State of the Game / Dev Log Feb 2023

Being a little late for this, I figured I can talk about my dev progress more.

As for why this has been late, I think I just needed a break. I've been sick, tired, and a little burned out. So I just need a few weeks to recoup and get back into focus. Now I feel better and it's given me a chance to think about some of the bugs and story flow.

I've been excited to have the player have access at all times to their quests with the new quest plugin I've been using. It has brought in so...

SoGIV Next Demo Iteration

As from my last state of the game, this was definitely not much farther from the last release. I had to backtrack features that were lost from the corrupted save, and I think I got most of them back in. The key things are some bug fixes, doors at the ship transition points, and blueberry should be working a lot better. The fabricator and making parts is still WIP.

But this also gave me a point to make another backup. I'll get more in for another release soon.

State of the Game - Jan 2023

Oh yeah, definitely almost published this with 2022 on it.

This comes a little later than normal for a state of the game, and for good reason. The last week was a little stressful with thankfully what turned out to be minor setback. Late last year I was able to build a windows machine, which with all the plugins allowed me to debug the game faster in development (MacOS RPGM had an issue that preventing me to run the game quickly in debug mode. Every change I made I had to deploy the en...

SoGIV - Demo Update

On December 12th, I released the very first look at my attempt to take a fresh look and work on a new version of the game that takes everything I've learned so far from the last year of game development. The story and nearly all of the dialog was already there, this was a review of the presentation of it all.

Since then, I was on a full week vacation away from the computer, yet since I'm just adding everything back in, there has been a lot of code in the background put back in. About a...

Secrets of Gaia IV - DEMO

In my December state of the game, I announced that I had started a rebuild of the game, incorporating everything I had learned in the last year for image editing, sound design, and general game development in the RPG Maker engine.

This has also allowed me to look at the main and theme stories, and add them back in so that I can make sure that the content is more even and filled in.

Here is everything that I have added in so far. I'll warn you that this looks like a step bac...

State of the Game - December 2022

November was another tough one. I had released v0.10 to supporters and the main goal still stands. I'm trying to work on the story blockers that are preventing players from getting to the endings, as well as unlocking blueberry content.

I was growing frustrated with how some of these puzzles and bugs persisted in causing problems. Plus there was extra time being spent "hunting" for variables and common events. RPGMaker stores every common event, variable, and switch each in a long...

New names and quick update

In my deployment devlog, I had mentioned working on a studio name to roll the final release deployment under for itchio as well as Steam. I'm letting you know that I'm changing all profiles that I can under the new trade name I've setup. I'll be developing under Rule 34 Games. It also lets me separate development efforts between regular games and adult-themed games.

I've updated the links for itchio and patreon links, and letting you know so that you can adjust for them.

Release Strategy

Yup, coming down to the line. Here we are with only two months left in the year, and I have wanted to release the final version of this game around that time.

Reflecting on all the things that are in the game, I feel like I accomplished a lot. Three expansion themes to choose from. Several maps to explore and gather materials. A story of exploring the planet and learning more about it. The start of a crafting system so as to make new gear and consumables to use during t...

State of the Game - November 2022

October saw a new version and a lot of developments that were exciting to me as a developer and creator for the game. It makes me think about the visibility as a player, and that it probably wasn't very much. I got to see new art assets for blueberry content, but it's not unlocked for players (yet). I got to see new art assets for NPCs, which unlocked a lot of plans that I didn't think were possible, and even planed around because of that. All supporters got to see was a quick cutscene to int...

v0.10

Here's the first look at v0.10.

Referring to my version goals, most of this work was on a combat revamp, as I now have some npc artwork assets to work with. There is some dialog to at least hold up the introduction to it all, but most of the work was around new combat skills, the npc's, strengths and weaknesses, and other mechanics to support this.

Blueberry is still WIP, but the beginning stuff has been done, and will be the focus to get unlocked before the new NPCs are co...

Devlog - v0.10 strategy

v0.9 had a lot of tiny changes to a few bigger goals, and it appears that some of the off topic changes at the very end broke save compatibility. Meanwhile, there are some highly requested features that are art completed that have been pushed back a bit in favor of the needed gaps filled in v0.9.

v0.10 is important to me and I'm excited about for a few reasons. Meanwhile, I feel like I didn't announce my goals and objectives in the beginning of v0.9. So as I've handed off the last upda...

v0.9.6

Here is the last patch for v0.9 and a great launch point for the next content. I'm releasing this to all supporters so that I can focus on the goals for v0.10.

v0.9 had two main goals, and they were mostly accomplished by this point:

A lot of bugs and gaps were filled, with a lot of new dialog and story added in for Preg gameplay. Plus, there were more theme gates added in so that the stories can feel more different from another. These extra gates also help me to add in addition...

v0.9.4 Patch

Considering v0.9 I'm considering story gaps as bugs, this is a small patch for Esteemed Patrons. The change log seems light, more because these adds are scattered all over the place. I'm not done with v0.9 either, so there are likely to be a few patch versions after this one.

