Jujutsu Kaisen - S2 Episode 17

This episode was CRAZY! Sukuna does not give a F!

Comments

kinda cool that the last gojo episode they showed the joker guy and now nanami looks like two-face haha

Losh

when the subjugation ritual ends the shikigami would go away. Megumi forced the androgynous duder with the hand sword into the subjugation ritual with him. Meaning the conditions where the ritual ends are: 1) the shikigami dies 2) ALL people participating in the ritual die 3) the shikigami user cancels the ritual (which megumi can't do because he died) so megumi's plan was to basically checkmate his opponent. If that blond person died, the ritual would have ended and both he and megumi would have died. That's why sukuna stepped in, in order to void the ritual and reset the state of both people in the ritual

Dale Diaz

Subjugation is like a taming event. Megumi can summon a shikigami and try to subjugate/tame it as many times as he wants. He can also use others in the ritual but if they die in the process it would be void. Megumi was on deaths door, so he summoned Makora knowing he would die or it would kill him and the blonde kid then disappear/void the ritual. From my understanding. I dont think Megumi would summon something that dangerous and let it go wild.

Mu Nanyo

Maybe the fight took place in the “kitchen street” part of tokyo? And so they used kitchen related names?

Mu Nanyo

Also regarding the Mappa Studios drama, its been like this forever, most of the big studios treat their animators like shit. Running the studios like sweatshops, they chew up passion and dreams and spit them out like Mahito does. Mappa was founded by one of the guys who used to run Madhouse another studio that did amazing work but had a evil rep. And it looks like history has been repeating with key JJK animators finally walking out

Mu Nanyo

I remember reading that before japan reigned it in for 2023 halloween in Shibuya drew in over 1million people each year. Also over 2million people use shibuya crossing per day. So even 10% casualties you are looking at 100-200k people (monkeys*)

Mu Nanyo

Hope they actually finish the animation of this episode in the future

GranAutismo

I'm not a reader of the manga, but to my understanding, what they say about him getting out of control and causing chaos wouldn't happen, Sukuna explained it when he arrived, Mahora was summoned and Megumi was in a state of suspension, but if Mahora killed the blonde, the condition of that Negumi would die, and since the blonde was the target, once he died, mahora would obviously disappear but not before activating the condition. So no, even if Sukuna didn't arrive, Mahora wouldn't get out of control, Megumi and the blonde would simply die and mahora dissapear, but since Sukuna exorcised Mahora the condition for Megumi to die is not met, but as his ritual said, if someone else helped him exorcise him It means that he couldn't use it anymore later, so I think that by not being able to use that trump card against Satoru, which I imagine was what the head of the Megumi clan used against the head of the Gojo clan, Sukuna would no longer be able to get rid of Satoru with that technique

Ricardo Fierro

man, wtf was this episode, even that has a weak draw at some point all the fight was so fking good, i love it

Ricardo Fierro

this is y i watch in dub

mastertater

That is pretty much how I understood it too. Sukuna defeating as a outsider to the ritual people who were blond guy & megumin, made the ritual invalid and cancelled. So Megumin didn't have to pay the price for failing. I just don't see any chance ever for Megumin to subject this insane Shikigami.

Thamor

Yeah "Cleave" & "Dismantle" would be better words than some cooking show "fillet"

Thamor

Well as we anime viewers have no clue what that brain curse in Geto's body is even and is he actually the true mastermind on all of this. Anyway it feels old, like it might be being from the time when Sukuna actually was walking the earth. My own guess why it didn't kill the 2 girls is because he knew they wouldn't harm Geto's body themselves for the respect they had for him. So they were no threat to him at all.

Thamor

Well you guys were wishing for Sukuna, do you still want him out? =)

Thamor

Fun fact: The opening "Specialz" was written from the viewpoint of a cursed spirit. We know that a cursed spirit would find all this death and chaos pleasurable. So Yuji breaking down and crying while they put the opening song is an allegory for Sukuna to mock him and taunt him while he's literally at the lowest point of his life right now

Brandocommando

lol bad translation was suppose to be shrine

Shaw

Oh guys after my 4th RE watch. Sukuna said he wouldn’t have won back then. Megumi was legit about to summon it s1 episode 5 😯

Jordan

absolute peak

Blaw

but its just weird for me why did stitched geto spare those 2 girls if he does not care at all about them (the girls even threatened him before leaving if i remember correctly)

Jorginho

I laughed so hard at fillet, it sounds funny 🤧

mamimumemo

When ya are confused about something in the episode why don't ya just reread the part where they already explained it?

killilu

if that's the theory, wouldn't he get more rage for killing them by his "own hands"? 🤔 anyway the author already confirmed that geto is dead, it's not his will to choke the fake geto. it's something like dragonfly's dead and still moving. it's not in the manga, he explained that on fanbook during shibuya arc.

mamimumemo

Maybe the translators are under overwork as well lol. Sukuna DE in Japonease is "Fukuma Mizushi" (伏魔御厨子) the second part (厨子) can mean kitchen, or place in a shrine where they store relics, and artefacts, such as knives, the simbolize the cut/slashing effects of Sukuna's attack. So technically is not wrong, but also it doesnt make sense change this NOW.

