to find anything weird with Will’s words. At this point, he had already gotten them used to his reckless decisions, mostly because he had the strength to back them up.
“We’re going as well; we need to grow stronger,” Vivian said.
“I hate it too, don’t get me wrong, but this is the only freaking way we can survive,” Evelyn said.
“Also, if we don’t slay three hundred monsters by the end of the week, this entire territory will get taken over by the Goblins,” Ralph said.
“Wait, you saw that message on the red walls as well?!” John asked. “So that’s… that’s what it means?”
“We’re not exactly sure what could happen to us… but we doubt it’ll be anything nice,” Vivian said.
“We’ll most likely become that faction’s slaves, or we’ll get slaughtered. Either of the two aren’t good outcomes, hence why we hunt,” Will said.
He had asked Cube earlier what could happen to them, and Cube had told him that there were two options: either the faction, once it fully arrives to take over this piece of land, kills them instantly to harvest their EXP and bodies as Materials, or they get enslaved, becoming that faction’s Warrior Slaves, forced to hunt other humans while being treated like expendable goods.
Therefore, the only way for them to survive was by killing 300 monsters as quickly as they could before the week ended, and they had to hurry. This huge dungeon with those Imp creatures was ideal—the more there were, the better.
“I see…” the policeman nodded, sighing as he stood up, looking at his gun and then readjusting his police hat. “Then I’m going with you.”
“Wait, what? Aren’t you tired?” Ralph asked. “You should go to the Mall, sir! We’ll see if those kids are alive, and if they are, we’ll bring them back. You don’t have to worry.”
“I’m grateful for your consideration, son, but I can’t just let you do it all on your own. I’m a policeman first before a citizen. I swore to the nation that I would fight to protect you… and in this apocalypse, I’ve failed you all…” John sighed with grief, gripping his fists. “This is the least I could do… I’m an Awakened as well. I’ve got a Class and Skills… I know very well that’s the only thing that can truly stop those monsters, so let me come with you… That child needs protection, after all.”
“Huh?” Maria noticed that John looked at her fondly. It seemed that for him, seeing a child alive and healthy in this situation was incredible, and he wanted to do everything in his power to protect her.
“I see… Well then, it seems you’re decent enough. You’re in,” Will nodded. “What’s your Class? Are you an Archer?”
“Archer? No, my class is Gunner,” explained the cop. “It appeared when I first shot one of those green fiends in the head when they were tearing a poor old lady to shreds yesterday… My bullets ran out long ago, but thanks to this weird magic, I can create new ones.”
“Gunner… that’s a Unique Class, isn’t it?” Evelyn asked. “Like Will and Maria’s Classes.”
“Unique Class?” John asked. “Wait, was I supposed to get something else?”
“Yeah, most people are given a choice between Warrior, Magician, Healer, Rogue, and Archer,” explained Ralph. “But sometimes, due to circumstances we can’t understand that well, people are given a Unique Class that depends on their specialty or some sort of inner talent… Maria, why did you get that Druid Class, though?”
“Huh? Hmm, I like eating the berries Mama grows in her garden,” she said. “And… I like helping her plant new plants and flowers…”
“I see… so something as mundane as that can become a reason to unlock a Unique Class,” Vivian nodded. “I guess we were pretty damn normal in comparison? Damn it.”
“So the cop was given a Gunner Class because he carried a gun with him? Isn’t that cheating, though?” Evelyn asked, slightly bothered.
“Hahaha, well, I guess I ended up being luckier than I thought…!” John laughed. “Whatever the case, we should hurry if you’re really planning on rescuing those young’uns…”
“I’m not, but if we happen to see them on our way there, I guess you can rescue them if you want to,” Will shrugged. “Can you guide us there?”
“Sure thing, follow me,” the policeman said, nodding.
The group walked across various abandoned, ruined streets. Some cars were still burning, and there were a couple of collapsed buildings as well. Remains of Will’s fight against the Arachneia Queen could be seen from afar.
Until finally, they felt the heat starting to get more and more intense, and the air was becoming heavier, making it difficult to breathe.
“Is that the place?” Vivian asked.
