Page 8 & Single Panels
Added 2024-10-25 04:01:39 +0000 UTCI told myself I'd get this finished and posted today and so I'm gonna get it posted today.
I think I'm happy enough with this one. It was hard work but we're finally out of the Monorail, and I can finally get our pair to Owens! I can't wait. Honestly a little daunted by it too? I keep rewriting the next page, even though it's the least important thing.
Things I was really happy about? Judys Face is workkkkkking for me in a lot of this. Nick's attitude and playfulness, feels good too. Stuff I wish I'd improve on; background colors that aren't just gradients, or 'muddy grey/browns'. Would have been cool to get more of you backers a cameo too, but I was really feeling the time crunch, and just wanted to push through with made up folk.
Tomorrow I'll take a peek at some comics and do some research for a door opening scene; see if there are any good layouts I can lean on, as I don't reallllly know how to do such a simple scene, and keep it interesting. It'll be fun to explore.
Deeply thankful for all of your patience with these Monorail pages! It was hard work, and I can at least say I've TRIED IT.
Hope you all dig it! About ONE more week to Locktober! Who here's still making it happen? Who here dropped out? LET ME KNOW - truly it delights me to hear about =D
OH and before I forget - I corrected the previous page to have wedding rings in the right places! Whoops!

Like... how does the Blacksad guy get away with having so much noise - but keeping it all... focused and flowing. Theres, so much left for me to learn; and I worry the gradients are a crutch! Really appreciate that you see the effort Wolf - it came at such a time-suck of a price. But I'm really happy to have TRIED, you know? Like I didn't shy away; and tried to tackle it head on. I feel proud of that. SO very ready to draw some sex tho, haw! Let's get them into that apartment and then get this show rolling.

In all honesty, I think the simple gradients are a plus: if you had loaded more detail on in the backgrounds, it would have been too noisy visually. This way you've got enough to give a sense of place, they aren't just talking in the void for several panels, and that nice bounce of detail at the end works well because it's a lull in the action, we're supposed to linger there a bit before going to the next page. If it was movie we'd stay on the wide shot a moment before cutting. But before we get there we're not distracted by too much visual info. Always impressive how much you keep pushing yourself to try new things; as an artist there's definitely always that pull to just stick with what you know, but that's a good way to stagnate fast. BUT, now that you've shown us these luscious few pages, I think a return to something a LITTLE more simple and familiar is well-earned.
