As Itsuki had expected.
When the Uchiha clan continued to remain silent, the Hokage faction began to feel restless.
The calm before the storm weighed heavily on their hearts, suffocating and ominous!
Their spies had informed them that Fugaku had allocated significant resources to bolster the strength of the Uchiha.
This was unacceptable!
The Uchiha were already a thorn in their side, and now they were further strengthening themselves? Were they planning to reach the heavens?
Even the two councilors, who had been skeptical of Danzo, began pressuring him to act.
Seizing this opportunity, Danzo managed to secure substantial funds from Hiruzen Sarutobi and his advisors and regained control of the Root organization.
Hiruzen realized that if he relied solely on Koharu and Homura, the Root might never be reestablished, even after a century.
Danzo was the only viable option.
The Uchiha grew even quieter.
Out in the village, they avoided causing trouble.
Many things that they saw, they pretended not to notice and simply turned away.
According to Itsuki’s strategy, they even smiled and greeted the villagers.
Although, at first, their smiles startled many people, over time, the villagers began to adapt and sometimes even returned a smile.
People still didn’t like the Uchiha, but when they greeted you with a smile, you couldn’t exactly respond with a scowl.
Let’s not forget, this was the proud and powerful Uchiha.
Being acknowledged by them felt like a privilege, didn’t it?
This was how Konoha’s villagers were.
When a low-ranking ninja smiled at everyone, most assumed they needed something.
But when the Uchiha, Konoha’s strongest clan, smiled at them, people felt both fear and a sense of being flattered.
The Uchiha’s reputation began to rise rapidly.
At the very least, they were no longer seen as an enemy.
On the contrary, because the Uchiha stopped interfering in many matters, the villagers started facing issues.
The Uchiha's role was significant!
Many said that the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, had assigned the Konoha Police Force to the Uchiha out of fear, isolating them by giving them a job that would make them disliked by others—all to separate and isolate the clan until they were forced into rebellion.
But Itsuki disagreed and had a different theory.
It was true that Tobirama feared the Uchiha, but as one of the most capable politicians in the ninja world, would he really gamble with the responsibility of Konoha’s police force just to undermine the Uchiha? Were his tactics so foolish?
The Konoha Police Force was crucial. If the Uchiha chose to misuse their authority, Konoha would fall into chaos, not far from outright rebellion.
Itsuki believed Tobirama had assigned the Uchiha this duty to expose them to the darker sides of village life, managing security and order.
They would earn the villagers' gratitude and develop a sense of belonging to the village.
They would apprehend criminals and witness the consequences faced by wrongdoers.
They would engage with the lower class and understand their lives.
Step by step, the Uchiha would integrate into Konoha.
Much like the Senju clan, who eventually dissolved and fully assimilated into the village.
Otherwise, Tobirama’s decision to grant the Uchiha such significant power would be inexplicable.
Itsuki even speculated that if the Second Hokage had not died, Uchiha Kagami might have become the Third Hokage—or, more likely, one of Kagami’s descendants, perhaps Shisui, would have taken that position.
If the Uchiha were fully integrated into Konoha, and one of their own became Hokage, all the village’s divisions would be resolved!
That, Itsuki believed, was Tobirama’s true intention.
When Itsuki took over the police force, he was surprised to find that the Uchiha had the right to act first and report later, and even the authority to expand their forces.
This was extraordinary!
In essence, as the commander of the police force, Itsuki could raise an army and act against anyone.
However, if the Uchiha allowed pride to cloud their judgment, they would walk down a dangerous path.
Arrogance and overzealous enforcement would breed hatred among the villagers and lead to eventual destruction.
In this, Konoha’s top four leaders also played their part.
Was the ostracization of the Uchiha truly Tobirama’s will?
Or was it driven by their own clan’s ambitions to grow and secure resources, which required pushing certain clans aside? In this case, the Uchiha were their target.
Regardless, Tobirama had died long ago, and there was no way to ask him.
Even if they could, it wouldn’t matter anymore—things had already spiraled beyond control.
Itsuki focused on the present.
With the significant power he wielded, there was no reason not to use it.
Holding back was also a tactic.
For example, many villagers were now struggling without Uchiha involvement.
The most evident impact was that petty thieves became bolder.
Under Itsuki’s orders, the police force only dealt with major crimes, not petty ones. But what major crimes could there be in a peaceful village like Konoha?
After some initial probing, the bolder thieves began robbing homes when villagers were away.
Imagine the shock of coming home from work only to find your house completely empty!
Many broke down and rushed to the police force for help.
Following Itsuki’s instructions, the police officers were polite, diligently took notes, and said, “Please wait for news at home.”
All with a smile!
And then…
Nothing happened.
After one or two such experiences, the villagers started accusing the Uchiha of negligence, even pounding their fists on the table and pointing their fingers right at the Uchiha’s faces.
The Uchiha maintained their pleasant demeanor, smiles unwavering, though their eyes flashed with Sharingan tomoe.
It was then that a chill ran down the villagers’ spines as they remembered whom they were confronting.
“Calm down. Would you like to come in for some tea?” an Uchiha said with a smile to a particularly irate villager. “We have food and drinks inside, free of charge!”
“N-no, thank you! I left a pot on the stove!”
The villagers fled in panic.
“Hah!”
Uchiha laughter echoed behind them.
The fleeing villagers, faces flushed with anger, muttered, “They really are evil, those Uchiha. Wait, what’s that?”
One villager noticed their neighbor coming out of the police station laden with bags.
“They found my stolen items. The Uchiha officers helped me recover everything,” said the neighbor, beaming.
“Why you?” The angry villager fumed. “We all came here for help. Why did they recover your stuff while I almost ended up drinking tea?”
“Did you yell at the Uchiha?”
“What does that mean?”
“It means you’re an idiot. Come with me.”
The two villagers walked back into the police station.
“You two again?”
An Uchiha officer looked up at them.
