AD-Free Episode 511 - Wet and Sloppy Saturday Night

NOTE: I know I've got some patreon direct messages I need to respond to and I will be getting to that soon! (likely early tomorrow due to some family scheduled stuff today)

On this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast, Elliot (@yankeegunner) is joined by Paul (@poznaninmypants) and Clive (@clivepafc) to breakdown what went wrong at a very wet Amex on Saturday night. They cover the extent to which the conditions mattered, and some individually sloppy performances that made life difficult. There’s analysis of why Arsenal couldn’t play out from Brighton’s pressure, the extent to which Arsenal went long, and the execution issues in midfield. The group discusses Xhaka’s absence as well. There’s a debate about the substitutions and praise for the center backs. Lastly, the Liverpool-City match is discussed as it relates to the level Arsenal aspire to reach. All that and more on this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast.

Btw, The 5 subs in place in Europe Clive

Nice pod as always! Flying over from Holland to see all the pod maestros and listeners next week! Looking forward to some nice chats about the game and our club! 😊

Ohh Clive I totally agree with odegaard operating deeper, sometimes in a 2 as the xhaka lefty. Might be a shock to his system initially, but he’s really got the Toni kroos about him, I believe he can do it

Talking Arsenal v Brighton, did anyone catch the U23 game? Now I like Flo Balagun and think he’s got a great future but the way he plays in these games is a bit off. I mean he’s got the skills but I can’t see someone like Arteta moving him up if he keeps up the tricks and stupid penalties. Patino, Hutchison Salah etc treat these matches with respect but I think Flo feels he’s above these games. What ya reckon?

Great discussion on a game that left little to cheer about from an Arsenal perspective. I wonder are you not giving Brighton enough credit here? Their game wasn’t just about pressing high and winning the duels. They were technically quite good in possession from what I remember. They make playing out from the back look easy, and their interplay in the final third was great, just lacking that final ball or finish in the box (or maybe it was our good defending in the box) Anyhow just a minor gripe on an otherwise pretty bang on analysis…. and something to look out for in the rewatch 👀

I think that’s a misread of his point as I remember it. I think he very specifically makes the point that the difference in quality at the end of moves is substantial.

PIMP comparing our 11 to LFC is just embarrassing levels of delusion.

The conditions also made it suicide to play in the air. Was tough conditions against an organised team. Hopefully we do better next time. Really enjoyed the analysis of where the clubs we aspire to be are at. This felt like the summer for Liverpool to start thinking about getting in the heirs to sane and Salah. Their age cliffs are approaching

IMO playing out from the back in those conditions on an "off day" would have been suicide. I'd rather us go long than get the ball turn over in or around our 18yard box off a goal kick.
