State of the Game - December 2019

Hey folks!

Merry Christmas from the Arvus Team!

Thank you all for your awesome support in 2019. It was a crazy year, we've released Below Sunshade, our first game on Steam, a lot of Roundscape content and started the production of our first 3D game.

Let's talk about Project Uprising!

Last time we've mentioned that you'll be able to play Project Uprising pretty soon, now we can tell you that we're aiming for an initial release for February 2020!

Project Uprising is our next big title since Roundscape which we'll create together with you. So unlike Below Sunshade or Arenus, the game won't be released in a finished state but instead we'll do regular updates and shape the game's content together.

Some of you wondered why we don't finish Arenus first, i'll be honest with you guys. We've run into heavy technical problems caused by the very limited RPG Maker engine we've used for our previous games and Arenus.

We've reached the ceiling of what is possible and are right now are taking a close look at Arenus and how we can make sure that it becomes the game it deserves to be. All our future titles will be produced with Unity.

You are the hero. Chose a gender, customize your character and define his or her personality through 8 different traits.

Similar to Roundscape the player character will be more of in a blank state and you'll be able to define his/her personality. Thanks to the advantages of 3D developement, we're able to add a lot of customization options. You can see an example of the character creation at the top of this post.

Of course we'll be adding more options as the game grows bigger.

Below you can see an example for the dialogue system in Project Uprising.

We really want to go back to our roots but we also don't want to walk on the spot. So we've taken inspiration from existing dialogue systems from our favorite RPGs such as Divinity Original Sin 2 or Fallout New Vegas.

We've worked a lot on Project Uprising's combat since we've first announced it.
Or better said: We've reworked it a lot.

We want the game to be simply fun: We're NSFW Devs in the first place.
The Game and its combat shouldn't be frustrating or stressful.

Just click on an enemy to start auto attacking him, use special skills to get the upper hand. Just as in Dragon Age Origins and if you feel like overwhelmed you can always press space to activate slow motion to plan your actions.

You'll be able to equip up to two passives, three active skills and two items.

But what is Project Uprising about?

It's easy. You're playing a young adult who's blessed with powers. Your goal will be to become famous/known. The question is: What kind of hero will you be?

The optimistic hero who would never betray his ideals, the one who does what is necessary or do you just want to fight stronger enemies and show the world?

Along your way you'll meet many different characters who may become your companions in combat, create your own team and of course: Experience a lot of kinky action and romances.

We hope we were able to spark your interest in Project Uprising!

Let us know what you think in the comments and on discord!

Stay tuned

so, what happened to this?

Cornelia

ya know for those who might wanna drop any pretense of heroism outright

King Of Tentacle

any possibility of a villain or fallen hero type of route?

King Of Tentacle

Last image is very good

Just make do with what you have for Arenus in RPG maker. Get back to it and finish it, don't waste time second guessing everything. Just do it.

Bagendenten

What about Arenus

Papi Penchev

honestly as long as you keep slowly improving or create a ng+ for roundscape i'll keep subbing as anyone who can create something of that scope deserves some artistic freedom, even if roundscape is ceased to be worked on. i will likely still sub for a while, atleast untill i see the results of your next "big" project

Gareth

heh, i don't even know what to think about this stuff anymore. a future of Unity? not sure if I'm down with the creative direction going forward. Arenus basically perma delayed? Gonna need to seriously consider if I wanna keep committing money to this.

TheRevanchist

I could now write an in-depth reply but instead i'm just going to say: Wait for the game and try it out yourself. Arenus and Banished are not cancelled. Pre-Production is complete, our goal is simply that Arenus becomes the best possible version of itself and that's hard to achieve in an engine such as RPG Maker.

Kaliyo

We hope that we can appeal to our Roundscape fans with this project, so you can expect a similar range of NSFW content in it.

Kaliyo

While we're proud of the story and world we've created with those games, the reception was pretty luke warm. We believe this is the best way to continue the uprising IP and I strongly believe that the Superhero genre offers a lot of playground for good NSFW games.

Kaliyo

We'll look into it, but Windows will always be our main platform. Also hope you folks have a good start into 2020 as well, cheers!

Kaliyo

Thanks!

Kaliyo

What's gonna happen to the other Uprising?

digitall

(Replied to some, so this post is basically just a summarized version of my comments here) Promo4Promo with cheap 3D devs -> Arenus (as good as) cancelled -> Makes own 3D game. Truely a shame. Roundscape was such an amazing game, mostly everything afterwards was okay-ish (except Banished and Arenus, they looked SO amazing, but both are cancelled, I wonder why). Now we have this game. Now I don't want to be all bad-news-bears here, but... I don't think Kaliyo will be as big of a name as it is now a few months from now.