“Sir, this is my neighbor. He was just upset earlier and might have said something offensive. Please don’t take it to heart,” said the first villager.
The villager who had almost been invited in for tea was astounded.
After a flurry of apologies, the Uchiha officer started helping, and soon there were leads.
“What…?”
The villager was stunned.
This was how it worked?
“See that?” The neighbor said smugly. “When you ask for help, you need to show the right attitude. They don’t expect bribes, but would a simple ‘thank you’ kill you?”
“This, this…
*Chapter 67: Reckless Itachi*
"Did you see that?"
An Uchiha, watching two villagers leave happily, chuckled softly and said, "Same result. Those two villagers are now full of gratitude toward the Uchiha."
"Why?" another Uchiha asked curiously. "Bingmaru, wouldn't it have been faster if you just helped them find their stuff from the start?"
"Wrong. Completely wrong!"
Uchiha Bingmaru smirked coldly and said, "It’s all about one word."
"What word?"
"Humility!"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
The other Uchiha looked even more puzzled.
"Hmph! You don't get it? Then think it over slowly," Bingmaru said with a sneer. "Once you figure it out, you’ll understand why Lord Itsuki values me over you."
"You only got beaten up by Lord Itsuki!"
"That was Lord Itsuki guiding my ninjutsu!"
"Lord Itsuki made you cry!"
"Nonsense, I was moved to tears!"
"Oh!" The other Uchiha smiled. "Moved to tears? Like bawling for your mom and dad, huh?"
"Hahaha!" The other Uchiha members burst into laughter.
"You jerks!" Uchiha Bingmaru roared in frustration.
---
The Uchiha started to change.
They got lazier.
They rarely did anything meaningful.
Yet, their reputation kept improving.
It was a strange phenomenon.
The old Uchiha were arrogant, confrontational, and unkind. They frequently injured others severely.
If someone committed a crime, the Uchiha would arrest them without hesitation.
Beg for mercy?
Who are you to me?
Why should I give you any face? Talk back, and I’ll arrest you too!
Crying?
Crying won’t save you. I’ll arrest you anyway!
Unsurprisingly, dissatisfaction and hatred toward the Uchiha grew.
The Uchiha didn’t care.
Do the proud Uchiha care about your opinions?
Disagree? Come on, let’s settle this!
But when Itsuki took charge, he was dissatisfied with these practices.
"Why work hard only to be hated?!"
"We’ll slack off and make people grateful!"
So, the Uchiha became like this.
Before, if a thief was caught stealing, the Uchiha would arrest them immediately.
But the homeowner, unaware, would think, These domineering Uchiha are bullying people again. How awful!
Now?
Steal!
Go ahead! Steal everything! I’ll even keep watch for you!
When the homeowner returned and found their house ransacked, they’d rush to the Uchiha for help.
The Uchiha, lying around lazily, would hesitate to act.
Only after relentless pleading would they take action.
After several rounds of begging, the stolen goods would be recovered.
The grateful homeowner would be moved to tears, practically ready to kneel in thanks.
"Uchiha are such good people!"
While slacking off, what did the Uchiha do?
Train!
With new resources provided, why not train? Even on duty, they’d mentally rehearse ninjutsu.
Thus, both their reputation and strength improved.
The Konoha elders started to worry.
Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado cursed angrily.
Their goal was to isolate the Uchiha and make the village despise them.
But now, people were changing their views, almost ready to invite the Uchiha home for dinner.
And some actually did!
Why?
If something happens, who else would you call?
In the past, the Uchiha helped no matter what.
Now, they only help when begged.
So, building a good relationship in advance became essential.
Even the Uchiha themselves were astonished.
We can do this?
Save time, grow stronger, and gain respect. Salaries stayed the same, but now the clan handed out bonuses.
Damn!
Itsuki-sama, such a great man, is only the deputy head of the Uchiha?
Why?!
In just half a month, many began demanding Fugaku step down, allowing Uchiha Itsuki to take over as clan head.
Watching the clan's transformation, Fugaku couldn’t stop smiling.
Even his stoic face was constantly grinning.
But when calls for Itsuki to replace him reached his ears, the smile vanished.
*I wasn’t planning to stay clan head for long, but aren’t you pushing this too far?
Don’t I have any pride left?*
Has any Uchiha clan head ever been forced out?
...Okay, maybe there was one.
That guy ran away and became the world’s strongest rogue ninja.
But I’m not going to be the second!
And then, the person delivering the final blow arrived.
After completing a mission, Itachi, while chatting with the clan, expressed his agreement with their ideas.
"Itsuki-nii becoming clan head is just a matter of time, right?
Wouldn’t it be better for the family if it happened sooner? It’s frustrating to watch things as they are now."
"It’s not like Father is attached to being clan head, is he?"
Excited, Itachi went home to negotiate with his father about stepping down.
That night, agonized screams echoed across the Uchiha district.
Some even thought the Third Hokage had launched an attack.
The entire clan was on high alert.
"Sigh!"
Hearing the screams while sipping tea, Itsuki sighed deeply. "Kids these days, you can’t beat them like that anymore."
"Shut up. Are you even qualified to say that? You’re barely grown yourself," snapped Setsuna, rolling his eyes. "Though I do admit, Itachi’s dedication to the clan is admirable."
"But he shouldn’t have said it so directly. Doesn’t Fugaku have any pride left?"
Itsuki retorted, annoyed.
"Pride?" Setsuna said coldly. "If he had any, the Uchiha wouldn’t be in this mess."
"You…" Itsuki shook his head. "You can’t blame him entirely. Didn’t you and Elder Sougi also play a part?"
"Kid, are you itching for a beating?" Setsuna glared at him. "Who are you to lecture me?"
"Boss!"
At that moment, an Uchiha rushed in and whispered, "Shikaku Nara has arrived secretly. He wants to meet you."
