It's something to talk about, something that will keep the readers engaged with the story. Yes, some will just blatantly hate on it or hate Rudy for things he does but that's the point of it all. As readers as well as watchers, we are not there to fully support everything Rudy does. We are there to see him grow as a person. He is not the perfect MC everyone is so used to at this point and I personally think that's what makes it beautiful. All of the imperfections of Rudy's character is what makes you engage with the story to see if he will do something bad that will cost him the trust of people who respects him or loves him. It's all about the choices he makes, as the title says: "mushoku tense isekai ittara honki dasu" which means taking Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go to Another World. The seriously try part is him living his second life and yes, it started off in a very rough start since he still retains his old scummy self before he got reincarnated but once something happens that will make him realise that since this is the second life he lived and everyone around him is affected by his decisions especially later on (spoiler alert so won't say what happened. IYKYK). We need to see him grow past his old self, that's the meaning of the story. We could not have a story about a man pushing himself to be a better person when he is already a good person to start with and no more room for growth. People will get thrown off by his decisions but all of that are intentional. No creator, both in films and writing who creates their character the way it is unintentionally. Everything and everyone are cautiously created by their creators to represent the story and character they are trying to tell.

I also don't know if the author created these " two sides of the same coin" scenarios on purpose or accidentally. like...how we can sit here and watch Elinalise sexually assault a student by touching his crotch and with intent of seducing him in front of everyone. we can simply laugh it off, but when Rudy does it, that's where we draw the line. also did we forget about how the Beastfolks literally paralyzed Rudy, kidnapped him, molested him by stripping him naked and pouring water on him( which is their highest form of embarrassment/punishement other then death) multiple times then threw him in a bug infested jail cell for who knows how long. All under false accusation of beastiallity, right after he had finshed saving the Beastfolks children from slave hunters. and again we saw it as a comedy skit. no fuss was made over it. even though that literal scenario was what cause Rudy's shut-in incident to begin with in his past life, but as soon as he does what he did to them in this episode, we immediately condemn him and him alone. Same with the slavery situation, Zanoba was the one who needed a Julie to make figurines for him because, he can't physically craft them for himself. soo, he bought Julie, he named her and she's staying with him. Sylphy propose the idea and yet Rudy is the only one who's getting reemed for it. take a look at the Sara situation aswell. Sara lead Rudy on for weeks thinking that they might actually have something together. until finally, she was able to seduce him with the plan to lose her virginity and after wards confess her love for him, but after his "performance issue" instead of comforting him and see if they can find a solution for the problem. she decides to backpaddle and tell him that, all of it was simply away for her to pay him back for saving her, which was a lie. again no fuss was made, but as soon as he made some drunken comments of her, immediately the line was crossed and her slapping him was " justified". I'm not saying that Rudy is at his best right now either because, he obviously isn't. turning point 3 and onwards is where he'll truly shines IMO. I wish that the anime would stop cutting key important details that constantly makes Rudy looks worse then he actually is. whether it be inner monologue or constantly lowering the worlds rating from R rated to like Pg16. and I hope people hold their values and opinion on every character and not just pick and choose. No hate here, nothing but love for the series.

The only main part of this show that has been actual filler so far is the episode of Rudy, Eris, and Ruijerd in the beast village in S1. That whole relationship of Eris training those two beast girls? All filler. Not in the novels. Those two characters are anime only. They are both younger sisters two Linia and Purrsena here. That's filler, and it was great. This isn't filler bc it's slice of life. It's a story following Rudy's life and journey of change, not an action packed thriller Edit: apparently the girls aren't anime only. Maybe it was the light novels then and not the web novels? I read web novels, and I recall much of that episode not being there in the novels. Could be wrong

2023-08-22 11:22:55 +0000 UTCI've seen some people say that Rudy has barely changed from how he was during S1, or that he regressed from his development in this episode. So I'd just like to say something as a LN/WN reader. Rudy is still technically the same as he was during the end of S1. He's changed, but not significantly. He does act a bit different from how he did before, but that's mostly due to him suffering from ED, and not really from him maturing much. However, I personally believe that by the end of S2, it'll truly be obvious how much he's grown and matured as a person. We've just finished volume 8 of the LN with this episode. Volume 8 is mostly there to establish Ranoa and the University, as well as show Rudeus connect and form relationships with different people and how he lives his daily life in Uni. It's a fun volume that I really like, but not a significant one. However, we're now entering volume 9 with the next episode. And this volume is when I believe that Rudeus genuinely begins to change and mature as a person. Unfortunately, most of his significant development starts from the 2nd cour airing next year April, which most likely covers volumes 10-12 of the LN. But I believe that by the end of the 2nd cour, Rudeus is, to me at least, almost a completely different person than he was during the start of S1. Season 2 cour 1 is great so far, and these last few episodes will be amazing since it's covering volume 9. But Season 2 cour 2 will be a masterpiece if adapted well. Volume 10 is a really good SOL volume, Volume 11 is an amazing volume, and Volume 12 is an actual masterpiece and an emotional climax to everything that's been built up from S1. To me, volume 12 is when Mushoku Tensei truly became a genuine masterpiece. And it literally only gets better from there onwards too. In the end, I'd say be patient with Rudy. His journey to improve himself is long, with many times where he ends up messing up along the way. But the payoff to his character arc is brilliant, even in volume 12, which isn't even halfway to the end of the story. Some people say that MT is a redemption story, but I think that MT is more of a self-improvement story than anything else. Sorry for the long wall of text btw 🫡