The group stopped walking, glancing at what was in front of them—a massive hole leading underground. The pavement was constantly burning, and strange, red-colored crystals, ablaze, surrounded the hole.
The entire surroundings seemed… distorted, as if the ground had been warped into a hellish inferno. Ashes and the smell of burning rocks spread everywhere, but it never truly got that far, as they only started smelling it up close.
“Here we are… Looks like we were able to make it here safely,” said John. “Damned place, looks like a fucking pit to hell… Are you sure you want to do this?”
“We’ll have to inspect the entrance first…” Will walked forward, noticing a new notification appear, which everyone could see, floating above the pit.
[You have found a Special Event.]

[Dungeon Difficulty: Tier 3+]
[Dungeon Rewards: Tutorial Points, Random Loot.]
“Interesting…” Will said. “Hey, Cube, what does it mean by Random Loot?”
“There’ll be a small chance for any monster you slay inside the Dungeon to drop an Item. This can range from simple things such as good rations or drinkable water to more important things such as equipment pieces, weapons, accessories, and other materials,” Cube explained.
“Sounds really good,” Will smiled lightly. “Seems like, although it’s hot, there aren’t any flames inside the pit… or perhaps not too many? We might find more as we go deeper.”
Will looked down into Hell’s Pit, quickly preparing to descend by jumping down. The jump alone was almost over ten meters, but to him, that wasn’t much at all. He could easily survive falling from a hundred-story building by now.
“Looks like the interior is safe to enter,” he said. “But… just in case.”
He quickly conjured Water Magic once more through Ocean Hand, dividing several bubbles of water toward every member of his group and covering them with it as if it were strange armor.
Then, with some more Mana, he used this spell as some sort of “temporary effect”—an enchantment—without even needing to know what that was.
The enchantment remained over everyone’s equipment in particular, attaching itself to it through blue runes that glowed.
“Wow, you could do something like this?” Evelyn asked. “This is pretty great…”
“It’s just an enchantment for now,” Will said. “And a novice-level one at that. It might pop midway through our journey, so I’ll simply conjure it again. I got plenty of Mana after I ate all that Chimera jerky.”
Through eating so much monster meat, Will had begun to realize he could “stockpile” Mana inside his body, surpassing by far the actual limit that his body naturally produced before stopping.
Through this, by eating a lot of Chimera Jerky, he was able to easily store a nice amount of Mana ahead of time, making his reserves over four times the original Mana Pool he usually had.
His body was simply that powerful and capable, as if it were a massive vessel that could barely fill a tenth of itself naturally, while the rest remained mostly empty.
This was perhaps also the reason he could go on for days without sleeping as long as he ate enough food and nutrients, using these nutrients and calories as a replacement for energy regained from sleeping and resting, as if he were a living battery.
“Okay, I guess we’re really going. Let’s be cautious,” Vivian nodded. “Maria, you stay with me, okay? Don’t get in Will’s way either, alright? Also, there.”
Vivian extended one of her many Mana Hands, wrapping it around Maria’s belly so she wouldn’t be able to run off elsewhere or something.
“Okay!” Maria nodded. “Um, I want to fight too, not only watch…”
“You can take this, then,” Will gave her one of the Goblin Beast Tamer’s spears, which was lightweight enough for the girl to carry. “Use it to stab anything that gets close to you… It’s also made of wood. Try to somehow use your Druid power with the wood; maybe it can give you an edge in battle.”
“Oooh! Right! Thank you, Mister!” Maria said happily. “Uh?”
Will also gave her a branch full of red leaves from the strange trees that appear only at night. It seemed to contain a lot of corrupted Magic power inside and could be used as a wand.
“I was unable to make a wand for you yet, but this should suffice. It’s technically still alive too, so maybe that could help you as well.”
“T-Thanks… it looks spooky.”
“It is, so don’t play around with it.”
Will walked forward after that, making Vivian smile at him very warmly. She was really happy with how Will was so nice and gentle with the girl, despite how he denied any accusations of being kind to her.
“Will, thank you for giving her all of that.”
“It’s for our own safety if she can fight back. Let’s keep moving; we can’t waste time.”
