It is meant for a short living period than the long -haul but it is common in big cities where getting an apartment is impossible for everyday people who are studying.

Originally, they were designed as small rental spaces for students to study, but since housing prices in Seoul are high, many office workers and other professionals also live in them. The $500+ rooms that he first saw have a shower and a bathroom inside the room, but cheap ones they have to share. A gosiwon typically has a much poorer structure and environment compared to what is commonly referred to as a micro studio, but cheaper price.
