Early access to a conversation with Peter Beck

I had the pleasure of sitting and chatting with Peter Beck from Rocket Lab last week on their new launch pad, MARS-OC in Wallops Virginia. I love talking with Peter and I think this conversation will bring a smile to your face!

I think in the long-term SpaceX will end up largely influencing the creation of a (sustainable) "methane-economy". Given the benefits of methane for Mars exploration (in situ resource utilization / propelant fabrication on Mars), and the same fuel being used on Earth for SpaceX's cross-continental hops, I believe that we will see the rise of a global (as well as Martian) infrastructure of methane manufacturing capabilities to supply that demand. I think that the rocket companies that follow the trend will be able to exploit that while other systems (that use other kinds of fuels) will likely struggle with building up their own fuel supply infrastructure.

Hi Tim, I love what you do. For the new year, I have up my monthly contribution. It not a lot but, I believe with all the dimes sent to you, you can and have been doing a super job. A note on today launch, we sometimes forget that success is build on tries and failures of the past. We cannot try something once and get it right all the time. We fail and learn. Some folks think that when we fail, then we need to quit, but thank God that is not the thought for most in this program. Most of us understand that many tries will need to happen before we get the answer. So as you said, lets remember this and keep the faith and encourage our NASA, Space X Boeing folks to keep at it and we will get American rockets carrying American Astronauts back into play. Then onto the Moon, and Mars! PS spend my money well!

Any chance of a follow up question? RL builds the rockets in NZ and engines in California. For US launches will they mate them in NZ, California, or Wallops?

Hi Tim, I loved this interview. Please forgive me for not joining your Patreon page earlier!

Great work - love that these companies are so open to questions and that there's knowledgeable interviewers like you to ask good ones.

Robin Hilliard

What a fantastic interview! Thank you so much Tim for what you do. Always inspiring to me.

Seriously, does Tim ever do a bad interview?

Great interview! Well thought out questions.

Video just went private. I was only half way through and now we can’t watch. Bring it back please.

Great interview, Tim. Not many journalists come with the in-depth background knowledge and sharp technical questions as you. I'm sure Peter Beck enjoyed it as much as you did.

Right at the beginning we can see Peter is comfortable with Tim; when Tim explained about "why don't we just" there was a special smile of appreciation of the concept from Peter. The special Tim Dodd touch on getting an exceptional interview with the top top guys.

Very Good interview Tim, lots' of info there, all good questions. Thanks for you work

Honestly, this is so good!! Just 2 guys, sitting down having a chat. Congrats Tim - I am sure that Peter Beck does not sit down with just "anyone" and shoot the sh*t. Brilliant

What a great interview, such an approachable guy and obviously happy to be talking to you Tim about something you are both passionate aboutπŸ‘πŸ»