"So, he’s here." Itsuki stood up. "Old man, you coming?"
"No!" Setsuna waved him off impatiently. "I’m allergic to Nara clan members!"
Itsuki raised a brow. "Weren’t you only beaten up by Hiruzen Sarutobi? Was it a Nara who came up with the plan?"
"Get lost!" Setsuna hurled his teacup at him furiously.
This brat just had to bring that up every day.
Sure, I got smacked down by Hiruzen back then. So what?
At least I had the guts to cause trouble. Those punks Sougi and Fugaku don’t even have the courage for that. Can they compare to me?!

*Chapter 68: Deer with a Scar!*
"Yo, Scarface! Long time no see—I’ve missed you to death!"
Itsuki hollered as he walked over, giving Shikaku Nara a big, enthusiastic hug.
Shikaku, whose body was modified by the Divine Tree, was even tougher than the Senju clan.
Still, he almost passed out from Itsuki’s bear hug, his eyes rolling back in pain.
"Alright, Itsuki, I know you’re upset. Don’t take it out on me. I’m a clan head too—I have to think about my family. All I can say is, I’m sorry, brother."
Shikaku Nara shook his head and smiled bitterly.
During the Third Ninja War, Itsuki and Minato were in the spotlight.
But the Hokage faction, wary of Itsuki’s rising fame, refused to entrust him with full command of a battlefront. Instead, they reassigned Shikaku Nara, who had been working with Minato, to Itsuki’s side under the pretext that Itsuki was too young and inexperienced.
As a result, Shikaku became the chief commander of the front, while Itsuki was the top fighter.
Itsuki didn’t care much—winning battles was all that mattered to him.
At that time, he hadn’t even awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, so he had little choice but to go along.
Despite their initial awkwardness, their partnership turned out well. Shikaku’s intelligence and strategic vision far surpassed Danzo’s, the previous commander.
Initially, both men were cautious, aware of each other’s affiliations and wary of being backstabbed. However, over time—whether due to circumstance or something else—they formed an unlikely friendship despite their age and factional differences.
Shikaku’s earlier apology stemmed from his silence during the smear campaign against Itsuki toward the end of the Third War. As Itsuki’s comrade on the battlefield, Shikaku’s inaction was inexcusable.
"Why would I blame you?" Itsuki slapped Shikaku on the shoulder. "I’m a clan head of the Uchiha now—I get it, really."
"…If you slap me again, I’m going down. And unless you fork over fifty million ryō, I’m not getting up. Don’t think I’ve forgotten you’re taking revenge for that time!"
Itsuki’s face twitched. "Are you extorting me?"
Shikaku smirked. "You pulled this trick on me once and got a million ryō out of it!"
"And you’re the Nara clan’s top strategist? A million ryō stuck in your mind?"
"And you’re the Uchiha clan head. What’s fifty million ryō to you?"
"I’m not even the clan head yet!"
"Then as deputy clan head, I’ll give you a discount."
"You’re ruthless!" Itsuki plopped down at the table, sipping tea. "Alright, what do you want?"
Shikaku calmly picked up Itsuki’s tea and downed it in one gulp. "Of course I need something. Otherwise, I wouldn’t dare bother you now."
"You’re quite shameless," Itsuki shot Shikaku a sideways glance. "You don’t hold back with your words."
"If I acted all polite with you, I’d just come off as fake," Shikaku replied with a grin. "You’re not having an easy time, are you?"
"How could you think that?" Itsuki chuckled lightly. "The Ino-Shika-Chō trio had a falling-out with the Hokage faction. The ANBU under Danzo’s Root division has been nearly wiped out. The Hokage’s power is weakened. Uchiha’s golden age is just starting."
Shikaku shook his head. "That’s surface-level. Sure, it looks like things are going well for you, but in reality, you’re walking on thin ice. Right now, the Uchiha are at a critical juncture. One mistake, and it’s all over."
Itsuki smiled faintly, not replying.
In his mind, he looked at two fruits within him:
- *LV 3 (Fire Release)*
- *LV 4 (Dōjutsu)*
His dōjutsu fruit was nearly at LV 5. By using the Konoha Police Force to gather death row prisoners, he would soon level up.
If things got desperate, he could consume the fruit before reaching LV 5 and still gain a significant boost. Combined with his left eye’s "Zero World," Itsuki doubted anyone in Konoha could stop him.
Shikaku’s concerns about Uchiha’s precarious position stemmed from his ignorance of the Mangekyō Sharingan’s true numbers within the clan.
While Shikaku might guess that Itsuki possessed this legendary dōjutsu, he was unaware that Fugaku, Shisui, and even Itachi also had it.
In fact, Itachi’s Mangekyō was a secret even from Fugaku and the Hokage.
Itsuki wasn’t afraid of the Hokage faction. If push came to shove, he would fight to the death—even if that meant some of the Uchiha clan had to retreat.
He had been laying plans for years; the Uchiha would never be without an escape route. When the time came, Konoha would face its destruction.
"Scarface, just spit it out. You know me—I don’t like wasting words."
"Fine!"
Shikaku’s tone grew serious. "Hiruzen Sarutobi isn’t fit to be Hokage anymore."
"And you think you’re fit?"
"Better than Hiruzen."
Itsuki gave Shikaku a sharp look. "What? Are you really interested in becoming Hokage?"
Shikaku stared back, silent.
"Cut to the chase—who are you nominating?" Itsuki asked coolly. "As for you, forget it. You’re not foolish enough to stand in the spotlight."
Shikaku smiled faintly. Talking to a smart person was always easier. "Torifu Akimichi."
"Too old," Itsuki rejected outright.
Hiruzen Sarutobi was already in his sixties. How much younger could Torifu Akimichi be? A man in his fifties as Hokage? That was absurd.
"Does Konoha think the other ninja clans have no opinions?"
Shikaku spread his hands. "There’s no suitable candidate right now. How about an interim Hokage?"
