WONDER WOMAN - Full Length Reaction!

Eugh. The ONLY good thing to EVER come out of this version of DC. CANNOT WAIT until she's FINALLY done with it, and starts reacting to the good stuff..............EUGGGGGH.

Diiirk706

I like this one cuz it's a period piece, the ww1 mood is cathartic

Casey Ryback

I love this movie, not just my favorite DCEU movie but one of my overall favorite superhero movies. One could call this a romance movie that just happens to also be a superhero movie. One thing I love about this movie is that during the big CGI ending the movie never forgets about the characters at the expense of the action. I went into Justice League a few months later so high after this and boy that movie was so bad. Even worse was how bad Wonder Woman 1984 was even though the director was the same. Oh well, we'll always have this gem.

Andrew Roach

Such a fun reaction! Wo der Wonder is easily in my top 5 favorite superhero movies (along with Zack Snyder's Justice League)

You made an excellent point about some superhero movies spreading themselves out too much between many characters. There are obviously some great superhero films with a big ensemble (e.g. Endgame) but there are also plenty where the big cast feels like it’s either bloated or where it seems like it would have been much better as a miniseries to allow for more detail on the individual arcs (e.g. The Eternals). Having a single, strong protagonist is a better bet than having lots of heroes none of whom can really stand out or, even worse, increase the chances at least one of them is a dud that drags the film down with them. On the flip side, though, I’ll say that maybe even more important that an entertaining protagonist is to have a really great villain. The Dark Knight is maybe the best superhero movie of all time, for instance, and a big part of it is Heath Ledger’s amazing Joker. Both of Bale’s other Batman movies in the trilogy simply aren’t as memorable as Dark Knight and much of the credit is due to the Joker being such a captivating bad guy in that film. (And keep in mind, Two Face was also in that film and was also outshined by Ledger. I almost think the film might have been even better had they not even included Two Face at all to give that much more focus on Joker’s arcs!) And this is the one place I think Wonder Woman loses slightly, the bad guys really aren’t all that memorable (aside from the twist of who Ares is, that’s kind of fun.) The old Batman (with Jack Nicholson) and Superman (with Gene Hackman) are other example where the film is really lifted by the entertaining bad guy, I really think a great villain is what separates 9s from 10s in these films. And on a tangent, uninteresting antagonists is also where a some MCU films miss the mark. Black Widow, for instance, has a strong cast of protagonists but Taskmaster and Drakov are kind of meh in terms of personality. The weakest part of The Marvels and Thor 2 were the totally forgettable villains. Even Guardians of the Galaxies weakest point is its main antagonist Ronin. And then on the flip side, Infinity Wars and Endgame are raised by Thanos being such a strong character. Anyway, I definitely agree on Wonder Woman being one of my top favorite superhero movies for all the reasons you mentioned. The post just got me going down the rabbit hole of how important villains are too.

How stunning is Gal Gadot in this movie 👏

Not only is Wonder Woman my favorite movie (by a mile) of the modern DCEU, it might be my favorite single movie of the entire recent comic book movie trend. I say that as someone who has generally enjoyed the Marvel stuff (while also generally being apathetic to the DCEU). It's got its flaws, but before they really become apparent, gosh, it just seeps movie magic. I could write an essay analyzing the elements in Wonder Woman that are missing from the majority of the recent spate of comic movies. But I'll keep it shorter: There is a simplicity to the storytelling, presenting a satisfying three-act structure that is self-contained, rather than just being another episode in a franchise. It's not overstuffed with "heroes," but only focuses on one. Aesthetically, it has that old-fashioned lushness that isn't to be found in the flat look of the Marvel movies, nor in the dour, ugliness of the Zach Snyder-directed movies. And it's got a gorgeous music score.

Re watching this reminded how really good this was and sadly how bad the sequel was, i am excited to rewatch JLA though i havent seen it since it came out. Also i dont think you've watched a movie with this long of a runtime since the Lord of the RIngs but it is well worth it over the other version.

Jasbro

I just finished watching with you and then this weekend I will be re-watching it again.

Billy Dancel

It’s 100% her John Williams Superman theme, also benefits from being her only major theme, aside from the iconic theme from the Lynda Carter late ’70s TV series. I wouldn't be shocked if we hear elements of that theme in the DCU whenever Wonder Woman gets introduced.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Just for fun, how about an informal poll? If you're reading this which movie do you like better, Wonder Woman or Captain America: The First Avenger? I think most people agree both are excellent films, and they both have kind of a similar vibe going (i.e. unexpected superhero with unshakable conviction and a belief in the good of people fighting the Germans in a World War period alongside a group of ragtag allies on rogue missions, and who meet the love of their life along the way and lose them too soon. )

Doug

Awesome, love this one, it's easily one of my top superhero films of all time. 🙂 Wonder Woman also has one of favorite action soundtracks (her own theme is the Hans Zimmer song "Is She With You?" that's played in Dawn of Justice when she joins the fight, and it's pretty fire! 🔥)

Doug

Nice! Great reactions to your fellow Wonder Woman! 😄 Have to say this one and Man of Steel are still my favorite DCU movies. Thought you might just like this one a little.

