The Moth That Wasn't Doing Anything

We were wrong about the moth, it turns out! We had figured we'd let it be since it was just chilling on the ceiling and wasn't bothering anyone. Turns out that the moth was a flour moth, who had come from the flour bag we got from the lovely old mill we visited that one time. Also it wasn't merely chilling, it had gotten busy reproducing all over our dry pantry.

We've cleared them out now, though we're still keeping an eye out in case there's still a few survivors somewhere around here. It's a pity they all had to be killed, but unfortunately the punishment for shagging in our flour pantry is death.

Because I don't mind eating a few as long as i don't see them, All new flour, beans, etc go into the freezer for 48 hrs to week after entering the house. Seems to have solved the reproduction problem handily.

Winslow

Oof, I hate that! This past summer we had a flour beetle infestation in our pantry. We had to basically toss everything that was open or in paper or cardboard (since they can eat/squeeze their way in there). We got airtight containers and moved all of our dried goods over to them — from cereals to baking products to pasta — and haven't had any troubles since. It's also been keeping our food fresher for longer, which is a nice perk. Now, if we bring something home that has any pests in it, they'll at least be contained to just one airtight container, so we won't have to pitch everything all over again. 🤞🏻
