Because there isn't much storyline really. Most if not all of the setup was in season one. That's not even the point of the show. We're basically in a ranking system now where we have to beat all of the contenders to get to the champion. The draw is the fighting and that's why it at least keeps my interest because I want to see what these people can do. If that is how you come into these shows with that in mind it won't let you down. So, i wouldn't expect much more story or character development because I don't think there is much more. I would like to be wrong though.

The way I took it is that these specific demon is probably the oldest out of all the ones we've seen in a fight, and therefore probably knows more about demons and their history. As a result, he probably recognizes Mitsuri's mark as something that older demons may have, not because it looks different to others (Tanjiro and Muichiro).

I see people complaining about this season, but I really like how this has been going. The thing about DS is that it goes on a very specific cycle (Training > Fight against Demon (the stronger the demon, the longer the fight) > Power Ups for both sides (Backstory Time that probably includes a tragic death) > Protagonist wins) and I have always thought that this could become the show's weakness if they're not able to maintain the same intensity every time. That's why I really liked that while they still went through a similar cycle, (this is what makes Demon Slayer Demon Slayer after all) they at least tried to switch things up. This time they showed we also have OP people on the good side. This time they showed that there is no "formula" for a fight (It's not Higher Rank = Longer/More Intense fight). This time they showed not every backstory should involve tragic deaths to create emotional story. These might make this arc inferior to some people, but for me, these are what's going build up the future arcs. Not sure if I make sense but this is my take on this. (Sorry, my first essay lol)

Well, the next season is the last season so you'll get your cake and eat it too. I think this season was more for a lore dump and setting up some other characters. The sword, Yorichi, Demon slayer markings, more Sun Breathing techniques. These are all weapons and things they are going to take into the final battle and what better place to get techniques and weapons than a swordsmith village? This arc should've been called Demon Slayer: Getting Geared up.

Rengoku took on upper three on his own and nearly won. Every other Hashira either needed the assistance of another or a demon slayer mark to fight an upper moon. In the final fight against Upper one it's revealed that Muichiro isn't on the same level as Rengoku, but he had the potential to be greater than all of them. Giyu is higher than Obanai and Mitsuri, and although I agree with Shinobu being at the bottom in terms of sheer killing power and skill she is probably more useful than all of them as her poisons and healing capabilities in long drawn out fights is far more useful in large scale battles. She's the ultimate support character. Tengen, despite having the second highest physical strength and and the highest speed as denoted by the author ranks so low is probably because of this, he's a ninja not a swordsman. A lot of his techniques are like Shinobu's where he needs extra things like bombs, poisons, kunai, and even his ultimate technique is conditional where he has to get use to listening to the enemies technique. It's just not efficient.

If you think about it all the twelve kizuki have markings on their bodies that are what would guess are demon crests. Daki had a flower one on her face and Nezuko got a huge power up when markings started showing up on her body and grew her horn in the fight against Daki. If you go back to S1 Urokodaki explains that breathing techniques and training were developed to allow swordsmen to fight on the same level as Demons. So if you hypothesize that a demon's body is not much different compositional and functionally wise than a human's, except for the regeneration, blood demon arts, hunger for human flesh, and transformation, then it wouldn't be presumptuous to assume that if you took breathing techniques to their logical conclusion they would push the human body to a level to that of a twelve kizuki and produce a demon like mark on their own body.

That mark is the same thing as Muichiro and Tanjiro, when I read that "looks like a demon crest", I didn't really understood what that meant. More info about the "demon slayer mark" will be revealed later on, but basically is a special power up with certain conditions to activate.

It's pretty common for shonen protagonists to walk off or push through minor injuries, bruises, lacerations, blood loss, sprains, twisted limbs, and broken bones, but I haven't come across many characters that were so focused on the heat of battle that they regained their hearing by forgetting they were deaf.

