Working Out The Kinks

Yesterday was a little rough for me. I realized that I had been cutting corners when it came to creating work that people enjoyed. It was never my intention to make half ass'd work. Lots of my frustration with trying the painterly style versus the older style was in how to keep the energy present in the sketches while also creating a polished and finished look. What I ended up with was something sadly unrealized.

So today I've spent most of the day rethinking and working on my method. This sketch will be the new ground work for experimenting and establishing a consistent look that I enjoy and also enjoy doing. Expect to see some progress pieces later and into the early hours of the morning here. I'm likely going to end up using an older method, incorporate properly colored line work and a softer cell shading method. It's going to look really clean and I think it's going to impress. That's my goal.

I know you'd all like to see different characters at this point and the other projects you paid for but I can't move forward until I get this right. We'll all be happier in the end once I know I've found a method that makes me want to create until my hand aches, so that's what I'm going to do.

Also, thank you to everyone that chimed in and gave their opinions on the most recent post. It helped me to re-evaluate my work. That's something I was sorely lacking in the past.

Bubbles is gonna go Hard on that BBC...God I love your Bimbo characters!!!

3DXAddict

Where'd you go??

MeltedWhiteBrain

totally agree!!

Jam Max

Honestly either your old art style, your new or if you transition to an even newer style your art work is still dynamite. Dont judge yourself your amazing thats why we all support you.

Bro, me personally see nothing wrong with your art style now at all. I love it just as much as your past masterpieces. It stands out above the rest and all I can say is you do whatever helps your creative mojo... Love the artwork

I think one of the interesting aspects of the anatomy in his drawings is that makes no sense, but the proportions work so well anyway. Take this sketch for instance. It looks like she would be able to fit her ankle in her eye socket, but due to the way the whole thing works together it's not even a concern. Same goes for the girls taking on dicks that are as wide as their waist and forearms.

ImpoCreative

as long as you are happy with the style you choose to use, I think the rest of us will be happy as well

There are many great artists out there on the internet, but to me you're the only one that made me jump at the sound of you having a Patreon where I could support you. I can't really think of any other artists that are able to draw the style that you do. Sure, I've seen people try to emulate it, but your feel for values, form, and likely days, months, and years spent studying really shines through your best work. It really means a lot to me how focused you are on making sure people who pay you are getting their money's worth. At the same time, you're the one running this show, I want you to take care of yourself and to take things at a healthy pace. Know when to progress. Trust us to understand. Have fun and do as good as today lets you do!

Pit, you're killing it man. I like all the styles and these characters rock. You're a master of anatomy and story telling. With the dozens of characters in he multiples projects you've begun, there will definitely be something for everyone. I say go for whatever style inspires you. I would actually be interested to see comics combining multiple line-art/"sketchy" approaches. Why not?

Glad you found peoples input constructive, I didn't chime in my self because one of the very first comments summed up what I thought better then I could! Been a fan of your work for several years now and awesome to watch it evolve! Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what comes next!

:) Still shocked you turned down the cintiq. :) Glad it is still working for you though! :)

MichaelS

Hey Michael! Long time no see. I appreciate your generosity with the tablet. It's still kicking ass and taking names.

Pit-erotic

Awesome stuff. :) Pit, you are a really gifted and talented artist, heck you scanned, inked and colored that pool party picture while trying to explain to me how to do it in what, an hour? was amazing. I am happy to be able to help support you in this venture and am sure that you will find your 'balance' with style.

MichaelS

I've been a fan of your work for a long while now, and I have and continue to enjoy it in all its variations; your signature is clearly your own no matter how it has been honed over the years. While I certainly have my own personal preferences in terms of where I think your style works best, it is your artistic evolution. I am simply happy to be along (and support you) on the journey.

TheLibraryClark

That's what I'm talking about, that's The Pit I remember.

Space Banker

Man, I loved your work in every incarnation. From the reworking of the original John Persons to the new super bimbo work. As long as you work I will like it. I will pledge or buy what ever you sell man.

I don't really thing the 'style' your art is that important. I, personally, don't mind you experimenting and just producing work that interests you. Your base skills are strong enough; solid anatomy and proportions, good gesture, solid posing and acting, good grasp of color and modeling, etc; that no matter what style you present your work in it's all uniformly attractive.

I'm an artist myself, so I can understand the frustration that comes from being constantly unsatisfied with your own work, but I think it'd be very hard for you to disappoint any of your patrons with anything less than just not producing content. I'm less invested in the specific content you produce than I am in you just producing content. So feel free to experiment; put up sketches, use different styles; painterly, cel-shaded, B/W linework, etc etc. until you find a medium that you are both satisfied and comfortable with.

ForeShadow

All of the stylistic examples you presented were pretty boss, but I'm sure everybody will enjoy the content in the style you're happiest working in.

Exactly! Well said.

I've got to admit that I liked all of the examples you've shown. I also believe that they all have a place, and you could make use of the different styles depending on what you're working on. Your Sci-Fi comic had a style that seemed more tailored towards your older drawing style, others might fit the softer approach.

CWilliams

So glad you're improving your "old style" There were a lot of rumors going around regarding you when JP released new PIT art but it looked different yet similar. Some thought you had died or retired but JP needed you so "Pit" was simply a moniker that had been passed down. Others said they didn't like your new style while many vehemently defended you. It was weird tbh.

When I first backed this Patreon, I figured it'd just be a few images/scenes posted a month and that's it. Got to say, I'm loving how involved it is instead. It's good to hear all these plans and see these WIPs and I genuinely look forward to what results form them.

Ironically, I have always felt the "painterly" style accomplished exactly what you described as wanting. It felt more polished & honesty IMO felt like higher quality work.

Joshua Campbell

Doesn't she look so delightful? =)

Hammertyme

Same here. Any of the 3 exhibited styles in the previous post would rock the casbah.

Hammertyme

No matter what you do I know people will love it because you have the Midas touch when it comes to art. Keep doing what you do best!

LilCudi23

HOLY SHIT! She looks amazing! I really love all your work. Whatever style you do is good for me...I would say this is fantastic though!

This new sketch looks fucking sweet by the way!

John Doe

Dude, your shit is awesome. Do whatever is gonna make you happy and also be able to get content out there. I'm not gonna complain because I'm impressed with all of it. Thank you for your incredible talent.

John Doe

Well we definitely can't complain about all these kickass updates. I haven't been this excited in years! Glad to see the following continue to grow here too. =D

Hammertyme
