Matt Spiro on William Saliba

Elliot is joined by French football commentator and author of Sacre Bleu: From Zidane to Mbappe, Matt Spiro (@Mattspiro) to discuss William Saliba. The conversation covers the signing, his first loan season in France, his challenging start to life at Arsenal, his subsequent loan back to France, and where it goes from here. Plus there’s a very brief discussion of Matteo Guendouzi.

We've got a special group of young players at the club -- including Saliba -- and I fear Arteta is the wrong coach to capitalize on the opportunity. Hope I'm wrong.

Get him in the squad, put your arm around him and make him feel wanted. The boy has real talent. Saliba + Gabriel as CBs = Bash Brothers

Cant believe the club thought he wasn't read for the premier league so they sent him for another 1/2 year abroad. What sort of logic is that

guendouzi has all the traits that you dislike Ceballos for. Lightweight jogger.

I'd like to see what Saliba can do. Is Arteta himself ready for the Premier League? His arrogance is so annoying considering what he has achieved this season. Thanks for the guest, very refreshing!

Nice to freshen the pod up with special guests every so often! Interesting chat from Matt on this one. Thumbs up!

I thought about this too. Let's hope he personally enjoys the season.

Shameful what we have done with Saliba. The guy reportedly signed on a 5 year contract and spent the first two years on loan. Assuming he does return and play for us next season we then approach the murky 2-years remaining territory, will he want to stay given how he's been treated?

So epic! I saw the tweet inviting him. Really great stuff 👏