Itsuki’s hand paused mid-sip, his eyes narrowing at Shikaku. "Clever move."
An interim Hokage—so who was the "real" candidate?
Tsunade or Jiraiya.
Both were exceptions to the norm that ninja over fifty see a decline in combat effectiveness.
- Tsunade’s *Yin Seal* kept her at her peak.
- Orochimaru’s body-swapping made him temporarily rejuvenated.
- Jiraiya’s Sage Mode, if anything, had only grown stronger with age.
Itsuki had fought alongside Jiraiya and respected him. He knew the man’s strength wasn’t hindered by age.
The problem was that neither Tsunade nor Jiraiya wanted to be Hokage. They had seen too much of Konoha’s darkness.
If they didn’t return, how long would the interim Hokage hold office?
Two or three years were enough for Shikaku to maneuver—and any longer would be no different from a permanent position.
Itsuki smirked. "Scarface, you’ve really planned this out."
(End of Chapter)
Chapter 69: Danzo Is Going to Get Beat Up
Shikaku Nara's eyebrows twitched.
Every time he heard Itsuki call him "Big Scarface," he felt an urge to punch someone.
So what if he had a scar on his face? It was manly!
Now, hearing this guy say it with such a tone of admiration made his brow twitch even more.
Who was he mocking?
A pretty boy like you could never understand the charm of a mature man. Do you even know how many women admire me? As for the rumors about Itsuki and women, who’s ever really seen it?
At most, people saw him holding hands—have you seen anything more? Absolutely not!
Shikaku glared at Itsuki and asked, “What’s your answer?”
“What do I get in return?” Itsuki asked bluntly.
“Konoha won’t target the Uchiha anymore!”
“Heh, get lost,” Itsuki pointed at the door.
Are you trying to fool a beggar?
Not targeting the Uchiha?
Do you even know how hard it is for the Ino-Shika-Chō trio to climb the ranks? You’d better hope you don’t mess with me after you make it.
If you don’t act humble in front of me, I’ll beat you until you do. As for the current Hokage faction, even if you don’t target me, I’ll still target you.
Do you really think past grievances can just be laughed off?
Not even if you begged on your knees!
I swear, if I don’t make you cry and call me ‘dad,’ my name isn’t Uchiha!
Shikaku scowled, “If you have demands, just say them. Why cut off the conversation?”
“Ha, and what should I say?” Itsuki mocked. “Thank you so much for your kindness? Does your family know how generous you’re being? Do I need to take my shoe off and slap you?”
Shikaku’s face flushed slightly. He replied sheepishly, “Alright, fine. Here’s the deal: during Lord Torifu’s tenure as acting Hokage, the Uchiha will gain a seat on Konoha’s Council. How does that sound?”
“Not interested.”
A Council seat? What’s the use of that?
Can you eat it?
If I have soldiers, I have power.
If my fist is the biggest, you’ll listen to me or I’ll end you. That’s real power.
Shikaku sighed, “Then what do you want?”
Itsuki held up one hand, “Five billion ryo!”
He needed resources to rapidly strengthen the Uchiha.
“Are you insane?” Shikaku nearly jumped out of his seat. “Do you even know how much money is in the village’s treasury?”
While he didn’t know the exact figures, he had a rough idea. The current funds in the treasury didn’t even amount to five billion ryo!
In other words, they’d have to empty the treasury and the Ino-Shika-Chō would still need to chip in from their own pockets!
Could they even touch the treasury money?
“Don’t know, don’t care,” Itsuki said lazily. “If you want the Uchiha to back the Ino-Shika-Chō and stay out of political power, we want money.”
Shikaku’s face grew darker.
This threw his whole plan off.
The Uchiha actually wanted money!? Weren’t they always after the Hokage’s seat?
Shikaku had planned to offer them a Council seat, with the fallback option of an advisory position, and eventually dangle the next generation’s Hokage position as bait.
Of course, it wasn’t guaranteed—just a future promise to string them along.
Whether they would actually get it? No way!
Everyone knew Konoha would never have an Uchiha Hokage.
But now, Itsuki hadn’t even mentioned the Hokage position or shown interest in a Council seat.
They didn’t want power—just money?
Are you really an Uchiha?
Shikaku’s headache intensified.
Itsuki always played by his own rules.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to give them what they wanted.
If the Uchiha were steering clear of power, that was fine by him.
But five billion ryo?
He didn’t have that kind of money!
“Can we lower that?” Shikaku asked cautiously.
Itsuki rolled his eyes. “You think this is some shady deal where you can haggle?”
What shady deal?
What did I do?
Your words are so indecent! I’m a respectable person!
Shikaku’s face turned black.
“One word, one price. No haggling,” Itsuki said coldly. “The Uchiha will handle their own affairs. You all can do whatever you want. Bring the five billion ryo, and after Torifu takes office, you could sell Konoha for all I care.”
“Sigh,” Shikaku let out a long sigh. “I’ve never gotten the upper hand when dealing with you.”
“Quit whining,” Itsuki sneered. “If the Uchiha weren’t barred from becoming Hokage, do you think the Ino-Shika-Chō would have a chance?”
“Itsuki, you’re as sharp and calculating as ever.”
Shikaku smiled faintly and stood up. “The first payment—one billion ryo—will be in your hands tomorrow. We hope for your cooperation on the rest.”
“Of course. We’ve fought side by side before; you know my reputation is solid.”
Itsuki gave a small smile.
Shikaku didn’t argue.
Despite Itsuki’s roguish demeanor, his reliability and efficiency were beyond question.
Shikaku left.
Watching him go, Itsuki smirked.
Everyone thinks the Uchiha can’t be Hokage?
Who is everyone?
If I wipe them all out, can an Uchiha then become Hokage?
Back in the day, Konoha’s orders came from the Uchiha, but four generations of Hokage had all been from the Senju line.