Victor S

I'd love to see the next few episodes delayed if that means the animators get a break. People have literally passed out on their drawing tables because they are overworked. Nicholas light has uploaded a good video, called "a message to mappa"

Animeter

Uhh no its not. Not all are wrong but definitely not right either 🙂

Kaiser

They're the correct translations but I liked the old ones better fr. Like "Cleave" and "Dismantle" changed to "Fillet" and "Dissect" is a bit of a downgrade imo

dustrr

Those are some terrible translations lol

Kaiser

I have not read the manga but why did possesed geto not kill the 2 girls on the spot in the subway? We saw that real geto is still somewhere there when he tried to choke himself, imagine he randomly bumps into the 2 girls and sees them brutally murdered can this horrific sight bring the real geto back for revenge???

Jorginho

-episode 1 23:37 vs Sukuna -episode 5 10:19 vs Sukuna -Megumi vs Todo episode, a lot of people are saying he was about to, but this is debateable and I dont believe it personally he's willing to go that far. -episode 19 7:15 vs Hanami, this is also debateable since he has not finish clenching his fist when Maki said stop since Yuji and Todo has arrived. -episode 23 10:46 vs Sukuna Finger Curse Spirit You will notice that he is about to Summon Mahoraga if his hands are clenched and bound like a prisoner. All of his 10 shadow techniques have different hand seals corresponding to the animal he is summoning. And he chants "Sacred treasure swing and ring, ring"

Rex Tan

Definitely some translation errors in this one. Dissect and fillet were dismantle and cleave in season 1 and sukuna’s DE is shrine not kitchen. And in the manga, Makora is spelled Mahoraga but that’s pretty minor compared to sukunas stuff. Also what are y’all’s opinion on the opening being played at the end with itadoris breakdown? Lots of people were really mad about it but I thought it was appropriate as sukuna would choose to play a banger amidst suffering lmfao

Tyler Lacy

hahaha

Michelle Lam

hahaha

Michelle Lam

Yuta can heal other people too. Shoko, Sukuna and Yuta.

Bryan

yah that got me hyped!

Michelle Lam

@quitz i think that is totally fair! But doesnt your point also mean we shouldnt be giving credit to Gojo as well then? Since he was "born with it". I just think whether you are born with it or not is irrelevant. Its the potential each character has that makes them interesting and unique.

Michelle Lam

What episodes did this happen? I dont remember Megumi specifically saying he was considering summoning Mahoraga. I need episodes and times stamps please lol

Michelle Lam

Malevolent kitchen. new cooking show?

viluti

The working conditions for MAPPA is worse than bad and they don’t get paid enough

Saith Uchiha

It's a same technique. The japanese is the same. Only the translation is different. In the manga, the shrine still appeared. I think because in this ep the animators could only finish 30% of the work, they didn't draw the shrine. But it worked out because the art style for fighting scene was overall wacky.

mamimumemo

Yeah I wouldn’t even mind a ep each month they need to treat staff better cuz we will lose quality in animation.

Saith Uchiha

Everyone saying they pronounced it wrong. IMO it looked way different I thought it was a diff tech.

Saith Uchiha

If we lose these Animators/Directors we will lose ALOT of the QUALITY of the anime’s they work on. I wouldn’t even mind if they made one ep per month because it’s beautiful animation. MAPPA needs to treat their staff better. If you can get in contact with the animators via twitter or whatever just tell them we highly appreciate you and tell the CEO of MAPPA to treat his employee better. No one wants to work for MAPPA cuz they treat employees worse than garbage.

Saith Uchiha

MALEVOLENT KITCHEN?? LMAOOO it's Malevolent Shrine

GranAutismo

The staff walkout was a result of people playing telephone. Only known thing about this is that the staff is having a meltdown in twitter describing their horrible work environment

GranAutismo

Yeah they mistranslated Sukuna's DE and CT also the name of the Shikigami is wrong. Also for the question about Megumi's sacrifice once all the parties that were in the ritual are dead, the ritual ends so Mahoraga would have disappeared until summoned again by the next person who obtains the Ten Shadows Technique. Still very good episode

Justin Louis

Garbage subs in this episode. They ruined the names of Mahoraga and Sakuna's Domain Expansion. Both names they used were wrong

Justin

Just want to add, how insane Sukuna's domain expansion is, compared to everything we have watched before. Unlike regular domain expansions where you trap your opponents in a seperately created domain outside of reality, Sukuna's domain expansion affects the actual surrounding, slicing anything that has curse energy, and dissecting anything without curse energy, so no more of that coming in or out of the domain. Also, he added a sick twist of a pact that because you are not trapped in a domain, and can freely leave, it allowed his domain expansion to reach up to 200m of a guaranteed slice and dissect radius

