sunday general update! potentially returning to an old concept!

progress had been made this week on "fella kart" though i feel a bit bad about working on it at the moment because i feel it's not really what i want to do or showcase, especially for patreon, i want to do something more substantial! i'm not sure how well the "crazy weirdo" animation is working out because its ultimately being done in the same working style as my older animations which just doesn't work well with me nowadays, it takes far too long with the way i like to draw now and generally makes it very unfun to animate. that's where a new (and old) idea comes in!

something i keep meaning to do with my animations is trying to draw much rougher in a way that lends itself much more to expressiveness and what i feel to be interesting movement.. i have a bad habit of just leaning into my usual muscle memory and thought process behind animating that i really need to break. so! the plan for this week: animation! there's two things i want to try, first of which (if the second idea doesn't work out) is trying to finish the "crazy weirdo" animation with these new animation mentalities in mind, so i can realistically finish the darn thing! the second thing i'd like to try is a return to "nothing for nothing"! not the "nothing for nothing" you've all probably come to know over my turbulent time working on the concept, but the old "nothing for nothing" from 2021! specifically, the time period of the same series that involved these guys:

it was pretty crazy looking compared to the other stuff i was making at the time that was much lighter in tone, like "spring cleaning"! it's all still "nothing for nothing", it's just that the miniseries i was working on through 2023-2024 was technically a sequel series that takes place 100 years after this one! for a while, this was going to be the prequel series to what i've been working on in 2023-2024, but i feel that the 2023 iteration was much too large of a scale to work on by myself, and i lack the proper experience to make something i'm happy with since it was more focused on dialogue and character interactions compared to this 2021 iteration.

so what's my plan with all of this? i want to return to the 2021 iteration with a new method in mind! i want to return to it with the new, rougher style of animation, as well as condense what was going to be "episode 1 of the 2021 iteration" into a briefer scene that makes up the intro to "episode 2 of the 2021 iteration", episode 2 being something i've wanted to work on for a really long time! thankfully this also means that my work in 2021 won't go to complete waste, since i can re-use a lot of the cooler shots i animated at the time in that little condensed version of episode 1!

these past 2 years have been a really rough trial in terms of figuring out what i am and am not capable of doing now that some pretty bad mental illness has set in during my adult life in contrast with my ambitions, but i'm at the point where everything's done developing and i can get the treatment i need; i've had enough trial and error at this point to finally settle on what i believe i can actually do and finish! i'm very grateful to everyone who's stuck around this patreon through all this time, i hope to make that time worth it! realistically i don't expect this to go that smoothly, if my prior experience with this sort of thing lately has been any indication, but what i'm hoping for is something i can confidently stick to and enjoy making, which means something i can finish!

that said, these next 2 weeks or so may go a good bit slower than i'd hoped because health complications has me off of adderall for the time being (a Very Essential medication for some people with ADHD like me), but if anything i see that as a way to test in its rawest form what does and doesn't work with my upcoming animation plans.. here's to something!