Even if the Third and Fourth didn’t bear the Senju name, they were part of the clan.
The First and Second were direct heirs of the Senju.
Why?
Were they so exceptional that the Hokage seat was theirs by right?
There was one thing Sarutobi Hiruzen said that Itsuki did agree with—Uchiha Itachi had the mindset of a Hokage.
But could he ever become one?
Even if Konoha was destroyed, they wouldn’t let an Uchiha take the position.
Itsuki stood up, looked at the Hokage Rock, and smirked coldly. This time, he wouldn’t just become Hokage—he’d be the greatest Hokage.
He’d even change Konoha itself.
The Senju’s glory had faded.
Uchiha’s glory would endure.
Anyone who dares stand in his way will be kicked away and left with no place to bury their body!
Uchiha Obito, Uchiha Madara, Black Zetsu, Indra, Asura, the Otsutsuki brothers, and even Kaguya Otsutsuki...
Whoever dares to block me, I’ll eliminate them!
If even at the end they refuse to acknowledge my way, then I'll destroy Konoha and rebuild a new one!
"Bring someone here!"
"Minister!"
Tetsuka arrived at Fūnan's side.
The situation in the village was becoming increasingly dangerous, so the Tetsuka brothers officially took positions in the Konoha Police Force, though only in name. Most of their time was spent by Fūnan’s side, protecting him.
This was all by Fūnan's design.
Fūnan, who had always acted alone, suddenly gaining two elite guards was bound to raise questions.
Overuse of the Mangekyō Sharingan?
Unable to use it anymore?
Wouldn't people start thinking along those lines?
Probing was inevitable.
But was it really probing?
No—it was walking to their deaths!
“Come on, the more people willing to die, the better. I’ll whittle down the Hokage faction’s strength bit by bit until I personally crush their ‘jade.’”
“How are our clan members’ abilities coming along recently?”
Sipping tea, Fūnan asked, “How many Jōnin do we have now?”
“The number of Jōnin in the clan has risen to 37,” replied Tetsuka. “However, as per your instructions, we haven’t reported this to the village.”
“Good,” Fūnan nodded. Then, with a hint of nostalgia, he remarked, “You’ve finally corrected yourselves. Obedient children are still good children.”
The Tetsuka brothers remained expressionless.
If you weren’t our boss, we wouldn’t let you leave this room standing after saying that!
We’re in our twenties, and you’re a fifteen-year-old brat calling us children!
Fūnan was genuinely reflective.
Previously, it was an absurd situation: the Uchiha, with their many Chūnin, couldn’t be bothered to report to the village. Yet, whenever someone reached the comprehensive level of a Jōnin, they made sure to inform the village.
What were you thinking?
It’s as if you were afraid the village wouldn’t notice you enough!
Even for Chūnin, they submitted general data to the village.
Fugaku and the others explained: “It’s to intimidate the other side and show goodwill.”
Fūnan almost spat out his tea in disbelief.
Idiots!
A bunch of idiots!
Show goodwill?
Why not gouge out your Sharingan and hand it to them? That would really show goodwill!
Tetsuka added, “Minister, following your guidance, our clan members are focusing on specialization rather than striving to become full-fledged Jōnin. As a result, in just two weeks, the number of Tokubetsu Jōnin in the clan has surged, most excelling in genjutsu.”
What’s a Jōnin?
A ninja with comprehensive skills across the board.
And a Tokubetsu Jōnin?
A ninja outstanding in a specific field.
Some Tokubetsu Jōnin are even stronger in combat than Jōnin, though they lack the overall balance of a true Jōnin.
Does Fūnan need balance right now?
No—what he needs is raw combat power!
Be it ninjutsu, taijutsu, or genjutsu, just get stronger first!
The war is on the horizon, so there’s no time to quibble!
The Uchiha have far too many bad habits.
For such a proud clan, it’s shocking they barely had any Tokubetsu Jōnin before.
Within the clan, even if someone excelled in a single field, they would grit their teeth and work toward becoming a full Jōnin.
To them, being a Tokubetsu Jōnin was no different from being a Chūnin.
From Fūnan’s perspective, that was absurd.
If the Uchiha could field 500 Tokubetsu Jōnin, Sarutobi Hiruzen would probably soil himself out of fear.
The fight would end before it began.
“War could break out at any moment. We must strengthen our forces quickly.”
Fūnan pondered for a moment before asking, “What about Shisui? Has he been up to anything unusual lately?”
Tetsuka froze for a second before replying, “Nothing out of the ordinary. Minister, do you think he—”
“No, no,” Fūnan waved it off.
“Shisui has long held hope for the Hokage faction, but he’s more disappointed than anything now.”
“Then you mean…”
“Shisui is an innocent and straightforward person,” Fūnan said with a smile. “He can’t hide his emotions well, and they’re written all over his face. That’s why Itachi might still have some trust over there, but Shisui has been under suspicion for a while now.”
“So…”
“So, the Hokage faction is likely to make a move on him!”
Fūnan murmured, “And with his Kotoamatsukami… tch, tch. Even if they trust him, such power is something they won’t allow the Uchiha to keep.”
“Bring Shisui to me!”
“Yes, sir!”
…
When Nara Shikaku returned to the Nara clan compound, two individuals were waiting for him.
One was Danzo.
Sitting calmly in a seiza position, he was like a statue, not even glancing at the tea before him.
Opposite him was a towering man—a literal mountain of flesh.
Over 8 feet tall, he was pure bulk.
Beside him, Danzo looked like a scrawny chicken.
The giant man’s face was kind, but his aura was commanding. Even Danzo seemed slightly cautious around him.
It was Akimichi Torifu!
One of the most senior members of the Ino-Shika-Chō alliance and their ultimate trump card.
He was a disciple of the Second Hokage, having served as an elite guard under him. Alongside Danzo and Sarutobi Hiruzen, he was one of their comrades from back then.
Renowned across the ninja world for his immense strength, he was a legend.