Major Peril

It's a good movie, isn't it? As I thought you might, you were very invested in Diana, and even enjoyed the romance vicariously. While it was sad to see Steve go, there is a certain iconic story value to his death. Good men, you see, serve others, even to the point of dying to help them. It happens to our law enforcement officers every day. I'm glad you liked this movie. May I recommend two of the animated movies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. They are both excellently written.

Augustus87

Great reaction!! Can't wait for more DCU

Jayson Phillips

This is probably my favorite DCU movie.

Joe Mallard

Most movies that come out today aren't original.

Setting aside the WW1 vs WW2 part, here is a synopsis I found online: "An unlikely candidate for heroism gets endowed with extraordinary power, and sets off into a world-consuming war in order to stop a German scientist and rogue general from unleashing a terrible weapon (born of mystical power) that could change the course of the war. Along the way, our hero picks up a diverse group of rag-tag fighters, who help to reach that mission objective. In the end, the hero destroys the villain, before a massive plane carrying the weapon can destroy Allied forces. However, that victory comes at the price of the hero losing his/her closest confidant, and a deep romance ends up going unrequited. " Don't get me wrong, Wonder Woman is a really good movie. It's just not original.

She's DEFINITELY going to have a lot of fun with Red Notice (2021), especially considering that Ryan Reynolds & Dwayne Johnson are also in it. #RedNoticeForAddieCounts And I 100% second Unstoppable (2010). That's one Tony Scott movie that I've been trying to get Addie to watch. #Unstoppable2010ForAddieCounts

I did really enjoy that movie, but it’s not really a Birds of Prey film. It’s like if they made an X-Men movie called X-Men (With Your Friendly Neighborhood, Amazing Spider-Man), but it was mostly about Spider-Man, who's not even part of the X-Men. Plus, the members of the team don’t really look or act like their comic versions. The only reason they got away with this is because Birds of Prey isn't as well-known to the mainstream audience, so they slapped a big name on it. Ideally, they should've waited until they introduced Batgirl and then made a Birds of Prey film with her since she’s actually a member of the team. Or just call it Harley Quinn, featuring nothing to do with the Birds of Prey, since their addition doesn't really add much.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I totally see that being the reason they switched to WWI instead of WWII like in the comics, along with the animation. People probably would've compared it too much to Captain America: The First Avenger and, in general, to Captain America himself. Which is a shame, since WWII was not only important for Wonder Woman but also for the Justice Society. Though I doubt they would've wanted to introduce them, especially since the DCEU was inspired by the New 52, which removed the Justice Society from existence. :(

LittleGalaxyBoy

Original Origin: Wonder Woman made her debut in All Star Comics #8 (October 1941). Steve Trevor crashes on Themyscira (Known then as Paradise Island), and after being nursed back to health, he tells her about the global conflict, which leads Athena to send Wonder Woman to stop World War II. She takes on the identity of Diana Prince and becomes a U.S. Army nurse before joining the Justice Society, fighting alongside them in the conflict and remaining a memeber afterwards. All of this happens on Earth-Two (Golden Age) home to the original versions of these characters who all had a definitive ending with Wonder Woman ascending to Earth-Two's Mount Olympus with her husband, General Steve Trevor, reaching godhood. Personal Thoughts: But overall, I really enjoyed this film and thought it did justice to Wonder Woman’s origin and character. It felt more in line with Wonder Woman as a character than Man of Steel did with Superman. It didn’t try to reinvent the character or shift the tone too much it’s simply a Wonder Woman film, with the biggest change being that it’s set in WWI instead of WWII. She embodies that classic, traditional superhero vibe, much like the original ideals of heroism, justice, and compassion. While the DCEU Batman and Superman were more re-imagined, Wonder Woman to me felt like Superman in the DCEU.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Wow! That seems like a pretty far-fetched plot to me. Why would anyone in their right mind want to make a movie like that? 😆

Major Peril

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 So glad that you watched this one. I agree! This is one of my favorite DCEU movies. A really good Wonder Woman/Diana Prince orgin story. For more Chris Pine, I highly recommend the 2010 "Unstoppable". And for more Gal Gadot, I highly recommend the 2021 movie "Red Notice". Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Randee Carreno

Ah yes a super hero movie set during a world war where the hero fights an evil Nazi science division and a soldier named Steve is involved in a plane crash at the end.

If you wanna see David Thewlis as the villain again, then you should watch DragonHeart (1996) with Dennis Quaid & Sean Connery. #DragonHeartForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/U1fktWItMPc?feature=shared And you should watch Chris Pine again in Unstoppable (2010) with Denzel Washington and directed by Tony Scott. #Unstoppable2010ForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/Ow1pFTObRrQ?feature=shared

Happy Friday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Wonder Woman (2017), as your favorite DCEU movie. I did see this in the theater with my mom and dad and we all enjoyed it. See you soon for either Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) or Aquaman (2018). BTW, I like how you now placed your 100K plackard next to your neon sign.

Alex Tan

It's only a Harley Quinn movie, because those are unrecognizable versions of everyone else in that film.

aarswft

Im looking forward to seeing this when I get home.

Matthew Maxon

I hope you react to Birds of Prey (2020) too. Its basically a Harley Quinn movie. Margot Robbie is so good in the role. The full name is actually Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Marko T.

Sweet! Been looking forward to this one.