State of the Game - October 2022

Development looks a little different again in this stage. I'm not trying for some sweeping overhauls or wave of new features. v0.9 has been just a series of one liner changes and edits scattered across the entire game for story and dialog improvements. I've wanted to update the progress-log more, but most of my changes seem to have more description to what was actually changed in that one spot.

There are still some things I want to and intend to overhaul. Encounters, character abi...

A little spoiler starting to swell up in chat...

In my September "State of the Game" I admitted some frustration with some lost progress from commissions falling through on a couple of possibly new themes.

Well... here's a little spoiler for something that has happened since then.

Seriously, thank the artists for Project Gaia. If you get the chance, I have them all listed in a special channel on discord for easy access for all players. Big thanks to CSMKynes for always making the game even more awesome.

v0.9.2 patch version

A patch version for the Esteemed Patrons, this one handles a few bugs. There is also some new functionality that handles what I consider bugs, which is that the puzzles in the game are poorly explained. In addition to rewriting the dialog around them and the reasons why they should be completed, I've added dialog to ALPHA 6 that provides hints to a few of the main puzzles so far. In addition, I've begun to create additional methods for solving a few. One of those alternatives are currently in...

v0.9.0

Getting back to the normal development cycle. Here is the supporter early access for version 0.9

The full progress-log is in the Discord.

In summary, there was still a big gap between content from each of the two expansion themes in the game. In addition, there was still a lot of bugs and content that was only for weight gain that was in as a placeholder. Version 0.9 in general will be filling in all of those gaps, as well as polish those parts of the content that was supposed t...

State of the Game - September 2022

Project Gaia has now accomplished some goals that I didn't think was possible when I first started the actual game. Meanwhile, it has come a long way from that starting point, which was not that long ago. I started with the concept in about February of this year. The game now has multiple expansion themes in the game, fully illustrated, and with nearly complete stories. The artist for the pregnancy illustrations finished the artwork, and I worked to handle the bugs that came up from having a ...

v0.8.3

As I've talked about in the last state of the game, I had spent a lot of time identifying a list of bugs an unintended behavior when I had unlocked the Pregnancy gameplay. In addition, I had worked on some other pieces that may not be implemented for a while, but also tried exploring some of the other, many plugins that are still included but not utilizing at this time.

All of that took up a lot of time, meanwhile there hasn't been a regular update for anyone in that whole time.

State of the Game - August 2022

First of all, I'm really happy to work with Erronwolf, who has come in to provide writing support for all of the pregnancy dialog. So now all of the expansion stages and anomaly logs for that gameplay is filled. That was a massive amount of content that was very nice to see get put in. That did require some formatting work on my end, which did take a lot of time. Took longer because RPGM is very picky about text formatting, and I was simultaneously trying to put it into the language support a...

v0.8.1

July saw a lot of activity, which helped to contribute to this delay. I'll be happy to explain further in my monthly state of the game. But for this version, there was a lot of writing content to add in. I received some writer's support, so now all of the pregnancy dialog is (99.9%) complete! Another art asset came in for the weight gain, and more work was done for art assets that still haven't come in yet. Plus there are a lot of content in there that is for weight gain that is affecting the...

Happy Independence Day, Americans.

I'm excited to see last month receive the art to unlock the pregnancy gameplay, which means that the game can now support two different gameplay styles. There is still the initial goal to have several other expansion themes with their own story. That's a work in progress, while for right now I'm looking to improve the existing gameplay.

Just as the WG artist was happy to do a special ending cutscene, the Pregnancy artist was happy to do the sam...

v0.8.0

Here it is! This one was tough, for a bunch of great reasons. The Pregnancy expansion style is unlocked! Well, mostly. The artist is finishing the last two pieces, and I wanted to take the chance to work on the mechanics for a while before they finished. This is because it required a new branch of game mechanics.

This is the next big step in one of the main goals for the game, which is to have multiple gameplay styles and flavors for different players. There is still some work to be d...

v0.7.4

Bug hunting is constant.

In this one, I wanted to incorporate some of these puzzles from the earlier maps, and use one to give the opportunity to obtain some items and some dialog for the story. But then there was another bug that prevented some anomalies from showing.

This has some bug fixes, and some things that I was starting on for the next version.

v0.7.3

So in my release last night, I apparently introduced two bugs. Since the first was preventing the engines from being repaired and therefore blocking progress to Act 3 and my new ending, I wanted to get a hotfix out as soon as possible.
