The EPIC ender MAN
2023-07-07 14:33:24 +0000 UTCNo it doesn't, because the whole reason in universe they took for this anime canon content was that Boruto was cleared to go on missions because the pills were effectively suppressing the extraction and keeping Momo at bay which means it was never supposed to manifest in an anime canon arc until the moment it does in the manga because when it happens in the manga it's a really huge deal. Why do you think they restrained themselves from having Boruto really lose himself and cause alarming damage because they can't do something that significant with karma until the manga. It shouldn't have been shown at all because it just made the episode look worse by having Boruto use a karma powered rasengan which is double the power used in a fit of rage that didn't kill Funamushi who's just a regular shinobi, even Kabuto had healing powers in Part One which made Naruto's attack less fatal and even then it still caused significant damage so there's no reason Funamushi should be alive after that.

2023-07-06 00:01:33 +0000 UTCNot at all defending the arc but you’re clearly hating on it more than it deserves even though yes it’s not as good as a lot of previous anime canon arcs. What the other guy said about the karma activation making is completely right imo. And I read the manga long before this was ever animated so ik the karma stuff makes sense here.

2023-07-05 23:48:39 +0000 UTCNo it absolutely contradicts everything. You misunderstood I thought simply placing the word karma by itself would be enough, I'm going to re-edit and say karma manifestation as in the mark activating, in the manga there was never this thing of Boruto being afraid to use that power until a certain event taking place but I don't want to spoil hence we were never meant to see him manifest it this early before those manga events because that's where we the audience first saw it and where Boruto expressed his feelings about it. That scene was specifically made for anime onlys who don't read the manga, that's why it was shown to remind audiences this is still a problem but they purposefully didn't have Boruto go all out. Don't defend this arc's horrible writing because a karma powered Boruto who struck Funamushi with a rasengan should have killed him because the jutsu is twice as powerful with karma and Funamushi just tanked it without any special shield like the Mujina boss had and he can't heal or regenerate so his organs should have been shot. Also Boruto was enraged in that moment so there's no way he was holding back; this episode is just dumb when it comes down to it because there was plenty of things they could have done to save Kagura before he got stabbed but they all stayed still because the script demanded it. They should have made a tighter script if they wanted this to be believable, there's a reason this arc is seen as the worst by most people.

2023-07-05 19:43:32 +0000 UTCNo. The Karma extraction is being suppressed, the Karma itself doesn't go anywhere and can be accessed just like Boruto explains. Boruto here access Karma in a moment of a rage, not because he wanted to. He even says he doesn't want to rely on Karma. Masaya Honda, a Boruto scriptwriter, around this time even addressed the criticism as to why Boruto wasn't using Karma against Seiren stating that Boruto loathes Karma as thanks to it he was partially to blame for seriously harmind his master Sasuke, so it doesn't make sense for Boruto to use it. Kagura's death is a completely different situation: it is a moment of grief and rage where Boruto loses control over his emotions and activates it. It makes sense and doesn't contradict anything.

2023-07-05 12:58:22 +0000 UTCOh cripes... here it is. The episode that launched a thousand memes due to that one badly drawn face. Even to this day you can find people using that one image as the example that "proves" the entire series of is bad. Honestly: to me this ep is the personification of this entire arc. If you just look at the story; there's good ideas there. It actually has a strong underlying theme and ideas. But the execution is nothing short of laughable. You even said it yourself when it happened; how do you make a moment like hitting a guy with a Karma infused Ras; and make it look lame? How do you draw a scene that involves a significant character death; and have people laughing at it? I can't blame the animators though. The studio that makes this series is notoriously aggressive towards its animators. Plus, this arc was being made around the same time as TYBW was in production, so the heavy hitters were all being moved to that series, plus they'd just come off the impeccable animation of the last arc. Of course the animators are all worn out and not able to put their best foot forward. But it doesn't make these eps any mess difficult to watch.

2023-07-05 12:48:12 +0000 UTCLucky this is one of those times where even if it's anime canon you have to pretend you didn't see the karma manifest because yes the karma is supposed to be suppressed and we don't see it activated in the manga until a very significant moment in time so this doesn't and shouldn't count. It's very similar to when Sasuke was awakened from his coma by Tsunade and the anime had team 7 go on a mission for a filler arc but it ruins the original intent of the story where Sasuke was in the hospital the whole time thinking of Itachi and resenting Naruto, that filler was dumb having them go on a mission and having Sasuke get injured so he'd be at the hospital in the anime. So this moment with the karma should be seen the same way.
