so far, the playtesting discord has turned out pretty great! it's been cool to get the game into people's hands, even at this mega-early state, and get feedback on things i did right and things that need more tweaking! i think at this point i'm fairly committed to foxhood and confident i can get that demo out by june this year!
so here's what i spent my time on this week: i added a cute little "mini-dialogue" system for enemies and various other things to use when i want to add a little character to something!

i mostly finished the area's first boss: this big ol cat! it's not really plot relevant, i just thought the way you encounter it is funny and surprising + it should be an interesting shake-up to the gameplay!
i got the foundation down for the "racing" mechanic where you race a little guy for a max health upgrade! if you beat him, you get to race against a much harder "dev time" for some extra money! this one was cool to put together because i basically made a system to record my player behavior to a file, then play it back in-game in the form of the guy you race against!
the last major new feature is i put together this neat little system for cutscenes, it's gonna WAY cut down the amount of time i have to spend on making them since i won't have to code every little movement by hand! it turned hundreds of lines of code down to just this.. it'll save me days of work in the long run and it only took a few hours to set up!
also, foxhood now has a composer! i asked one of my friends if they wanted to do the music for at least the demo, and they said yes, so here we are with the first couple of songs for the game featured in the video above! the only placeholder song is the one for the shop, which is from Wario Land 4!
less glamorous stuff includes various bugfixes and tweaks, as well as adding full controller support to the current build, but overall great progress has been made this week! and a big thank you to everyone who stopped by the playtesting discord, especially those who playtested the first build and gave their feedback, it's been a big help and boost in motivation!
