However, I can see how or why it would be possible for both ships to happen as well. If you ask me if I had to prefer or choose, I would think Laios and Marcille have a better dynamic for that kind of thing than Falin. The author pretty much leaves it up in the air with how the series goes so it's honestly whatever you think is best lol.

People ship Laios and Marcille together and I've never seen anyone say it's weird or push back in the same way. There are a TON of extras (not talking about mainline manga content, not trying to spoil anyone) that show Marcille being very possessive over Falin and in roles that would be typical of a partner, but it gets dismissed for the exact same reasons that people tried to argue Miorine and Suletta were *just friends* (an even more absurd argument). Nothing's confirmed, sure, but when people only strongly argue against one specific ship, it starts to feel really weird and intentional.

Essentially the author of this series got interviewed recently and the interviewer was asking some weirdly worded or out of pocket questions about certain characters and aspects of the story. One of those questions was about Falin and Marcilles relationship and the interviewer wanted to say they are a thing. The author responded by tiptoeing around that and stating that wasn't the intention of writing those characters together in the series, however, the author didn't dismiss the idea either. Leaving it up to the readers/audience on what they think in the end. That's the gist of that part of the interview. In my main comment I said what I thought about their relationship was when I first saw the episode when it aired and this was before the interview of course that I saw them as close friends from school. Big part of their relationship is two different people bonding over magic and they become each other's first true friend. Hopefully my tired spir last night got cleared up 🤣

The interview happened about a week or so ago and I figured it would be worth sharing as well as comment on what I think the relationship between the characters were presented as. 2024-08-29 07:29:00 +0000 UTCIt's actually been revealed just recently that the Author of Dungeon Meshi was asked about Falin and Marcille's relationship being romantic and they pretty much said that it is up to interpretation more or less and that they specifically wrote it without that in mind. The translation of the interview can be shotty but essentially baseline they are just really close friends. My personal view from when I saw this was its an anime thing and that they are just really good friends in the end. Both rely on each other for a lot of things, and they are each other's first real best friends in this world. I can see where people think so in this case but then I am on the side where they just are super best friends' case.

The reason why some people say you need to get through 300 episodes to get into it might be because it's the time necessary for some to get used to the terrible slow pacing and redondant filler scenes that pop out every 2 minutes in each episode, when it is not the entire episode itself (or entire arc) that is filler. There is a reason why fans created "One-Pace" and there is a reason why Oda asked Wit Studio for a remake of the anime. Toei might have upped the quality of their adaptation when they renewed their staff during the last seasons, but it is still 90% slow paced filler and is insulting to the stellar writing of the original manga. "True One Piece fans" read the manga.

Because of a comment I saw of episode like 9 or 10 before even watching episode 1 of this show, I ended up giving it a try. And now I'm all the way here. It makes little sense to read comments ahead of you, but it doesn't hurt me to type the spoiler warning anyways just to be nice. I wouldn't normally give a spoiler warning for a previous episode since it seems redundant, but I just felt like it for this one this once. No real particular reason, I didn't think it would bother or offend anyone. But I'll go ahead and change that part of the spoiler warning.

Marcille genuinely believes the spell she used was the correct one and for the right reasons, but it's illegal and mage authorities probably wouldn't let it slide even if it was for a good cause :'(

The answer is, no. It's the same here, If the beginning was boring - it was just boring. I happen to like interpersonal shows with character dynamics. I also like wholesome stuff, so for me the show was always something I would watch. Entertainment is subjective. As a popular example - Some swear that JJK is "peak fiction". The reality is JJK has a very weak story / plot, It's riddled with inconsistencies, very few characters that matter or exist only to be killed off later. It only excels in one category, showing the viewer "cool shit". Objectively speaking, JJK is average a.f. and I'd rank Dungeon Meshi over JJK in terms of story, lore and character building any day.

And this is directly related to the producers adding in a few seconds of awkward pauses from Marcille whenever they talked about the topic, and few other ways too that im too lazy to explain how they did it. Also this anime clearly hides dark themes with the premise of a food appreciation show. There are dark moments, and immediately masks it with comedy right after. She was so decomposed they had to use raw substitute materials and their blood to make up for what was missing and we all know what a big flop that turned out to be. Glad it worked out here and I do like the questioning on what's deemed appropriate and inappropriate in terms of magic. I like Marcelle's logic that ALL magic is neither good nor evil and it being just a tool and it all depends on who is using it and why.

Because while yes, this is a resurrection spell, it's also very much a rebirth. Marcille's not just bringing someone back to life, she's completely forming them from nothing very rapidly.