When Sarutobi Hiruzen became Hokage, Torifu retired and returned to his clan.
Rumor has it that after Hiruzen became Hokage, the two people he wanted most were Uchiha Kagami and Akimichi Torifu.
Kagami represented the Uchiha, while Torifu represented the Ino-Shika-Chō.
Both refused, returning to their clans instead.
Left with no choice, Hiruzen turned to Danzo and his team, forming what would later become the infamous "Konoha F4."
Seeing Torifu, Shikaku let out a long sigh of relief.
With him here, it’s safe!
Shikaku calmly sat beside Torifu, basking in his imposing presence.
Ah, yes. Safe!
“Danzo, what brings you here?”
Shikaku’s first words made Danzo’s eyes flash with cold light.
Respect?
Does Danzo care for respect?
Even Torifu raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into an amused smirk.
Danzo spoke slowly, “It seems the Ino-Shika-Chō is determined to walk this dark path with the Uchiha.”
“What choice do we have?” Shikaku replied coldly. “If we don’t, we face annihilation. Walking this dark path might just lead us to light!”
His words, blunt and unyielding, openly acknowledged their alliance with the Uchiha.
Danzo was visibly unsettled.
Who dares underestimate the power of the Ino-Shika-Chō alliance?
Especially when the Aburame and Inuzuka clans are tied to them as well.
Five clans united—the Uchiha wouldn’t take them lightly.
If they were truly allied, what hope was there for the Hokage faction?
Danzo’s icy gaze remained fixed on Shikaku, radiating a murderous aura.
“Bang!”
A massive hand slammed onto the table, shattering it into pieces.
The sudden noise startled both Danzo and Shikaku.
“What are you doing?” Torifu glared at Danzo, his smile devoid of warmth. “Danzo, you’re getting bold. Coming onto Ino-Shika-Chō land to threaten the Nara clan head? Whose guts are you borrowing? Hiruzen’s? Let him try me—I’ll have monkey brains for dinner!”
Danzo’s face darkened as he glared back. “Torifu, are you really going to follow Shikaku in this madness?”
“Shut your trap!” Torifu barked, cursing him outright. “Madness? What madness? I’ve seen that list you gave us! If Shikaku hadn’t stopped me, I’d have beaten you with my staff already!”
“What do you want? To wipe out the Ino-Shika-Chō?!”
As Torifu bellowed, his massive frame leaned toward Danzo.
*In the midst of the roar, that massive figure had already closed in on Danzo.*
Danzo's eye twitched, and deep down, he truly felt a hint of fear.
Back when he served as a bodyguard for the Second Hokage, he had taken more than a few beatings from the person now in front of him.
Hiruzen Sarutobi, Danzo Shimura, Torifu Akimichi, Kagami Uchiha, Koharu Utatane, and Homura Mitokado.
The six of them had been the bodyguards for the Second Hokage.
Among them, Kagami Uchiha undoubtedly had the most prestigious background. However, due to the unique nature of the Uchiha clan and Kagami's own mild-mannered personality, even if there were conflicts, he always chose to back down.
Torifu Akimichi, on the other hand, was a completely different story.
The Ino-Shika-Cho trio were already a renowned lineage even back then.
And what was Danzo Shimura?
The Shimura clan was a no-name, minor shinobi family at best.
When it came to lineage, he couldn’t compete with Torifu Akimichi.
When it came to strength, he was outmatched as well.
As a result, Danzo, with his naturally sharp and confrontational personality, would often find himself getting taught a lesson by the man before him back then.
And when Torifu Akimichi struck, he truly didn’t hold back—no regard for saving face whatsoever!
Danzo never quite understood.
The Second Hokage had advocated for the decentralization of powerful clans, even dismantling the mighty Senju clan.
Hiruzen Sarutobi and the others all came from small shinobi clans.
Kagami Uchiha was an exception due to his unique role as a bridge between the village and the Uchiha clan.
But how had Torifu Akimichi managed to join the mix?
Amidst a pack of Tibetan Mastiffs, how had a Husky suddenly appeared?
Danzo's rivalry with Hiruzen Sarutobi, their lifelong competition, was inevitable.
There were only three truly strong contenders.
Kagami Uchiha ignored him completely.
The man in front of him was ruthless, with zero hesitation—if he wanted to fight, he fought!
Which left Danzo no choice but to challenge Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Now, as Torifu Akimichi stood with his current imposing stance, Danzo felt not just intimidated but also a strange sense of déjà vu.
Could it be that the embarrassing memories of his past were about to repeat themselves once more?
(End of Chapter)
*Chapter 70: Actually Got Beaten!*
"Torifu, stop messing around. Who wants to see the Ino-Shika-Cho exterminated?"
"The Ino-Shika-Cho trio is a vital pillar of the village—of course I know that!"
Danzo’s expression was furious, but his tone softened, with a hint of speaking gently. "You know full well the current situation with the Uchiha. Everything I do is for the sake of Konoha."
"Cut the crap!"
Akimichi Torifu sneered. "If anything happens to the Uchiha, it’s because you pushed them into a corner. Do you really think I’ve been completely clueless about everything since I retired? If I were in their place, I’d have already beaten the crap out of you for what you’ve done over the years."
"Danzo, you take everyone for a fool, but be careful not to make a fool of yourself."
Torifu glared at Danzo, mocking, "The reason you’ve been sending members of the Ino-Shika-Cho to deal with the Uchiha, to die, isn’t it really aimed at me?"
"This..."
Nara Shikaku looked at Akimichi Torifu in astonishment.
What’s going on here?
How could Danzo’s repeated deployments of Ino-Shika-Cho members be connected to Torifu?
"Uncle Torifu, what’s this about?" Shikaku asked.
Torifu pointed at Danzo’s nose, swearing, "This bastard—when I served as the Second Hokage’s bodyguard, I beat him up countless times. This is his revenge."