The group quickly climbed down the hole, although Will just jumped down and landed on his legs without issues, glaring in front of him to find a tunnel going deeper into the earth, past the underground train station too.
The caves were faintly illuminated by glowing red crystals covered in flames, which also made the atmosphere rather hard to breathe, but not too unbearable for those who were already Awakened.
“Hmm?”
John suddenly stopped walking, kneeling to grab something he found on the floor—a small plushie of a white kitten mascot.
“What is it?” Will asked.
“It’s one of the plushies one of the girls was carrying with her. They must have gone through here, then,” John said. “I hope… I hope they’re alive, or at least one of them.”
“Let’s hurry, then,” Ralph said. “Will, lead the way. We’ll follow.”
“Alright,” Will nodded.
This time, he didn’t ask Cube to scan for him. Instead, he closed his eyes and fully concentrated on his own Mana, expanding it through his surroundings as if he had echolocation, but with Mana.
The Mana Senses, enhanced by his own Sense Stats, expanded further and further, easily getting through solid walls, helping him rapidly assess his surroundings and create a complete map inside his head.
“Hm, I see how it is,” Will nodded. “There are several paths. Looks like these Imps love to dig underground. Some of them lead to open areas, others to dead ends… There are so far… four paths that lead to large open areas. I believe there might be concentrations of Imps there, and other monsters, perhaps.”
“Can you feel where we could find the kids?” John asked.
“I can’t…” Will said.
Not even Cube could detect things so precisely, so Will decided to advance in order, going to the first open area and then the second, third, and fourth respectively.
As they moved to the first open area, they heard groans, seeing small shadows approaching from the other side.
“They’re coming!” Ralph said.
“How many are they?” Evelyn asked.
“Does it matter? We’ll take care of them,” Vivian said.
As the creatures appeared from the other side, they looked alerted. They were a group of roughly six Imps, screaming. Most of them ran toward the uninvited guests, while one remained behind and then ran away, probably to alert the rest that there were invaders.
“Here they come,” Will said, gathering cold water mixed with ice shards in his hand and then splashing it at the Imps as they rushed forward with their blazing weapons.
SPLASH!
As they screamed in pain over the cold water extinguishing their body’s high heat and fell to the ground, the group charged in. John kicked their heads and then shot another in between their eyes, while Maria used her spear to stab another while awkwardly trying to look elsewhere.
“Gryaarr!”
The Imp pushed her spear away, breaking it, and then charged at her with its blazing weapon, which regained its magic, demonic flames rather quickly.
Vivian quickly grabbed the Imp with her Magic Hands and then conjured another Spiritual Hand made of bright light, combining its fingers into a sharp, spear-like blade, piercing the Imp’s neck with it.
As the Imp groaned while bleeding out, Maria hit its head with the Magic Branch that was given to her. It suddenly reacted, its crimson leaves absorbing the Imp’s blood and making the wand grow larger.
“Huh?”
As Maria was confused about that, she suddenly felt her Druid powers react to the branch, as if she could control it through her mind… somehow, as if she were shaping plasticine with her hands.
“Oh!”
She was amazed as the branch suddenly changed forms, growing several pointy spikes, piercing the Imp’s head and killing it quickly before it could suffer a slow death.
The branches trembled, constantly draining the Imp of all its blood, leaving a dried-out corpse behind. Maria was a little surprised.
“Oh wow, you’re sure hungry, Mister Branch!”
A little eye popped up from the branches, glaring at Maria in silence and then around, only to close once more as if nothing had happened.
“Weird…”
Vivian saw the entire thing, growing a bit worried, but she knew there wasn’t much time for them to think about these arbitrary things.
“Fucking die already!”
Evelyn screamed, firing three arrows, missing one by accident as she panicked again, but managing to kill two Imps on her own.
Ralph went for another Imp, crushing their head with his steel wand and his increased Strength Stat, while taking hits as a secondary tank beside Will, which he healed himself from using his magic.
In just a minute, they were done with the frenetic fight. Imps were much more resilient than goblins. As they were Tier 2, they were like slightly weaker Goblins with Classes, but without specific powers aside from having flame-based abilities and weapons.
