MONSTERS [2x7] | EXTENDED REACTION

Oh boy. Lyle takes the stand. A ton more conflicting info in this one though. I love the performances and all with this show but I get more and more interested in the fact vs fiction department. And who tf is Norma?

MONSTERS [2x7] | EXTENDED REACTION

Comments

The crazy thing in the 90’s the brothers were widely believed to be faking their abuse allegations. Retrospectively from a 21centuary lens many psychological profiles of the boys proved that they had all the hall markers of abuse. But in the 90’s the prosecution and public labeled the brother’s allegations as the “abuse excuse” and argued that “men could not be raped as they do not possess the necessary gear”. There were LOADS of family members/teachers/doctors/doctors reports and psychologists that corroborated elements of abuse they had noticed which built an overall horrifying picture. There were QUITE LITERALLY naked pictures taken by Jose (the dad) of the boy’s genitalia. Which was disgusting as they showed them to everyone in court. And recently there has been more evidence with people coming forward of being abused by Jose including members of ‘Menudo’ a boyband under Jose’s record label at the time. As well as letters the Erik had written about the abuse to his cousin etc… Like in addition to Murphy’s strange incestuous sexualisation of the brothers together (which their is 0 proof of). Lyle’s caricature in the show is villainously shown to be lying to ‘Norma’ saying “he faked his emotions in court ”. In the real case this never occurred but he did say to Norma that he hoped showing his true emotions in court would help get the jury on the brothers side. I‘ll link here the actual tape of what Lyle said. Which is not Lyle‘s finest moment but was also NOTHING like how the show portrayed Lyle. https://youtu.be/U-2hJIHW1e0?si=29935RdA9NhijUqv Probably the most damming thing Lyle said on the Norma tapes was that if needed to the only reason he would lie is to counter Dr Oziel‘s claims in court but that was him hypothesising to Norma. Also there is NO evidence about Lyle asking people to lie about Jose sexually assaulting them. Interestingly, the prosecution could find 0 witnesses (apart from Jose‘s Secretary) to come and say anything even slightly nice about Jose. Whilst the defence had 50+ witnesses and experts to back them. At the time of their trial, therapists and experts testified that despite being 21 and 18 years old, Lyle and Erik had the emotional and cognitive maturity levels of children aged 8 to 10 (especially when talking about and reliving the abuse in court). Both brothers showcased extreme PTSD whilst talking about the abuse and Erik had to be sedated in general with (Xanax) including when he was testifying in the trial. Erik also since youth was diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder which was proven that his parents knew about but hid from him and his teachers at school… The disorder was sometimes showcased when he was on the stand in trial as sometimes he would have to ask for the question to be re—asked etc… Murphy really just takes a villainous portrayal to the brothers. A-lot of aspects of the case are fudged or embellished. I’d recommend you look into the case in your own time as it is fascinating as it was the first criminal trial for the court proceedings to be aired in real time to the general public.

also, in the phone call with norma lyle said a lot of stuff but in the show they straight up make it seem like he admitted the whole thing was a lie and thats just not true in real life.

the acting in this is phenomenal but you two should for sure watch the documentary and real testimony. they did these boys so wrong with this series. left out so many important facts and they even added things that make it seem like the boys were lying. after doing research it's hard to believe that these boys made it up. it was too real, too detailed, way too specific. i wholeheartedly believe them about the abuse. also they had their cousins as witnesses to abuse and people they told about the abuse.

Kastin Nichol

Honestly think this person (MO) is trolling at this point. They’ve been explained some of the evidence in other comments and just ignores it. They could also do their own research about the abuse or why the case is being reviewed. Unhinged to accuse someone else of bias as they display it.

NoLunch4Lucille

Hope you’re safe down there!

Chrissy

my internet has been out bc of helene but i'm finally back online and catching up on everything and you are so right

ang

Please react to grotesquerie next or when you get the chance pleeeasee!! 🫶

Noah Kosta

I second this for sure 😁

Noah Kosta

bro there is a ton of evidence, I see you keep attacking people in these comments for believing them but there is a mount of reasons for people to believe the brothers. If you don't that's your problem but keep it to yourself instead of being loud about being misinformed because as you said we don't know what happened, that means you don't know either

mya

This is me gently suggesting you watch Grotesquerie…it’s so good

Chrissy

the recordings are real but the real ones aren't that bad they not incriminating. Lyle sounds like a douche and and hes definitely his fathers son but no where on the tapes he admits to lying about the abuse or playing it up for the jury. You can find the Book online you have to pay for it ofc

Amaya

Because the recordings were literally published and Lyle never said that in any of the recordings, nor did Norma say he did. Lyle literally said the opposite, that he couldn’t help but be emotional when testifying because he couldn’t talk about it without being overcome with emotions. The only time he mentions “lying” is him complaining about Oziel lying and saying “I wish I could just lie back, I probably could,” but then says he wouldn’t.

Ophelia

The documentary shows snippets of their testimonies. However you can find the exact testimonies they’re recreating here on YouTube. The show portrayed it wrong, Lyle didn’t have any practice before this testimony, because his attorney wanted as much real emotion as possible.

kei

because you were there and know what he said :D you guys are so biased its sickening. I mean, why would I care about evidence when I get manipulated to the point I belive them everything.

MO

if you are doing a live after the show ends about looking at the trial footage and seeing what’s true or false will you let us know? i don’t want to miss it !

karly

There is plenty of evidence, that’s why it was allowed to be argued in court and why even people not on the defense’s side believed the allegations, just not that “imperfect self-defense” was an “excuse”. Also, like my other comment, there were p*rngraphic photos of them found as children, which FBI agents today have said qualify as CP. That alone is sexual abuse.

Ophelia

how can you say that there was no way it was not real pain? Of course people are able to act like that, what are you thinking? I dont get people that are so biased without any evidence. We dont know what happened, simple as that.

MO

Yeah I feel the documentary showed way more clips of the trail then I thought they would having watched the whole trial.

Iriana F

Another thing, later they show the photos presented this episode. In the show, it shows them as children in underwear, but in the real trial, it was completely naked photos of them. And, very disgusting, Erik seemed to have an erection in the one of him, so definitely photos in a sexual manner. Those pictures alone make me 100% believe them.

Ophelia

A lot of clips of their testimonies are shown in the documentary so either way you won’t miss it!

Mir

It has to be said tho that he was in his 20s and she was older. I think at the time Norma was a friend for him, someone he could confide in, obviously he shouldn't have but the misuse of trust is sad wether or not he should've told her in the first place. He was obviously in a vulnerable way and she abused that trust.

rachael

The insinuation the show makes of Lyle playing it up during the testimony is really disappointing. If you watch the real Lyle on the stand, he was trying to hold it back so much and there was no way it was not real pain and sadness. The fact that these actors, who are really amazing, still couldn't completely convey the real Lyle and Erik's emotions on the stand shows you how real it was.

Ophelia

Absolutely

Chrissy

He said a lot of stuff, but some of the stuff it says in the show, he definitely did NOT say.

Ophelia

Norma is a woman who wrote Lyle while he was in jail. He contacted her and they started a “phone relationship”… but Lyle was being Lyle and saying way more to her than he should have

Chrissy

Never once did I think I would watch a show like this
