Roundscape II - Progress Report September 2024

Hello everyone,

Today, I’m excited to share our latest progress on the Roundscape II revision.

To start, I’d like to introduce you to the main player characters of Roundscape II!

The Player Character

As you can see, the survey significantly influenced their design.

Adorevia has become a far more dangerous place—the gods have vanished, and factions are locked in a fierce struggle for power. Although our new heroes aren’t champions, they’ve grown up in this harsher, deadlier version of Adorevia. Their more experienced appearance offers a refreshing contrast to the heroes from Roundscape Adorevia.

While the character design is established, due to the transition to animated 2D CG scenes, you will still have options to customize your player character in other ways.

During character creation, you will be able to define your hero by making choices in five different sections: Blessing, Scar, Craft, Talent and Instinct.

  • Blessing - A special talent or fortunate gift your character has inherited.

    • Touched by the Moon: You start the game with an unique mini companion.

    • Touched by the Sun: You start the game with extra health.

    • Touched by the Stars: You start the game with extra mana.

    • Touched by Fortune: You start the game with 2000 gold coins.

    • Touched by the Void: A mystery remains.

  • Scar - A difficult experience from your past. This will unlock a unique quest as part of the storyline.

    • No Scar Upon Me: The Free-form choice that does not further define the character for players who do not want to make a choice here.

    • Forged in Steel: You lived a strict military life under the watchful eye of Blade Commander Olivia. One day, she disappeared during a mission. You left your home to find her.

    • Betrayed by Destiny:  A famous archivar took you in. He tried his best to educate you, but under his strict and heavy-handed approach, you struggled to thrive. Eventually, he gave up on you, sending you out into the world

    • Left Alone: You lived as an orphan in a small village in Esharia, but you were never truly alone. But as time went by, all your friends left and eventually so did you.

  • Craft

    • The Past: You have studied the past, driven by a deep passion for history.

    • The Gods: The gods may be gone, but their knowledge endures, and you have delved into it.

    • The Wild: Nature takes many forms, and you are familiar with a great number of them.

    • The Coin: Trade and wealth motivate you; numbers and contracts bend to your will.

    • The Tactician: Whether to protect or to invade, some go to war. Though you have yet to see one firsthand, you have studied many battles

  • Talent

    • The Thief: Deception and distraction come naturally to you, allowing you to take what you desire.

    • The Knight: You know how to inspire your allies and instill fear in the hearts of your foes.

    • The Mage: The arcane arts are second nature to you; your very soul is intertwined with magic.

  • Instinct

    • The Wall: Your willpower is as strong as iron, enabling you to endure the toughest of times.

    • The Heart: Passion courses through your veins, and you can sense the desires of others.

    • The Eye: A slight change in expression reveals their lies, and you have the keen ability to detect them.

The World of Roundscape II

We’re focused on creating a game that truly captures the essence of Roundscape II. Opting for an orthographic top-down camera felt like the natural choice.

We’re proud of the game’s visual style, which combines a distinct, stylized look with a faster workflow—creating new levels, characters, and content is roughly five times quicker than in previous builds.

While the core story of Roundscape II remains intact, this revision allows us to refine certain elements, including story pacing and character development. The maps will be slightly smaller but packed with more meaningful content.

As Roundscape II is community-funded, we want to share our overall plan for the game's story.

Minor spoilers ahead!

The Search for Konitros

The gods have abandoned Adorevia, and the world is slowly dying.

The Church of the Rose is struggling to hold back the spreading corruption, but their efforts are in vain.

Someone must rise to the challenge, uncover the truth, and discover where the gods have gone.

Someone must find Konitros.

This is the central storyline of Roundscape II.

The Three Acts of Roundscape II

Roundscape II will consist of three acts.

Act I - The Blade

The first act serves as the introduction, setting the stage for the story. It takes place in Adorevia, where you’ll encounter key factions such as the Church of the Rose, the Goakuna, and the town of Maryton.

We expect Act I to offer around 5 hours of gameplay. By the end of this act, you will have recruited several companions and secured your own base.

Act II - Eclipse

The second and largest act is much more open-ended. You'll receive a map filled with diverse locations to explore and complete. Some are key areas that unlock the path to the final act, while others offer additional content that can expand even after the main storyline is completed.

Most of these locations are not on Adorevia. By the end of Act I, you’ll acquire your own player base, but instead of a castle, this time it’s a magical ship called the Eclipse. The ship allows you to traverse the Planar Scape, visiting different worlds, planes and dimensions.

You’ll be able to customize the Eclipse and recruit companions from various worlds and realms. And yes, there will be an ocean planet—because who doesn’t love ocean worlds?

Our goal with Roundscape II is to take players on a journey through extraordinary places, meeting diverse characters and cultures across different biomes—with plenty of fun and adventurous twists along the way.

Act III - Adorevia

The final act is smaller in scope, much like the first one. It serves as a grand culmination of your choices, successes, and failures. We’re keeping the details under wraps to avoid spoilers, but this act will bring everything to a dramatic conclusion.

Thank you

for your time and support. We hope you like the first glimpses of the new version of Roundscape II. We are making great progress and will release in the next few months. Until then, we are releasing some new Starmaker Story content every month

Stay tuned!

Roundscape II - Progress Report September 2024

Comments

based on first game I'm expecting orks, lycanthropes, minotaurs as well as possible lesbian action...I'm curios if we'll meet the xyless from before and if mayla appears if you let her have the power in the first game

Skylar Corvinus

can't wait to try it

Skylar Corvinus

Apologies if this has been asked already, but are we going to get "exotic" scenes with this game too? It looks awesome so far and even if it's just as simple as beast men like minotaurs and the like that's good with me.

Avery H. Mavery

A few characters from RS:A will for sure return, especially those with longer lifespans like the Succubus or the Sun Elves.

Kaliyo

Thank you and I agree. The new version of Roundscape 2 feels just "right" to work on. It feels and looks like a true sequel to RS:A.

Kaliyo

A mobile version is possible, but would very likely happen after the game is completed because we don't have the manpower for multiplatform developement during build.

Kaliyo

Nice! Very excited for this game and completely happy with the change. Keep it up!

Lazycloud

Love seeing the different options for character creation. Especially since I love getting to pick a background for your character with its own questline. Also love the different options, it's fun to imagine what sort of character you want to create. I think i already have a pretty good idea on what I'll pick for my first character, but I'm torn between a couple of options on some.

gun506 .

It looks really promising, I can’t wait to play and see the future developement notes >.<

RiasMory

Think at the end of the day I prefer this. The 3d version was awesome, and I'm still hoping the Goliath girl will make a return in this new 2d revision. But damn i loved how the first roundscape played.

Shura

I love this, it sounds like more of the world I learned to love. But one question: this will still be only developed for PC and not in RPG Maker I assume? So a mobile version would be hard to do. I loved play the first game on my phone through Joiplay.

Rico W.

i actually like this change as sad as it is to see the old version no longer worked on and i do understand hy that did look like hell on earth to get that far i think this is actually better thinking on the dev side and the time required to work on the game itself so yes im going to keep my sub up as this makes me feel more excited for the next release.

Bocaan

The character designs will definitely make me play with both of them in my playthroughs! Apperiate how straight forward this post is. Some time until we get the 1st build, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. With dimensions being a huge part, any chanceany of the older characters can still come back even if they don't live for thousands of years?