Shikaku was stunned. This actually happened?
"Stop spouting nonsense!" Danzo slammed the table in anger. "I’m warning you, Torifu—"
"Enough with the excuses!" Torifu cut him off coldly. "Back then, you were just a wimpy little punk—full of attitude and no skills. I lost count of how many times I beat you up. Are you saying you don’t hold a grudge against me?"
"You... you..."
Danzo was so angry his whole body trembled.
Faced with Nara Shikaku, the renowned Jonin commander and the brain of the ninja world, Danzo found himself furious and humiliated.
Do I really have no dignity?
"What? What about me?" Torifu sneered. "Let me tell you, stay away from the Ino-Shika-Cho trio, or I’ll deal with you myself. I’d say the same thing even if Sarutobi Hiruzen were here!"
"Assistant to the Hokage? What a load of crap!"
"Torifu Akimichi, are you seriously siding with the Uchiha?" Danzo growled. "Everything we do is to carry on the will of our teacher. Are you going to defy our teacher’s wishes?"
"There you go again!" Torifu’s eyes turned icy. "Danzo, tell me—if our teacher were alive today and saw what you’ve become, what would he do first?"
"What would the teacher do?" Danzo sneered. "He’d clean house, obviously. Torifu Akimichi, you’ve completely strayed from the—"
"To hell with your nonsense, you shameless bastard!"
Torifu roared in anger, and his fist suddenly expanded.
*Partial Expansion Jutsu!*
"BOOM!!!"
Many people in Konoha witnessed an incredible sight.
One of the village’s high-ranking officials...
The Hokage’s assistant...
The leader of Root...
The shadow of the ninja world...
Shimura Danzo!
Was sent flying by a giant fist.
Danzo flew so far that several ninja had to intervene to save him.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk!"
From a window, Uchiha Wind Nan, who had been lost in thought, witnessed the scene with his Sharingan and couldn’t help but click his tongue. Muttering to himself, he said, "Akimichi Torifu? The old man’s strength is still formidable—probably at Kage level. Unfortunately, it won’t last long. His power will start to decline soon."
Torifu’s age was catching up with him, and the secret techniques of the Ino-Shika-Cho trio couldn’t be maintained forever.
Konoha’s old guard of Kage-level ninjas was dwindling.
Sarutobi Hiruzen, Shimura Danzo, Akimichi Torifu—these three were the ones still publicly active.
There were probably others operating in secret.
But what about the younger generation?
Perhaps only Uchiha Fugaku was close.
Tsunade and Jiraiya were no longer in Konoha, and Orochimaru had defected.
A younger Kakashi Hatake was unlikely to have reached Kage level.
The Ino-Shika-Cho trio combined could handle one Kage-level ninja.
As for the new generation—Wind Nan, Shisui, and Itachi—all belonged to the Uchiha.
In the eyes of Sarutobi Hiruzen and others, they were enemies.
Even if Wind Nan did nothing, Sarutobi and his allies would still act.
Time was not on their side.
In three to five years, the power of Wind Nan and the others would further increase, though still not at its peak.
Meanwhile, the power of the Hokage and his allies would decline.
If there was any unpredictable variable... it would be the "Beast."
Konoha’s Green Beast, Might Guy.
That was a significant issue.
Wind Nan rubbed his chin.
Currently, Guy probably couldn’t use the Eighth Gate of the Eight Gates Formation. However, his Seven Gates alone could already cause trouble.
The Seventh Gate was at Kage level.
Even the Sixth Gate might be.
"One step at a time. Once my eyes evolve into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, it’ll be your end. There’s no rush—the ones who should be worried are you!"
"As for the Beast—if necessary, maybe I’ll deal with him early. Or perhaps I’ll use Kotoamatsukami on him?"
...
A smoking pipe fell to the floor with a clatter.
Sarutobi Hiruzen stared in shock at the figure that had been sent flying.
Danzo? Was that really Danzo?
Who would dare bully my Danzo like this?
Don’t they want to live in Konoha anymore?
"Uchiha Wind Nan!"
Sarutobi Hiruzen’s face darkened. "Go see what happened to the Hokage’s assistant. Also, summon the Anbu and have the village’s Jonin on standby."
"Yes!"
This time, Sarutobi was uncharacteristically decisive. He didn’t even use the door, opting to jump out the window like his student, Jiraiya.
He was genuinely worried that Danzo had provoked Wind Nan and pushed the Uchiha to the brink of rebellion.
If that happened, Konoha would face destruction.
A prepared, united Uchiha clan would exact a heavy toll, especially under the leadership of Wind Nan—the once-hero of Konoha and wielder of the Mangekyo Sharingan, Blood Flame Wind Nan.
It would be hell.
But when he arrived, he was stunned.
It had nothing to do with the Uchiha. In fact, the Uchiha were helping to mediate.
A giant, overweight figure wielding a massive staff was chasing Danzo relentlessly.
With every step, the ground shook.
Danzo, protected by a few Root ninjas, was being pursued and forced to jump around like mad.
Many ninja stood around watching, but few dared intervene in this quarrel between two high-ranking figures.
"Stop, stop!"
The Third Hokage roared. "Danzo! Torifu! What are you two doing?"
Seeing the Hokage, Danzo exclaimed, "Hiruzen, you’re finally here!"
Damn it, if you hadn’t come, I’d have been in real danger. I don’t want to have to break the seals on my arm and eye just because of this fat bastard.
Besides, with so many ninja around, I wouldn’t dare break the seals. Otherwise, I’d have to face the wrath of the Uchiha.
Torifu merely glanced at Hiruzen and, with a wave of his staff, coldly said, "This is between me and Danzo—it’s none of your business. Sarutobi Hiruzen, I’m warning you: stay out of it, or I’ll beat you too!"
"What the...!"
Many onlookers were wide-eyed.
