SSS-Rank Chaos Mage Chapter 14: Look who is here

The next morning, Noah found himself seated on the campus bus that took the students outside. Though he couldn't make up his mind yesterday, there was only one thing he wanted to do when he woke up this morning, and he decided to do just that, no matter how risky it was.

He stared out the bus window with conviction as the scenery blurred past him rapidly. Before he realized it, the campus bus had already reached the city centre. He was once again not able to observe any part of the city or the world.

“One of these days, I should take my time and explore the city a bit.” Noah let out a sigh and started getting down after the students in front of him got down first.

It seemed that some of the students had even recognized him, because they turned around and gave him derisive glances. “Ah. I am too famous for my own good.” Noah simply waved back at these guys and kept walking on.

A few feet away was the business sector, where the various guild offices were located. Noah walked around, taking in the view of the city.

It was quite intimidating to look at from the outside, as the entire place seemed to be filled with tall, dazzling skyscrapers, one after the other.

Different types of futuristic-looking cars and motorbikes lined the street, and everything moving on the road was going at an ultra-high speed. The place was also extremely clean and neat, and the people around were impeccably dressed in tip-top attire.

Noah curiously observed everything around him as he entered the main gate of the guild he had in mind, the Star Haven guild. This was where most of the students from his academy usually registered as adventurers. So he decided to do the same.

The guild building was another skyscraper building with about 100 or more floors. The place he wanted to visit was luckily on the ground floor itself, along with the other basic administrative offices.

Noah walked over to the room designated for new adventurers, and just like he had hoped, the woman manning the registration desk did not spare him a second glance as she quickly finished the registration process. All she needed was his academy ID card, which he promptly gave her. The entire process only took about a minute.

“You are set. Good luck.” The woman mechanically answered.

“Thanks.” Noah received his ID card, and there was also another card. It was his adventurer’s card. It was a simple black card with the same photo as his ID, and on top of it, the letter F was printed. “So I am an F-rank adventurer, huh.”

“Yes. For now, you are only able to access the Tier 0 strongholds.” The woman explained and waved him off, signaling for him to get out of the room.

Noah nodded and walked to the end of the building, which had a huge signboard in the front - Teleportation portals. This was his next destination. He entered the big hall to check it out and was instantly amazed by the dazzling teleportation portals. Different spheres of swirling energy, each with a unique color, were present in the hall.

"Hello, sir. Welcome.” A woman rushed forward to welcome him. Noah dazedly handed her the card, and naturally, the woman’s expression changed. “You can use the first portal. Since you are an F-Rank adventurer, you are only eligible to use that.” She curtly informed.

Noah bitterly smiled at the change in her disposition, but he did not care. He was finally here. He rubbed his hands in anticipation as he walked toward the first portal, which was white in color.

“Here goes nothing.” He entered the portal after taking a deep breath. The next second, he found himself at the city wall. “What the hell?” Noah gaped at the huge black wall that was sprawled out in front of him. The politicians back home on earth would have probably drooled at this sight.

It was a thick, tall, and sturdy wall, buffed by several magical barriers. Noah had read about this before, but this was his first time seeing it in person, and it was majestic. This was a wall built to keep out the dangerous beasts and monstrous creatures that roamed the lands outside the city.

When the void gates first began appearing, most of the land on the planet became unusable, run rampant by dangerous beasts. Only in the last few decades have human beings slowly claimed back some territories, one after another.

The history of the planet was rather rich, but Noah paid attention to only the things that were important to him. One of these important tidbits was about these strongholds. Outside every main city, there were some strongholds established.

These strongholds were classified into different tiers based on the level of danger in the zone. The stronghold that Noah was currently planning to step into was one of the Tier 0 strongholds.

This was mostly a place for weaker and less experienced adventurers to train. Other than a few weaker beasts, it should be about as safe as the city inside.

The government and council only gave permission for these Tier 0 strongholds because so many weaker adventurers died or got severely injured when they went straight to Tier 1 strongholds.

Noah planned to use this same training tool for his purpose. He looked for the gate in the wall and took his first step inside the Tier 0 stronghold.

“Alright. Here we go. Finally, I have the privacy I need. No eyes. No ears, and I can train as much as I want. Time to start my experiments.” Noah grinned and walked deeper into the stronghold territory.

But he had only barely taken a couple of steps forward when he heard a familiar voice behind him. "Look who is here."
