New Patreon Fee System Cancelled

First off, I'm grateful that Patreon exists. Without it, I couldn't make a living doing comics. Before Patreon, I was only able to eek out a comic once a year usually, because I was doing nothing but commissions to barely make ends meet. Patreon literally changed my life.
Now, I also am grateful that Patreon listened to the feedback, admitted they screwed up, and are cancelling the abhorrent new fee system. Not many companies would admit failure like that. Things should continue on as before now that the fees system was canned. I don't think I lost as many pledgers as others did, but I hope they return. The drop in pledges likely had an impact on Patreon's reversal decision.
But lastly and most importantly - YOU are the reason that I'm here, and YOU are the reason Patreon backed off. Creators getting upset is one thing, but there's only so many of us. The flood of emails and tweets from pledgers are what I suspect really pushed them back. Good for you!
I told Patreon that I didn't want you guys to take the hit for these fees. I told them I would rather shoulder any monetary strain. I know many other creators said the same. Their plan triggered a 'mama bear' protective reaction from us. I think Patreon underestimated how loyal we are to you guys. Without you, we're nothing. Patreon is a great platform, but ultimately it would be nothing without the supporters.
So, thank you guys. You made a difference! <3

2017-12-14 02:52:24 +0000 UTCOddly, I didn't see the guys you mention comment on it at all, but I did see a lot of artists threaten to outright leave the site if they didn't reverse their fees system. Some even were announcing closures right before the reversal came. Lots of people were mad X3 And thanks! I hope to entertain with my goofy, sexy works for years to come :3

2017-12-14 01:31:47 +0000 UTCYeah, I think that was a big part of it. Lots of people were taking screenshots of cancellations and sending them to Patreon, with a 'look what you did!!' message. But indeed, admitting they fucked up is a really hard but good thing they did. I can respect that.