According to Cube, Will learned they were a type of Lesser Demon.

“Alright, we’re getting there. Let’s keep moving,” Will said.
“Wait, Will, I found something,” Evelyn suddenly called for him. “I think one of the Imps dropped this.”
“Hm?” Will looked at what Evelyn had in her hands. It resembled a small, rusty coin with a horned face imprinted on it and strange, unintelligible letters. “A coin?”
He quickly analyzed the item with the System’s built-in appraising abilities.
[Rusty Devil Coin (F Grade)]
A coin imbued with demonic energy often used as currency in the Domains of Hell, where Demons live and thrive.
It can be saved to be exchanged for goods from a Demon Merchant, who might appear inside Demon-type Dungeons.
Or you can imbue it with Mana and make it explode into demonic flames, dealing 120% Demon-type and Fire-type Magic Damage around a small range of three meters.
“Looks to be some sort of currency that can also be used as a magic bomb… Keep it. You should use it only when necessary,” Will said.
“Gotcha,” Evelyn nodded.
They continued their journey after Will had stored the Imps inside his mostly empty Bag of Holding, which he had emptied of stuff back at the Mall, hiding his items inside a locked room behind a large piece of furniture, invisible to everyone except those who knew there was something there.
Will was curious about what Imp meat would taste like, although he didn’t like how he was beginning to think or imagine these things nowadays. It felt like every day he became more feral.
The cores could also be stranger, as these were demons and not the usual monsters… but he would have to see that later.
“Gryaaarrrr!”
Suddenly, their silent advance was interrupted as a swarm of Imps appeared from the other side of the corridor, rushing toward them.
This time, there were way more than six—over fifteen of them—trying to overwhelm their foes in this small area by swarming them from every angle.
“Aw, shit, they’re too many!” John panicked, shooting his gun and firing several bullets, managing to kill only two Imps before the rest leaped toward them.
“HAAAH!”
Will roared, moving forward. His voice became incredibly loud, generating a shockwave of pure Mana that impacted all the Imps, sending them flying away alongside a strong, icy whirlwind.
BOOOM!
As the Imps were sent flying back to where they came from, the rest of the party quickly charged in, with Will at the front. He rapidly started engaging for real, swinging his hammer and axe, tearing the Imps to shreds while taking advantage of them being on the floor.
Ralph swung his staff and crushed their heads as strongly as he could, keeping those around him well-healed by touching their shoulders with his new ability, which helped him heal more with less Mana spent, as long as he touched them with his magic hands.
Vivian divided her Magic Hands, shaping them into sharp, spear-tipped tentacles, impaling the Imps before they could stand back up to attack them, while protecting Maria, who used her new stick to hit their heads and drain their blood, learning how to manipulate wood in the process.
Evelyn shot arrows from afar, covering everyone’s back and stopping some Imps from stabbing Will’s back by shooting them in the head or sometimes in the back or shoulders, giving Will enough time to finish them off.
John stayed behind them. After his initial gunshots, he was exhausted from Mana, glancing at the scene in silence.
Although Gunners were a pretty strong class that could abuse guns, they needed plenty of Mana to create each bullet, and once they were out of Mana, they were pretty useless.
Tier 2 monsters were also tough enough that they could easily survive a lot of kicks before even getting hurt enough. An old man’s kick wasn’t going to cut it, even with him having pretty high stats.
“Gryaaarrrr!”
As they fought the Imps, suddenly, another group charged in. This time, there were another dozens of them, but instead of attacking directly, they pointed bows and arrows at them.
“They’ve got bows!”
Will quickly create a wall made of ice, touching the floor with his hands and then charging forward with it, while everyone ran behind him. The bows were explosive—each one impacted his icy wall and blew up a chunk of it.
However, he kept charging, regenerating the wall until he reached the Imps, crushing them with the sheer force and weight of it.
CRASH!
As the Ice Wall broke apart into pieces, Will quickly noticed the surviving Imps trying to sneak outside, looking rather dazed and confused. He quickly grabbed one with his hands, crushing their neck and then punching another, stomping them once they were on the floor.
