Also let us know how you feel about us potentially doing DEATHNOTE in dub? We'll see πŸ˜‚ I'm sad its over but this was truly one of the best and most unique experiences and I'm glad we got to share it with ya'll 😭😭

ATTACK ON TITAN: THE LAST ATTACK | EXTENDED WATCH

Comments

Im not a person who cries easy. I'll get teary eyed but never full on bawl... but the first time I watched the last hour long special, from the point that Jean and Conny are standing there together before turning into Titans and on, I was full on bawling lmao Yes I know im a month late.

The anime adaptation really worked to dispel the "everything was predetermined line" AoT basically follows the philosophy of "compatibilism" so just google the philosophy on that to explain whats going on. Glad to see someone else that loves Historias monologue at the end. I also love that Historia always mirrored Ymir Fritz and it was Ymir's child that was the first birthed into the world of titans and Historia's child was the first to be birthed after. Its also important to note the official AoT website confirms the "See you later" Mikasa scene is canonically the first event of the story seeming to indicate Eren may be sent back through time over and over to be with his friends or foreshadowing an eternal paths connection where eren is omnipresent in the paths.

The moment you realize Armin was the narrator because the whole time he was telling the story to the global peace conference. Go back to the first few episodes and see Armin even describes the setting as if he is re-telling a past story.

Some things to note: 1) The epilogue called back to the AOT high comics that came at the end of the mangas. Goth Mikasa, Nerd Armin, and Bored Eren have been watching the story along with us the whole time. Plus there are a bunch of cute callbacks in that scene. Marco being half-dead (hah) in the background, Udo and Zofia being alive. Levi being a janitor the way he is in the comics but still maintaining his spinny tendencies. Ymir with her three daughters walking in the background. Niccolo's restaurant. It's very wholesome. 2) About the dime a dozen idiot thing: I adore how Eren was written. It took me a re-watch or two to piece together, but it isn't that fate was predetermined so that 80% of humanity would die no matter what. And it wasn't necessarily that Eren was happy about or eager to kill humanity either. Hell, when he had to come to terms with it the first time, it broke him. He denied it at every corner up until the one that mattered. It was not for those reasons the world was flattened. But because Eren was, and always would be, a slave to *himself*. His own ideals. His own weaknesses, hopes, personality, beliefs. (He was the only one in the show TRULY not free, purely because of who he was. In that, he was a tragedy.) 80% of humanity was trampled BECAUSE the power of the founder landed in Eren's hand. He was a dime a dozen idiot, in his own words. The world's fate was sealed the moment Eren gained the power of the founder. For no other reason than the fact that it was a property of who Eren was as an individual. He would never have let Paradis crumble for the sake of the world. He would have never chosen the morally correct, objectively less destructive answer. He was always going to choose the one that protected his loved ones, no matter how aggressive it was, no matter how many punches he had to swing, or to who they were swung at. Even if he never wanted to kill humanity, he saw no other ways than that. And sure, there may have been other ways, technically speaking. But Hange and the military couldn't provide him with ones he could accept. Neither could Zeke. Neither could Armin. Mikasa's outcome was the only other possibility, purely because it was Mikasa's, but she hid her feelings from him, so that outcome never came to pass. In the end, Eren destroyed the world for the same reason he chose to chase after those bullies that ate the bread Armin bought way back in Season 2. For the same reason he killed the people that were trying to traffic Mikasa and her mother. It didn't matter if the battle had already been decided, or if he was going to lose, he was going to keep fighting. No matter the collateral. 3) The entire story is narrated by Armin's VA in both Sub and Dub, with a few exceptions (notably, in Midnight Sun, where the narrator is absent. Probably because he's sun baking on a roof for the entire episode). It's just as Armin said, no one could kill the heroes of the world outright. Because who else would tell this story but them? Who else would tell US this story, but Armin? 4) Historia's line at the end is such a good proverb for humanity and its cycles. "If we must fight, let it be for an end to fighting." We resort to violence. Sometimes for reasons we hope are good, sometimes not. But we continue to push through, because on some distant, blanket level, we hope. Even if we don't believe it, even if it isn't realistic, we hope that one day we won't ever have to fight again. Of course, that reality hasn't ever come to pass, and may never will. But that doesn't change that core belief. Or our drive. Humanity may be driven by/in the pursuit of violence, but it is also always underscored by hope. They are two sides of the same, human coin. 5) Speaking of hope and violence- for the first epilogue scene: While this is mainly a theory of mine, "life", the Hallucigenia-worm that was trying to claw it's way back to Eren, the thing that turned Ymir into a titan, if it IS in that tree (because that's where Eren's grave lies and that's where the worm may be) there is no guarantee it'll result in titans once more. The reasons titans came about was because Ymir had wished for a stronger body, an immortal one, one that could protect her, one that was more horrifying than those pursuing her, than her life had ever been up until that point. True as it may be that the cycle will continue, it does not necessarily have to be violent. We move through many diff cycles. Perhaps this last one was of war, maybe this future one will be kinder than that? Maybe not. Maybe it'll look like titans, maybe it'll look like a cure for radiation sickness, maybe it'll look like a well of water that never dries up, maybe it'll look like something far worse than titans. But I like the idea that though the cycle is inevitable, and will never end no matter what, it does not ever have to look the same. Because we are not one dimensional creatures, and this is not a one dimensional world (ignoring that this is a 2d animation lol). Thank you guys for taking us on this journey with you!! I can't wait to see what you have in store in the future :)

A anime suggestion - Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood!

Please don’t watch death note in dub 😩

the countless parallels and callbacks to season 1 make this finale even more emotional 😭 especially at the end there, when armin convinced the marleyan soldiers pointing their guns, that eldians are humans. he did the same thing for eren when that cowardly garrison commander threatened them with a firing squad. armin is always the one trying to bring about change, and that part about him never changes. the odm gear animations are exceptional, especially levi and mikasa. he still managed to do aaalll that with 1 eye, 2 fingers gone, and a possibly shattered kneecap 😭 i love this crew, i love the scouts, and most importantly i absolutely love the story. aot will always have a special place in my heart. idk if anything can top it

Tabatha Arria

yes to all of the above

Death note is a GREAT followup anime and is a classic starter anime imo I'd also consider demon slayer for some good animation and active hype (with the latest movie coming out) or violet evergarden for a short but beautifully animated and stunningly written in-betweener show.

Please watch demon slayer it won’t disappoint!!
