Convoy flagships. Aren't you forgetting any battleship that might have been escorting a convoy? If there was an admiral aboard, would he have been in charge of the escorts, or would the escorts be separate? Even carriers turned out to be surprisingly difficult to sink. Look at Midway.

Therefore should such childhood disease s come aboard a ship in the age of sail it would probably have a serious effect on the survival of a good proportion of the crew. Regards