The other three escaped and tried to run away, but Evelyn shot three arrows, managing to hit all three of them. One died with an arrow in the head, while the other two fell to the ground, where Vivian and Maria finished them off.

“A-Are there no more of them coming?” John asked as he was carrying a spear Will gave him.
“No, I think that’s all of them for now,” Will said, looking around. “There’s a lot of those coins and… food and water?”
“Yeah, it’s food!” Maria said, running toward Will. “Look, Mister, it’s a cereal bar!”
“Huh…” Will grabbed the cereal bar. It had weird letters and a smiling imp mascot on it. The cereal bar seemed to be of… hell strawberry, whatever that was. “Hey, Cube, are these safe to eat?”
“Hmmm… yes, they’re made by the System to be eaten by humans,” Cube said. “See? This is yet another way the System is trying to keep you all alive!”
“…But to even get here, most people would die,” Will sighed. “The System isn’t that good at keeping people alive, to be honest.”
While grabbing the corpses and storing them inside his Bag of Holding, which he could store a lot of due to how small and lightweight they were, Will noticed some new loot aside from water bottles or cereal bars—a small black ring with a red jewel on top.
“What’s this?”
[Imp Ring (D Grade)]
[Equipment Type]: [Magic Accessory] [Ring]
[Equipment Requirements]: [Any Class]
[Equipment Parameters]: [Physical Defense]: [100] [Magic Defense]: [200] [Durability]: [500]
[Equipment Bonuses]: [+5 Magic Power] [+5 Magic Defense]
[Equipment Skill]: {Imp Fire}: [Conjure Small Flames shaped as little Imps to attack foes. These Imp Flames will explode upon contact with foes, dealing 50% Magic Damage. No Mana cost and no Cooldown, but each use spends 50 Durability of the Ring.]
“It’s a pretty good ring, all things considered,” Will thought. “The bonuses are not bad either… and the skill uses no Mana and has no cooldown, but… it takes Durability, so I can use it ten times before the ring breaks. Maybe I can just use it nine times and then never use it again and keep the ring for the bonuses. Yeah.”
Will nodded, quickly equipping the ring on one of his fingers. Despite the ring being smaller than them, it readjusted its size to fit any finger. Once equipped, he was able to feel his Mana capacity increase a little bit.
“Look, I found something as well!” Ralph said as he showed Will and the rest what resembled a red and black shield embedded with a red jewel. The metal was also shaped like the head of a laughing Imp. “It’s an Imp Shield.”
[Imp Shield (D Grade)]
[Equipment Type]: [Magic Shield] [Protection]
[Equipment Requirements]: [Any Class]
[Equipment Parameters]: [Physical Defense]: [1500] [Magic Defense]: [700] [Durability]: [1800]
[Equipment Bonuses]: [+7 Vitality]
[Equipment Skill]: {Demon Shield}: [Defends against Demon-type and Fire-type Attacks, nullifying 50% of their damage upon impact. When charging against a Demon-type foe, [Shield Bash] damage increases by 50%.]
“Oh? Not bad. It’s perfect for you, Ralph…”
Will was happy and kind of wanted to keep the shield for himself, but Ralph earned it, and it would be more beneficial for him, as he had nothing going for him aside from his healing skills.
And when compared to his Leather Coat…
[Chimera Leather Coat (D+ Grade)]
[Weapon Type]: [Magic Armor] [Coat]
[Weapon Requirements]: [Any Class]
[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Defense]: [1300] [Magic Defense]: [1000] [Durability]: [2500]
[Weapon Bonuses]: [+4 Agility] [+4 Vitality] [+4 Dexterity] [+4 Senses]
[Weapon Skill]: {Awakened Beast}: [By infusing Mana and taking enough physical or magical attacks with your coat, you can unleash your coat’s Beastly Power, temporarily making the Chimera come to life and attack nearby foes with powerful bites and sharp claws, dealing up to 150% Damage constantly for 10 Seconds. Cooldown: 10 Minutes.]
They were pretty similar.
“Have you found anything else other than coins and food?” Will asked, but nobody could find anything else.
By now, Vivian, Ralph, and Evelyn had purchased their own Bags of Holding too, so they decided to help him store the Imp corpses and the loot they found, knowing every corpse here was valuable materials and “food” for Will.