Torifu Akimichi, usually low-key, was suddenly so fierce that he didn’t give the Hokage any face at all. To everyone’s surprise, Hiruzen only smiled bitterly, showing no anger.
"Calm down, calm down!"
Hiruzen stepped in front of Danzo and said, "You’re both too old for this kind of nonsense. Aren’t you embarrassed?"
Even as furious as he was, Torifu couldn’t attack the Hokage. He snorted coldly, put away his staff, and said, "Hiruzen, I’ll let it go this time for your sake. But if Danzo dares to scheme against the Ino-Shika-Cho again, I’ll break his damn legs."
Danzo’s face turned livid as he cursed silently: You’re the one with damn legs. No, you’re a pig leg!
The Hokage smiled wryly. "What’s this all about?"
Torifu glared at him. "You haven’t seen the list?"
"You mean this?" The Hokage sighed. "Danzo was indeed out of line.
The hot-tempered, stout man was truly their nightmare back in the day.
Among them, every single one—even Sarutobi Hiruzen—had suffered under his hands. Only Uchiha Kagami, ever the good-natured one, maintained a decent relationship with him.
"Sigh!" The Third Hokage let out a deep sigh, picked up his smoking pipe from the ground, lit it, and said, "Danzo, why did you have to provoke that old fat man? Haven’t you suffered enough from him in the past?"
Danzo wore a grim expression and said nothing. Today, his face had been utterly disgraced.
Akimichi Torifu, just like in the old days, gave no respect whatsoever—he struck when he felt like it.
Sarutobi Hiruzen had only been spared because of his status as Hokage. Otherwise, that old man wouldn't have shown him any mercy either.
Akimichi Torifu was genuinely strong.
Even Sarutobi Hiruzen wouldn’t dare claim he could defeat him.
Back when the Second Hokage advocated for the civilianization of ninja clans, he first disbanded the Senju Clan and took several civilians and small ninja clan members as disciples. This was to prevent Konoha from becoming dominated by major ninja clans.
There were only two exceptions.
One was Uchiha Kagami, brought in to bridge relations with the Uchiha Clan, a role he fulfilled admirably and with the Second Hokage’s favor.
The other was Akimichi Torifu.
The renowned Akimichi Clan, part of the legendary "Ino–Shika–Cho" trio, was represented by its "Cho" (Butterfly).
Why did Torifu become the Second Hokage’s disciple?
The biggest reason was his talent.
Akimichi Torifu’s exceptional abilities caught the Second Hokage's attention.
Another smaller reason was to bring the "Ino–Shika–Cho" trio closer to the Hokage.
Viewed individually, the Ino, Shika, and Cho clans were strong but not top-tier. Together, however, they formed a powerhouse among ninja clans.
Torifu being chosen over his generation’s "Shika" and "Ino" spoke volumes about his skill.
"Are we just going to let this go?"
Danzo’s face was livid.
"What else do you want to do?" Sarutobi Hiruzen asked helplessly. "You know the standing of the Ino–Shika–Cho in Konoha. They’re nothing like the Uchiha. They have great relations with others. Besides, if your list gets out, who would side with you?"
At the mention of that list, Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado’s faces twitched.
Danzo, you’re ruthless!
No wonder the Ino–Shika–Cho distanced themselves from you. The Inuzuka Clan and the Aburame Clan were subtly allying with them too.
Even I feel like punching you!
You wiped out the elite jonin of their clans and even wanted the Aburame Clan’s leader. What exactly were you trying to do?
Even the most patient people would be infuriated!
Danzo spoke in a cold tone, "I only wanted Root to be fully established as soon as possible so we could deal with the Uchiha. You all know how much stronger they’re becoming."
This statement made the F4 (Hiruzen, Danzo, Koharu, and Homura) collectively frown.
The recent changes in the Uchiha Clan had not gone unnoticed.
Their reputation in the village was improving.
Simultaneously, they were distributing resources within their clan to strengthen themselves.
These two points alone made it clear that immediate action was necessary.
Not to mention, there were other small moves happening behind the scenes.
"Hiruzen, Danzo has a point," Homura said, looking at the Third Hokage. "We can’t let the Uchiha continue growing unchecked."
Tck-tck-tck...
The Third Hokage puffed on his pipe, saying slowly, "What’s your plan?"
"Plan?" Danzo chuckled coldly. "Leave it to me!"
At these words, even the Third Hokage shuddered.
Koharu’s expression became awkward. "Danzo, um…"
Can you not?
For the love of everything, can you give us a break?
Look at the aftermath of your previous attempts!
Root suffered losses.
ANBU took hits.
The Ino–Shika–Cho drifted away.
Akimichi Torifu beat you up, no, thrashed you!
If you keep this up, we’re genuinely worried whether the Hokage Building itself will remain standing.
Cough! The Hokage cleared his throat. "Danzo, calm down. The momentum is still on our side. Let’s take this slow and steady."
"Hmph. Just wait for my good news!" Danzo scoffed, tapping his cane as he walked out confidently.
Koharu frowned, turning to Hiruzen. "Isn’t Danzo being a bit too confident?"
Honestly, I have no idea what to do anymore!
"We don’t have much choice," the Third Hokage replied bitterly.
He finally understood the meaning of hoisting a rock only to drop it on your own foot.
Jiraiya and Tsunade refused to return. Could he blame them?
Even Orochimaru’s situation was partly his failure to handle things properly.
And the Uchiha… maybe they’d been pushed too hard.
Otherwise, how did things escalate to this point?
Why was he left with so few usable allies?
It used to be so comfortable, managing everything alone. Now it was nothing but awkwardness.
The Third Hokage sighed deeply. "Go, call Kakashi."
"Yes!"
"Hiruzen…"
"Forget it. Let’s give Danzo one last chance," the Third Hokage said, shaking his head. "To be honest, we don’t have many other options. Let’s see what he can accomplish this time."
Koharu and Homura exchanged uneasy glances.
