Ninja Sex Party - Release The Kraken (Verse)

Was digging around today and found some older lessons, and I figured I should probably get around to posting them! Here's one for Release the Kraken by NSP.

This is a palm muted part - the idea here is to lay low for the verses, and open things up during the choruses. I basically take 2 notes from each chord and lay low with them. The chords are as follows:

D major - C major - G major
D major - C major - G major
D major - C major - G major
F major - G major - F major - G major

Things do start to open up for the last line of F and G chords - the palm mutes end and there's a few simple 3 note figures that transition one chord to the next.

This repeats twice, and the second time there's a big juicy A major chord added at the end to really build the anticipation up as we transition into the chorus. I do a pick slide here, this one is pretty easy to explain - take the side of your pick and slide it along the thick lower strings. You'll get this sound: S'WAHHHAHHAHALKSJDF

I also want to take about the time signature here. It's pretty weird and confusing. I don't think about it too much but just listen to the vocals for cues on when to switch from one part to another. But listening to the song right now and attempting to count along, here's the best I could come up with:

4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4, 4/4

4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 7/8, 7/8, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4

Are you still with me?

Nice.

Check out the attached TAB for all those sweet fret numbers to pop your fingers down upon.

Thanks Roger!

Hah! 3/4! Good catch!

4/3 time signatures? :)

Rockin'! Long overdue, but the guitar work on The Prophecy is fantastic! Can't wait to see it (and Over the Top) live, whenever that may be...

I think the most coherent contribution I can make to this discussion is: WHOA PICK SLIDE *COOL* :)

Shiro

I know right! They feel pretty natural so they don't jump out as being odd. It just kind of flows.

I think that's pretty close!

Very Important Super Urgent Mega Relevant question: can you explain, using the same method as above, exactly what sound sliding the pick on the thick strings of my bass would produce? Is it a shahajajawjaksmszk or more like a brvraahaahhhahahsb?

I never would have realized all of the different time signatures. Very cool!
