Roundscape Eclipse News

Hey folks,

we've got some important news regarding Roundscape Eclipse.

What is possible and what isn't?

The last few weeks, I thought a lot about Roundscape Eclipse.

The main questions occupying my mind were:

The Conclusion

Keeping the current style of development is not sustainable in the long run.

I would probably burn myself out, or the game will lack severe polishing when done. Probably both. Even creating a "low budget version" of Baldur's Gate 3 would need a team of at least twenty people, which we can't afford.

So...

We are reshaping Roundscape Eclipse.

In the coming three months, we are reworking the game into a Top-Down RPG.

We will also release a Starmaker Story Update every month.

You can expect the following changes for Roundscape Eclipse:

We hope you understand and maybe even like those changes.

We will do regular posts in which we will show off those changes until the first release.

Thank you for your support and trust, the next Starmaker Update will be released next week

happy about the changes honestly I've been wondering how you would pull it off

Joshua wolf

Can someone help me, I don't know where to find the quest npc: oakshire rebuild

Ulquiorra 4

honestly this is a good call as most 3D games sound good on paper but most hentai games work best as 2D with more focus on animations for the art as most nude 3D models just don't look right and some just look creepy when subjected to false emotions or other actions requiring strange movements out of ordinary for most action games

Skylar Corvinus

I totally agree and support this decision. Will you get back to RPGmaker for Eclipse ?

Pygmalion

Especially for the sex scenes. 3D models can get tedious with time but 2D art can bear more, scenery, facial expressions, all details that requires a complete team to work on 3D.

Pygmalion

Yeah, as stated above. The first reworked build features both male and female PC.

Kaliyo

I'm a little confused because the original post clearly states that you'll be able to choose your gender in the very first playable build?

Tristometer

I think these new changes are both healthy and necessary, just as you said - this was the right idea. Informing us about these changes is also massively appreciated.

Tristometer

We're focused on the new version of RS2.

Kaliyo

Understandable, it's very hard to make everyone happy in gamedev, I hope you decide to check out the next RS2 update when it drops build since it includes both male and female PC. Also, imo Starmaker Story is still worth a try since it has a female deuteragonist. Thank you for your support in the past.

Kaliyo

I have exactly the same feeling, i only play female characters and i have absolutely no interest in starmaker whatsoever. As it is now, i really don´t see a point in continuing with my pledge as the current state of affairs really has nothing to do with my personal tastes

On one hand, the part about Roundscape sounds very reasonable; that did seem like a way too ambitious of a project. But on the other hand... I really only care about playing as a female protagonist, so the monthly Starmaker update is a HUGE downer for me. We've had other "male-only" projects over the years, but at least they were one-and-done. But if this one is a monthly thing and a large amount of the development time goes to it... Then most of the development effort is for stuff that I have zero interest in. I've been a member for eight years now, but I think that's probably going to be it for me with that news. I had been hoping for other stuff (Like Banished that had all the art done and was planned to come early 2023, or the big Arenus update / rework) that have both vanished without any mention since. And monthly Starmaker, combined with a brand new big game starting from zero means absolutely nothing playable with a female protagonist for many, many months. And at 10$ per month for "nothing" (for my tastes due to no female protagonist), I don't think I can justify it anymore unfortunately. Thanks for Roundscape and Arenus and best of luck with your projects!

Are you still planning on releasing 0.3? Or is it being scrapped for this new reshaping? Looking forward to see how your changes unfold!

Alright, very sad. For me its okay to wait for Updates with 3D Models. Even when its a long term. The Modeling and Art Style ist outstanding. But when it comes up to 2D, im out. Sorry.

Roccy

All good man. And in all honestly, I never had a problem with 2D rpgmaker games like the first Roundscape was. Like even that type of 2D rpgmaker game with full (or partial) voice acting and then high quality 2D CG or 2D animated, or full on 3D animated is absolutely fantastic to me. Because I've bought a lot of crummy adult games these last 3 years that weren't as advertised or were abandoned. But you and whoever is part of your team make quality games. Do what you need to and just know that this patron has no problem with rpgmakers/topdown games.

I kind of enjoyed getting to run around and jump on stuff, also enjoyed the view of the maps. But I was also kind of iffy on the direction and 3d scenes, so I really like the change. Will furanh, not entirely sure I got their name right, be doing the art for eclipse? Really like their art style and kind of grew to relate it to roundscape. Edit: actually, I guess the answer to my question is a bit obvious based on the images in the post.

gun506 .

ha stupid idea make the last roundscape update 6.9, if you know my drift xD. sorry I’m drunk.

Lune Nighdaar

nice to hear that you found a good direction to move forward. With the top-down view, when I understand correctly the game will be more like BG3 or pathfinder games? Maybe make it a hack and slash like diablo? have a question for roundscape. is the first one now finished or is there still a patch/update coming? i'm waiting to play it again since the final “golden 6.0” update was announced but than there were still more updates coming. ^^

Lune Nighdaar

Yeah, a bit sad that it didn't work out. But we can use a lot of assets by turning them low poly. This will make finishing the new version a lot faster.

Kaliyo

RS2's female protag will get a lot of love. Maybe our next minigame will feature a female pc.

Kaliyo

Yeah, the previous approach would be possible but would require me to work like 16 hours a day, every day of the week. My body would just shut down at some point.

Kaliyo

Yeah, and 2D games don't really age. So the game will always look good.

Kaliyo

We'll give our best to make this feel like a true sequel to adorevia!

Kaliyo

Thanks!

Kaliyo

Fully agreed, and hope for you guys

Completely understandable. Don't wear yourself out and if doing this makes things easier then do that! Either way, we're going to love it, at least I will if anything. Excited for the updates to come!

LostMemories

Ngl I really didn't like the new approach to 3D so I am ok if you are going to tone it back a bit and incorporate your 2D style

Jayden Warwick

Feels like the right decision, and a wise move. I approve of the change from an aesthetic point of view as well, as I don't believe the technology is affordable or efficient enough to allow for indie devs to do convincing 3d modeling and animation. Those type of games always look 'off', to me, and they are a dime a dozen with how many are out there. This change will enable your game to stand out more, I think, and I am happier to support it with the changes you shared.

Blue Stealth

Starmaker did look like a pretty good game, but with male protag only i'm just not interested. would love if you'd add a female option

Dyamonde

Fully understand and approve of those changes. I respected the ambition of Roundscape 2 OG and wanted to support it, but I did worry it would have to be scaled back A LOT to create the level and depth of content in Roundscape 1. Absolutely think this is the right call and I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to the Starmaker updates too.
