Nagato has the absolute best backstory in the entire series. It is so well written and thought out, so you can understand why he turns out the way he does. I usually do not feel anything when yahiko dies but today almost teared up because of your reaction great reaction my guy lucky. Great reaction again man. I've seen this multiple times and I still had to grab a jersey to keep wiping my eyes. But just to remind you of something. Do you remember when Jiraiya entered the leaf it was revealed that Pain killed Hanzo and took over the leaf. So he was not able to get him in this instance. But that is why he killed Hanzo, his entire family, etc.

As you have seen, one of the powers of the Rinnegan is to control life and death. The reason why Nagato didn't bring Yahiko back to life was because he didn't wanted to do that. His dream was destroyed then, he failed to protect his friends so he chose Yahiko last wish and his dream than just reviving Yahiko that will change nothing. So he chose the world over one life. (It's a little more complicated, but I don't want to give you spoilers. There are many more factors that influenced Nagato to get to this point, you'll find out in the future) ;)