“Nope, I think that’s all,” Evelyn said. “I hope we can get a new bow for me or something. Would be nice.”
“A new staff… would be cool…” Vivian nodded.
“Well, I’m happy with this shield,” Ralph smiled, gaining the jealous glares of the two girls.
“Mister Policeman, want some water?” Maria shared one of the water bottles with John.
“Aah, thank you. I was getting thirsty,” John nodded, drinking almost half the bottle. “Phew, that hits the spot! It’s really cold and refreshing—Hm?!”
However, in that moment, the old man noticed how his Mana suddenly recovered by almost half of it instantly.
“M-My energy…! Mana, you call it? It almost recovered fully!” he said.
“Really…?” Will asked. “Then… the food and water we get as drops are also healing items… That’s amazing. We’d better use them carefully, then.”
“Alright, let’s keep moving. The open area should be close, right?” Vivian asked.
“Yes, let’s move,” Will nodded.
As they walked forward, everyone suddenly started feeling… tired, and the entire air, the atmosphere of the caves, began to change, twisting, becoming strange and confusing.
However, once they finally reached the end of this corridor and reached the open area, Will and his friends noticed there wasn’t a single Imp there.
Just… a thing.
“W-What is that?!” Vivian asked.
“Ngh…” Will battled the headache he was suddenly feeling by watching that thing. “T-That’s…!”
“GRAAAAHHHH!”
The thing screamed upon gazing at them, its arms and legs twisting, its head screaming in agony while crying and vomiting blood constantly.
An abomination made out of the bodies of dozens of humans stitched together, pierced with various blazing stakes and imbued with crimson runes.
And a single, gigantic crimson eye in the middle of its aberrant body…
[The [Aberrant Vessel of {Hell} (Tier 3: Level 5)] gazes upon your Soul!]
[Demonic Divinity oozes through its orifices; its demonic eye attempts to damage your soul!]
“Shit…!”
RUMBLE!
A blazing shockwave hit Will as he screamed, falling to the ground while feeling a sharp pain in his chest. He could have avoided that, but something had just made him stay there and watch.
“Will!”
Vivian ran toward him while John and Evelyn started firing arrows and guns at the thing, which quickly started screaming in pain, rushing toward them with its many arms and legs.
“What the fuck is this thing?! Aaagh!”
Evelyn panicked. Her Mana was poured entirely into a single Starlight Arrow, creating a gigantic arrow that pierced through the monster, generating a huge explosion of light.
BOOOM!
“Ugh?!”
Will glanced at the scene as he protected Vivian from the impact.
And then, there was silence.
The strange migraines they were feeling disappeared, as if there were none to begin with.
Whatever that thing was, just by gazing at its form and eye, it was making them go insane.
“D-Damn it…”
Evelyn almost fell unconscious as John managed to catch her, feeding her the rest of the water from the bottle he had.
At the same time, Will stood up, looking around, just confused overall.
“What just happened? That thing… Ah!”
However, he quickly realized he never got a notification for the thing having been slain…
“AAAEEEHHH…”
Its aberrant, combined screams echoed again. Amidst the smoke, the monstrous thing appeared. Half of its body was gone as it was trying to regenerate, growing tiny tendrils and tentacles.
“It’s not dead yet?!” Vivian asked.
“We have to take it down, and quickly!” Will said. “Stay behind me! Attack it with all you’ve got!”
As he said these words, he charged toward the “Vessel of {Hell}.” Its dozens of arms clashed against Will, punching him all over his body, while Will swung his axe and hammer, crushing its arms and cleaving them apart one by one.
“HAAAAH!”
He started to feel the migraine again, the more that red eye gazed upon him!
“Unnggh…! F-Fuck off! Get out of my head!”
Will roared angrily, manifesting a giant icicle out of his Ocean Hand Skill and piercing the thing’s eye.
CRASH!

Demonic Divinity??? now which ArchDemon blessed that thing? Also I wonder if it's possible for Will to melt the ring down and fuse it with one of his weapons so he can keep the [Imp Flames] 🤔