I'm usually able to overlook the inconsistently applied, cliche, mid-battle healing and stamina revitalization afforded to most shonen protagonists (often done without explanation), but I couldn't this time. It felt like the author made Tanjiro deaf as a way to prevent him from easily sharing demon intel with Kanroji. That way, she could pointlessly attempt to behead the demon, thus allowing him to attack her at point blank range, all to show the audience her resiliency (and assets). Then, as Tanjiro leaves to search for the demon's main body, the story would suddenly restore his hearing. Otherwise, he can't listen for the demon when it tries to ran away. That, and Nezuko doesn't say much, so Genya wouldn't have someone to talk with. Demon Slayer is far from the only anime with character injuries that suddenly dissappear, miraculously heal, or seemingly get retconned, but it feels like bad writing to handicap your character in a way that impacts the story if the handicap won't stick around. He should have stayed deaf for the remainder of this battle. Heck, we're always told that Tanjiro has a great sense of smell, so why wouldn't the author use this opportunity to focus more on that?

Wait, did Muichiro's amnesia rub off on the author... or am I the one forgetting something? Tanjiro's eardrums burst in the previous episode, right? I was impressed by the continuity at first, as Tanjiro seemed to be unable to hear anything when the episode started. Or, at least, that's the impression I got when Tanjiro kept reacting to Kanroji's movement and battle techniques instead of reacting to her dialogue as Nezuko did. But then, the story gave us Kanroji's flashback, and when we returned to present day present time, Tanjiro had functioning ears.

Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Avatar + Korra, the Monogatari series, and Jojo's (just to name a few)... they've actually watched some longer series. I'll admit that shows with larger episode counts can feel intimidating when you're trying to play catch up, but I wouldn't rule out World Trigger on episode count alone. From my headcannon it seems like the characters got buffed BEFORE they got marks so that they could scale to the upper moons, which makes them seem even stronger than what they're supposed to be. Some bits of info that were dropped because KnY needs a narrator: All of Mitsuri's attacks are way faster than Tengen's. This isn't quite as epic because the stakes really aren't as high. That's the boost the DSM gives the user. Last season they were fighting for their lives. Now, they're actually fighting on less unequal footing against the demons. The gap's closed a lot through a combination of Tanjiro and company being stronger and the introduction of the marks. Rengoku trained Mitsuri and then she developed Flame Breathing into Love Breathing. In terms of sheer muscle strength, only Gyomei is stronger. The other Hashira's can close the gap with full concentration breathing. Her muscle density is 8x that of a normal person's

@ danial javady I got what you mean, but if we have to rank all the hashira, Uzui will probably the 2nd or 3rd last place. All the hashira are strong, but Uzui retired after the fight with Upper Moon 6, and he never had the chance to get the demon slayer mark and got his power boost like the others. Likewise, Rengoku ranking is probably somewhere in the middle of the list because he died too early.

@danial javady Tengen isn't experianced, hes one of the most INEXPERIANCED hashira(minus ofc the literal child), hes only been in the corps for 8 years at that time(and thats implying he joined them the SECOND he left his family). His experience comes from being a ninja, which =/= killing demons. Sure you have some layover, like in the Gyotaru fight he got some plot when they made him poison resistant due to being a shinobi(same type of plot buff killua got from being electrocuted for the same "ninja" plot reason). Like people said power scaling in the show is pretty pointless because most fights are won through situational plot circumstances, but you can't tell me he isn't presented to us as weak. Regardless of all the extra shit the author had to add post manga to elaborate in tengens ability in general, his ability as a hashira was weak. Sure, dude could of been the best at some point had he not lost an arm and retired, im not saying he didn't have nutty potential or anything. But his story ended there. Barely winning against the lowest ranked uppermoon(regardless of his potential aswell because his current status was 6 and he was presented as 6 to use from the artist at the time). Anything post that is schematics/cope used to try to diminish what actually happened.

