Public Denizen of the Month…My Troublesome Hand

This is sort of a denizen of the month post, but accessible to everyone because I’m about to get CUT ON!

My dumb wrist is definitely the MVP this month. I have carpal tunnel to an extent that made my doctor’s eyes get REAL BIG when she saw the ultrasound. She kept looking at me like I should also be alarmed. I said: “Unless there’s gonna be a baby on that screen I have no idea what I’m looking at. Is it supposed to look like that?”

Doc: “It is super not supposed to look like that.”

So I’m heading in for surgery today! I’m very excited because for eleven years I’ve been in pain ALL THE TIME. Writing hurts. Cooking hurts. Everything has hurt for so long.

They do one hand at a time so Righty, being the worse off of the two, is up today. Recovery is two weeks of not being able to pick up anything heavier than a coffee cup. I’m supposed to be able to type again sometime this week, so the month’s rewards should be set to go, but the essay might have to be dictated, we’ll see.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knows why I’ll be slow on everything for the next two weeks. Just the possibility of less pain is so worth it. But if I’m slower than I want to be please forgive me!

Also I’m nervous. Here’s hoping it all goes fine!

Oh queen, things aren't going well for you, are they? A wrist problem and you're going to have surgery? I'm sorry for you. But tell me, does it hurt you? And does it really scare you of being exploited? I'm here to listen to you, queen. And... (I move closer to you) I'm here to give you some comfort.

Whoof! Fingers crossed for a quick recovery but don't push it! Give yourself time to really heal.

Wishing you a speedy and full recovery. Don't worry about being slower...we understand and just want you to stop being in pain all the time!

My mum had that in both hands too, she had both surgeries and they've been great since, no further issues. Here's to a fast and happy set of recoveries!

Eleven years is a long time to suffer in such an important body part. I, too, wish you the best recovery. My mom, a writer, had her own carpal tunnel battles, and had some fairly agonizing and extended physical therapy to get better. I hope you don't need that. But in case you do, she was very firm about it having been worth it.

May all go well surgery, recovery, and overall health-wise, and make sure you take all the time to heal!

Sarah Marcotte

Fingers crossed and candles lit for less pain and increased joy in your future!

Give it time to heal. Maybe give us a report on how well ChatGPT can follow spoken directions to correct transcription and make edits.

Don't rush back to typing. I know it is your thing, but make sure you give your arms a chance to settle... Speaking as a supporter, i prefer taking the long game. :)
