The books were way more brutal since she has 3 children, she had to pick between the male twin and her youngest son and they threaten to SA her daughter if she waited too long to decide. In the book she is trying to save her eldest and heir by choosing her youngest, the assassins in the books are way more cruel, they tell the youngest that their mother wanted them to kill him and then they kill the male twin anyway.

This is late but I don't think it's "not remembering." I think they never picked up on it! I remember during season 1 comments were trying to explain it but they just kept thinking of her ravings as that of a mad woman. Hopefully it becomes more clear because even here they seemed unwilling to understand she literally predicted this with her call out of the "rats," instead supposing that it might be a coincidence.

Halaena is a bit of a seer but bc she's strange (proabably on the spectrum) they never listen to her. in the first season when when Aemon was complaining to his mom about the boys teasing him with the pig dressed as a dragon and Alicent answered that he'll eventually get a dragon one day, Halaena said "yes, but he'll have to close an eye first". She also prophesized that there was a "beast beneath the boards" Rhaenys and her Dragon Meleys. So when she said she was afraid of the rats she meant the rat catchers, she just doesn't know how to express herself and because of that they just ignore her prophesies as her being weird.

It didn’t have anything to do with whether the boy wanted to be king or not. Helaena mentally dissociated (poor girl didn’t even realize she had made it down the steps) and pointed out the boy, thinking that they’d assume she was lying to protect the heir. Had Cheese not been there (Daemon mentioned he was a gambler), Blood would have fallen into the trap and killed the girl. Cheese simply called her bluff. A lot of this could have been avoided if her family listened to her.

Aemond was bullied by everyone growing up, Aegon along with Nyra’s kids made fun of him and made him feel like a loser day in and day out. It was very clear why he became who he became and that the dragon killing Luke wasn’t his intent still. Everyone’s actions track back to some kind of trauma and bad situation they were in themselves. not once has this seemed as if the Blacks are the good guys or the Greens are evil, even in this episode - the biggest blunder was pulled by the Blacks and it was portrayed as such. However, Rhaenrya is clearly the center of the show because she's been THE focal point for this chaotic butterfly effect. Of course our Western ideology has an easier time siding with the individualistic, rebellious Queen of the Blacks over the rigid, somber Queen of the Greens. I understand that they might bypass the guards outside by using a secret passageway, but it's not like it led them straight into her room. So why there was no guard outside of her room? She is the queen and the heir to the throne was in that room too, so there should have been guards, or even Kingsguard there to protect them. P/s: after typing the Kingsguard part, I think Criston Cole was supposed to be there, but he went to Alicent's room to have night time activity with her. Idk, it is just a guess.

Viserys didn't even give a fuck that Rhaenyra was smashing until Otto clarified that he thought she slept with Daemon. The only issue was that it was with Daemon. A whole plot point in the first season is Rhaenyra lying about having had sex. There was a whole kerfuffle about her drinking a tea which was leaked to Alicent via Larys. Viserys got all up in Daemons face for "ruining" Rhaenyra and I'm pretty sure all of this drama wasn't just due to the incest (given incest was more normal) but a lot about Rhaenyra having sex out of wedlock (and it being with her sketchy uncle was icing on the cake).

In the books, it was a choice between her 2 sons, and she chose her 2nd born to die but they lopped off the 1st born’s head instead to fuck with them. I think Haelena knew the boy was gonna die regardless. When she pointed at her son, Blood assumed she was lying and said no way she'd give up the heir. Now if you re-do that scene and imagine she had lied and pointed at her daughter claiming she was the boy, Blood again would've assumed she was lying and killed the other one which actually would've been the boy. The boy was done for regardless and she knew that which I think is why she didn't bother lying.

Damon told blood and cheese a "son for a son" meaning if Aemond isn't there then kill anyone who is a male targaryn or son to the prior Queen Alicent. Haelaena didn't pick Jae cause she figured he die anyway she simply just told the truth to help spare her daughters life since they would just kill both if one wasn't a son also she is prophetic like a oracle, she had already had visions of his death on that day. When shes sitting there talking about rats shes referring to Blood and cheese, she also says under her breathe they want the boy as she sows his funeral thingy. In the book the way it happens is much worse, they tie her and alicent up then make Hae pick which kid to kill, she chooses her 3rd kid Maelor and then blood and cheese taunt them and kill Jae anyway after threatening to R word the daughter if Hae didnt choose, brutal shit.