Along with this a lot of people in the magical don’t understand the principles of the elements they create. For example, in this episode, Sylphie explains steam to the princess by putting something hot and water. This was some thing Rudy showed Sylphie the first time they met, because she asked how he was able to create hot water to clean the mud off her, and he showed her how he was able to mix a ball of fire, and a ball water to do that. Another example why not stated is when Rudy was fighting Orsted. That big fireball he sent wasn’t just fire magic, Rudy also used wind magic to continuously feed the fire ball more oxygen to make bigger and hotter. Most magicians don’t have to worry about making fire, they just do so. They don’t have to learn about the fire triangle, which is what gives Rudy an edge over them in the way he thinks about magic.

Timing: I think online Anime discourse has grown in the 4+ years since SH’s release so more eyes are on anime and more people are talking about it publicly 2. Reasoning: Naofumi’s reasoning for wanting a slave is way better than Rudy’s. Naofumi’s situation was life or death and he had no other options, probably. Rudy’s reasoning is wanting to make statues for Zanoba (which I have been spoiled that it has deeper meaning) but is bad or at least weak and the anime makes it seem like they barely tried other methods. 3. Framing: Slavery in SH is shown as a bad thing from the start and Naofumi is shunned even more for it, until it later becomes a power system hack, but originally it is shown as a necessary evil. In MT, it is dropped so casually which is jarring but understandable since it legal in Ranoa, but not getting Rudy’s inner thoughts is weird and it should not have been cut (IMO). It is a bit jarring to see Rudy who saved and defended beast people from going into slavery only empathize with this child slave on the way it relates to him, depression, not her situation. Either way just different initial framing. 4. Protagonists: I think Naofumi is seen as better protagonist morally since he wasn’t a sex pest like Rudy and not a adult mind in child’s body so people are more likely to hate Rudy already so the slavery just adds more fuel to Rudy Hate Party. 5. Overshadowing: I think for the reasons above SH’s slavery was not seen as bad but it may have also been overshadowed by the grooming comments in regards to Raptalia and the way the author seeming wanted to surround Naofumi with children with crushes on him and have the slave child be the “main” one. While I don’t really have a problem with it since Naofumi literally sees them as either children or his daughters. Less so but have seen people think it is weird for the child to level up and immediately gain a woman’s body and start crushing on the adult who bought her. Sorry for the long post just really wanted to get these thoughts out of my head and hear opinions and things I may have missed

The anime is not explaining very much in this about Rudy feel about certain things during this arc, so I can see why people are feeling the way there. Especially considering he kept Raphtalia as a slave (due to his trust issues, which also made his outlook pretty pro slave as he knew he could trust a slave) and, unless I am misremembering, he re-enslaves her after she is set free following the duel with spear hero. I dont remember anyone having an issue with either of those, but I did see a lot of people react badly to Rudy being "meh" about slavery and wanting him to go ham and try to free them all, which is pretty much suicide and no one in their right mind would do that unless they were overpowered to the point of being able to fight whole kingdoms by themselves.

Reason why the beast girls were so scared and blaming each other was that upon hearing the Roxy figurine was part of Rudy’s faith, in that world destroying something that represents a holy relic of a certain faith means death to the person. 3. The slave girl is being treated like a disciple due to the prince having regrets of killing his younger brother, he is treating her like a little sister. 4. For those of you who missed it in the fight scene, the reason he attacks the dog girl first is because they are known for having a vocal attack, strong scream that stuns targets as shown in season 1 when Rudy was first petting the sacred dog.

He still displays many degenerate behaviors. He's growing. Like Roxy helping him leave his room. Like end of s1 where he didn't stay inside depressed from a traumatic event like in his previous life. But he's still a degenerate. My only thing is the anime doesn't do as good of a job as I wished at displaying his inner monologues of regrets after some of his degenerate actions and thoughts. Like what happened the episode he got the staff from Eris. That whole controversial moment was followed by a sizable section of Rudy fully realizing, owning up to, and seeking to apologize for his wrong against Eris. Call me what you want, but I can relate a lot to Rudy's struggle with his past degeneracy seeping into the new life he's trying to live, even if the degeneracy isn't the same. He's trying to change. He was a scumbag, and he's trying to stop that and get his life together. But he fails. He gets up, even if that in itself is a struggle, and tries and tries to change. To be clear, we're nowhere near the end. The anime is at like 1/3 of the finished main story so far. Rudy has a lot of change to go through still.