None of it is cap. If you care enough, the citations are there in the wiki. Like literally, factually speaking, by the authors own admission, it is incorrect that Tengen is weak. The author put a lot of work into the powerscaling in her story, it was never as simple as "oh muichiro kill gyokko UM5 nice now muichiro > tengen gg". It's insanely comical when I see people claim that she is a bad writer and that the story is generic... and not realize that their reading comprehension skills are simply a tad bit too low to appreciate the detail. But that's a story for another time. The fanbooks have many hundreds of pages. They are official. Someone by the name of violetheart went through the effort of translating a lot of the pages. Power scaling doesn't matter in Demon Slayer. You can't compare one character to another because there are no power levels in this series. *Maybe* power tiers if you're reaching e.g. basic human -> demon slayers -> -> demon up thru lower moon -> tsuguko and misc. DS at the same level -> Hashira -> Upper Moon. But even then, Hashira vs. Upper moon is highly variable depending on matchup. E.g. any other Hashira fighting Gyutaro would have been bodied because of the poison (Gyomei and Muichiro might have also been able to, the former 'cuz he's a big beefy dude with absurd strength and the latter if and only if he had already resolved his internal issues and went for the kill immediately). Like, when I say it doesn't matter I mean there's no in-manga canon power levels of any type (might be some in the databooks I forgor) and the manga is very much written in the older style of shounen before power levels were a thing. Which is to say, characters will eke out a victory *or* completely stomp the demon(s) they're fighting to properly fit the flow of the story. This is especially important to keep in mind with the upcoming arc where every victory won is highly contingent on narrative relevance and not any sort of "X is the strongest demon/slayer."

A lot of these are irrelevant. Uzui has just as many reasons to go off as why he was or wasnt strong, the bigest one he will always have against him is he is markless and almost got bodied by the weakest uppermoon. Reguardless of how strong you try to hype up daki and gyu they were the lowerest upper moon rank for a reason. Like you aren't going to convince me with anything that happened in the show/manga to say uzui was actually a significant force against the demons. Dude could be the strongest man in the world in a 1v1 vs a human but lose to a demon, we measure hashira by their ability to kill demons. By far my favorite hashira, but def one of the weaker ones.

"Tengen is second weakest" This is just factually false... This is weapons-grade tier speedreading level of reading comprehension from whoever told you this. I won't even include my opinion on this... Not even required. There are official fanbooks/databooks that the author is responsible for that will state canonical facts. FACTS: 1) Tengen is physically the second strongest 2) Tengen is the fastest runner 3) 2nd most experienced 4) Has Echolocation and enhanced hearing 5) High poison resistance 6) Musical score technique that lets him read his opponent like a book 7) Author has said it is "EXTREMELY DANGEROUS" to fight Gyutaro and Daki alone. 8) In the manga panels, it is literally directly stated if it weren't for the poison he would've decapitated Gyutaro after having activated his musical technique 9) Mitsuri has the fastest speed when it comes to techniques and Tengen is second. Comparing end game characters to early game characters is kinda stupid. The marks and other factors make a huge impact and play a central role in the plot. Anime watchers are young and details fly by past them. Even more details get lost from just watching the anime over reading the manga. It's kind of impressive how many details get lost when you compare the Japanese audience to international. I can speak and read japanese. Anyways, the wiki has multiple sources if you care enough. The fanbooks give a lot more lore to the characters which is really cool - they aren't shown in the manga. when demon slayers push themselves beyond "human" limits (in this case mitsuri increasing her breathing and blood circulation) they get their hashira mark, which enhances their strength to a point of almost being on pair with upper moon demons! the marks are unique to each character (mitsuri's is heart-shaped and muichiro's resembles a cloud) so it can be a bit confusing at first but they'll expand more on it in the next season I believe

Since it doesn’t look like they will cover it in anime I’ll mention, It was revealed in manga that Love Hashira’s current uniform is made by a Kakushi member who tricked her into thinking that all female demon slayers wear such uniform. Only when Shinobu (Insect Hashira) pointed it to her that her dress is too revealing she found out. But she couldn’t manage to discard her uniform by then. By the way that Kakusi (called four-eyed creep) tried same with Shinobu and others. In response Shinobu burned those uniforms in front of him.

you're right and I definitely don't mind if the majority of main cast members have this kind of history but the point of a backstory is to flesh out the character and give more life/personality to each individual. The way this show decides to deliver these elements has been pretty much the same every single time. They could showcase so many more different things and parts of their life which led them to where they are. It's like how audiences get fatigued from every batman adaptation (barring the newest one) because they have to show bruce's parents being shot again. They could just acknowledge it and show other things instead of the same beats over and over.
