Hidden Potential (Intro)

Today we will be looking at the intro for Hidden Potential. This riff is in the key of Bb which stands for Badass. I don't know what the second b stands for though. There's a strong detective feel to this riff - look out James Bond!

Just to provide a little more context here - this scale uses the 5th pentatonic position (not starting on 5th fret, but rather the position which starts on the 5th note of the scale). It looks like this:

-------------------------4-6-
---------------------4-6-----
----------------3-6----------
-----------3-6---------------
------4-6--------------------
-4-6-------------------------

Of course, this riff only uses the bottom 2 strings, but it does fit into this larger skeleton. There's 2 additional notes added throughout - E (7th fret 5th string) and A (5th fret 6th string). The former (E) is known as the blues note - an optional note that can be added to any pentatonic scale to make it sound bluesy. The latter (A) is just a chromatic passing tone between the lowest 2 notes of the scale. Basically, if 2 notes are 2 frets apart you're always welcome to use the connecting middle note as long as it is only in passing and you don't stay on it for too long.

TAB is attached. Enjoy!

I just want you to know, your Patreon name is inspirational

I keep hitting the 6th fret twice and the 4th once. I'll get it right eventually, I got a different song in my head.

Cool, and good. Excited for more of this song. Thanks, my pal from anotha gal(axy).

I've said before that the genres of your music are songs to smite evil to, songs to explore a crystal cave to, and songs to outrun the space cops to--I think this is a subgenre of the latter, songs to outSNEAK the space cops to. Excellent! And a bonus botany lesson, as well! You truly contain multitudes, Lord Phibbis Phibbis Phibbis :)

Oh, I get it! It's the same shape as the 5th pentatonic position is in E, just transposed to start on the Ab instead! And with all downstrokes for maximum badassary. :D

That was in October... but happy belated thanksgiving!

Badass badass. Makes sense!

On this Thanksgiving day, I'm thankful for these sick riffs. Really interested in the verse/chorus sections of this song and the funky chord structures used.

Just to clarify: I believe the second b in Bb ALSO stands for badass, but in lower case! Thanks for another great lesson! I'll definitely practice this one.

Happy Thanksgiving, Mr. Robot Sir!

Hey man, what kind of camera do you use?
