Pages 1-5 Roughs
Added 2024-02-25 23:30:41 +0000 UTCI'm sick as a dog this weekend with a regular - keeping me down for the count cold. So not much typing to go with the update.
Really wanted to get you all the roughs for the first 5 pages this week! I feel kinda... frustrated and happy at the same time, with a lot of these. Some work super well for me, and others feel same-y and the poses/camera is maybe repetitive. But I was struggling with throwing the camera around, as it was sort of killing the conversation so ... I dunno. Maybe my brain is not up to the task this week, and maybe I'll revisit these pages as I go.
I expanded the start ever so slightly with an exterior zooming-in-shot to establish and ditched the idea of keeping the cage reveal for later - turns out I can't wait to draw it, and I know YOU want to see it too ;D Plus... I just couldn't fathom how to do these pages without some reveal. Plus... it enhances intimacy? That moment your partner locks you up is POWERFUL and I didn't want to miss that, by trying to hide things.
After these pages, I'll do a fast-into-the-metro page and then pick up the story from there. Cut some space down a bit by leaping from the metro straight to the front door of Owens I think.
For style - I'm thinking I want something between what I was doing for the QnA, and the last chapter? But I'll see how that feels once I start this next week.
Ok you guys I'm gonna go back to bed, and hope to feel better tomorrow.
OH! And I made a SketchUp for the exterior of Judy and Nicks! Was happy with this one!
And a question for the higher-tiers; What do we think - should Judy and Nick be partially clotehd in this scene? Naked? Underwear? I can't figure it out....
Also maybe it's the cold but... I love the idea of giving Judy a glass butt-plug that has a small-knot-shape =D

For the shirt, I feel like Nick would be the forever casual, so either a classic hawaii shirt, buttoned, or an open buttoned shirt and a logo shirt underneath (maybe just with a door lock printed on it) or.. OR from some artist called Paul Lovelock or stuff. I can see Judy wearing knee high socks, too. Although footwear is kinda rare in zootopia

Yeha moving the reveal here into the early pages feels sensible, but it does pull a little away from later - I think it's ok to be less precious about it though, and doing it here earlier gives Nick and Judy a intimacy moment that's important =)

I might change up the 2nd page; so the reveal is a little more 'nick on display' and maybe add a panel in before it; I'm not sure the panel looking at the shopping bags quite does what I wanted it to do. I think they're trying out the latest purchases before a big date... Half way through the dressing moment? I might do Judy in lingerie, and Nick in an open shirt? or nude? But it might be more power to keep the 'nude' nick for later in front of Owen...

Really enjoying these so far, especially the first few; think you have a really fun dynamic going there with how things are laid out, the expressions, everything. Seems decent overall too, though I can understand if you want to refine the last few a bit more. Probably a better bet doing the cage reveal now, and I don't think it deflates that moment: this is the reveal to US, that's the reveal to OWEN. So it's still a really fun moment, and now you have two instead of one.