OmegaYikes

For me, and probably many others, 3D games are unpleasant to look at. And even you have to confess, compared to their previous games, most importantly Roundscape, this is the worst downgrade in the history of downgrades. We've went from one of the best, to something you can find just about everywhere.

OmegaYikes

Dam this looks really promising. I look forward to see where this leads in the future.

DrakonM15

Thank you for giving us the option for a female protagonist after all! For NSFW games, I simply can't play male protagonists, so this is very welcome.

Ayra

Tbh, they could say people with alien looks just have mutant type powers or something.

Osiris

Since you are now using unity, will you be so kind as to having a Linux build beside the windows and/or the Mac one. Unity does not play ball with standard wine, and you have to setup Proton and tech like that before you have a chance to get it working. And making a Linux build should be as easy as making a windows build especially if you do not use arcane 3rd party libraries in your code :) RPGM MV is easy to convert to native Linux because it's based on webtech, Ren'py is easy to convert but otherwise plays ball nicely with standard wine because it's based on Python, Unity creates strong platform dependant binaries, so it doesn't share the same kind of platform in-dependency as the other two engines. Wish you a happy new year.

waffel

So PC Female/Male character customization? I like that replay ability factor.

Doctor Fate

I can't wait to play it!

Binnoc9

I gotta say, the best part of Roundscape was the species variety. If this game is going to be human-centric, then I hope these are some damn fine looking humans!

Karackas

Hi, I like it and I have to admit that you did a piece of work and what concerns me I am of the opinion of the progress and technology if the game will have some direction and depth like Roundscape so I'm definitely for 3D,) And next year I will certainly support you... ,)

Kira

I really liked the writing in Uprising, the MV version. Not a fan of the engine, prefer renpy VNs, so it's just about the story. I had no interest in Arenus, so this is generally good news. I'm not terribly excited to hear the 3d action announcement as it takes quite a lot of work for the animation to be good enough to pay off and not look poor - but I guess action mechanics do fit the genre. I thought the MV action screens were something I had to suffer through to get to the story and the H-scenes; let's see if it will be the same with unity or not. 2d rendered CG made with 3d assets can look great though, looking forward to seeing the results there :)

Robert Arctor

soo fucking sad....w8 for Arenus and got this 3dcrap... gg

Ilya

Really liked the first Uprising so I'm excited to see all the changes here. Will it have a similar range of taste as in the first one or more expansive like Roundscape?

Osiris

Hey, after reading some of the other comments I just wanted to say that if the animations throughout the game stay on the same level as in the post and on the character creation screen, I have no doubt that it will be great. Also the move to unity will probably give you additionally possibilities regarding gameplay, so i am very exited. I just find it surprising that people are scared about the move to 3D because there are so many shitty 3D adult games. The problems these games have is not the 3D but shit gameplay, uninspired/basic story and no love for details, and looking at something like roundscape you probably don't need to worry too much about a lot of the competition.

Roundscape is a completed game, we'll release a final gold patch for it in 2020 tho.

Kaliyo

So I'm going to assume that Roundscape is still being made but put on a backburner? Just how many projects ya'll work on? It's got to slow things down a bit.

Most important things what kind of fetishes will you add in the game

Badaxe

If I may ask, how many people are currently working on Project Uprising and how many on Arenus? Are people working on both projects side by side or did you split the team?

RazRazor

It's not 3DCG, the game's running in Unity. It's 100% realtime rendered and everything is animated.

Kaliyo

Yup, I'm also sad that you guys turn to 3D. You've been making some of the best games with 2D art, and that was making you stand out, and now you will be just another 3DCG smut developer. But hey, it's just a non-patron opinion. :)

Alternate

It's kinda a mix. Due the slow motion feature you can kinda decide if it's fast paced or more similar to a classic RPG.

Kaliyo

TBH, I'm all about this. The only thing I want to know is if it's action based or is it wait your turn. I'm more of a fan of action RPG's than anything if this is going to fit into that genre..

DJay

I understand your worries, but I can guarantee that won't be the case. This won't be just a 3D Sandbox with some sex animations, the game will launch with proper content. For Arenus: We just need some more time, but we don't want to just "disappear" till it's done and not deliever anything in the meantime. Project Uprising will hopefully be our "next Roundscape".

Kaliyo

Oh. FFS. Arenus is borked? That...really sucks to hear. It was looking awesome. =/ Now I'm guessing it's 'whenever it's ready'. If that happens. As for Uprising....Meh? Sorry, you folks make some great games, but folks touting that they're making 3D H games are everywhere. Some have been going on for years, with barely any progress. So I hope it'll be good, but I'm not...really enthused.