Damien Lee

About Megumi’s technique, he got the Demon Dogs as a free-trial. After that, he need to fight the other Shikigamis to have them under his control. Mahoraga is the only Shikigami to have not been tamed by anyone with Megumi’s technique. To tame Mahoraga, Megumi have to defeat it himself. He can force someone in this taming ritual (he force the blonde dude to be in this ritual) but: 1. If the blonde dude die, the ritual is over. Mahoraga will disappear and Megumi will die. (It’s like a contr by act.) 2. Sukuna wasn’t force to be in the ritual. (basically, he’s like a bystander) If Sukuna defeat Mahoraga instead, Megumi won’t die. (The contract became invalid) *this is just my understanding from the episode, so correct me if I’m wrong

Nita.J

malevolent shrine❌ malevolent kitchen✅🤣🤣

soul

According to Gojo’s story about the Head of the clan fighting, we can say that Zenin’s Clan Leader summoned Mahoraga even though he couldn’t tame it just like Megumi did. And because the Gojo’s Clan Leader couldn’t defeat it, they both died. The reason that Gojo told this story to Megumi is because Gojo wanted Megumi to realize that he could grow to become as strong as Gojo.

Nita.J

The fact that the animator used Mappa studio as a model for one of the buildings that was wreaked during the fight says it all

Nita.J

I think as part of the ritual megumi and the ponytail dude would have to die and then the monster would disappear after that once the ritual is finished. but since suskuna intervened himself he almost voided the ritual

Kellan Hendry

Many have explained, but Megumi uses Mahoraga(Makora) as a suicide move. No one has ever beaten it before so he knows he has no chance, but he can summon it whenever he wants. He only tames and unlocks Mahoraga if he beats it alone. He almost summoned it in S1 when Sukuna ripped out Itadoris heart, and when he fought Sukunas finger bridge curse at the end of the season. Idk if you remember, but that's why Gojo said he was holding himself back. Megumi was always "pretty chill" about dangerous situations , because he knew he could beat almost anyone by summoning Mahoraga and dying in the process. Pretty crazy to think that we knew nothing about his technique back then lol

joyzki

To summarize, no sorcerer in history has ever beaten (subjugated) Mahoraga. Megumi does not have the capability to control Mahoraga because he hasn’t subjugated it, but he still has the ability to summon him at any time to try and beat him. That’s why Mahoraga is called a “trump card”, because summoning him pretty much means instant death for the 10 shadows user who summons him as well as anybody he pulls into the subjugating ritual with him. As soon as the Subjugating ritual is over and whoever is a part of it is dead, Mahoraga ceases to be summoned and pretty much just goes back to the “10 shadows realm”, to put it roughly. When Sukuna defeated Mahoraga he became the first sorcerer IN HISTORY to do so. Long story short, this episode introduced one of the top 5 strongest beings in the JJK universe

Antonius K

Megumi would have died against him anyways cause he has no cursed energy left and was badly hurt. So he just said if Imma die amyways I might as well take him out.

Lucas Kogler

Btw I just remember that on fanbook the author said if Yuji weren't a sorcerer he would probably become firefighter. Now I'm thinking if he didn't choose this path he could save more peoppe, ironically 🥹

mamimumemo

Mahoraga (Makora) when summoned was basically like a feral beast. Megumi and any previous ten shadow users have never beaten Mahoraga. You can only control these shadows once you beat them. Until then, you can summon it as much as you want for the purpose of trying to beat it, but it will be feral. In this episode, Megumi forced the blonde dickhead into the submission ritual. Mahoraga killed Megumi but the death is put on pause until the ritual finishes. The ritual finishes as soon as all parties taking part in the ritual dies or wins. Hence Sukuna saved the dickhead. If the blonde dick got killed, Mahoraga would have disappeared and Megumi would actually die permanently.

Davis Dambergs

Just to clear some things , yes Gojo and Yuta and other people can used the reversed technique but Sukuna and then the girl that smokes are the only ones that can use it on other people. And with Mahoraga the shikigami if the people in the subjugation ritual aka megumi and the blond guy died he would’ve disappeared after that. And yes like Michelle said megumi did it cuz he was about to die ( if you go back before megumi almost called him so many times on previous episodes of the anime but didn’t at the end) like when he almost fought Sukuna but then Itadori regained control at the end

Carlitos

oh I just found out that this episode was only 30% of what have been planned by the animators, it's craaaaazy how MAPPA did them dirty 🥹 https://x.com/NobiliRoccia/status/1725408043335082472?s=20

mamimumemo

Thanks for the confirmation! I don't really read subs bcause I speak Japanese, but I remember some of them were different. Btw, do you know why Megumi's technique called Mahoraga? Because in Japanese it's read as Makora 🤔

mamimumemo

If Mahoraga killed the blond guy, then Megumi dies. Thats what happened with the leaders of the zenin and gojo clan when the leader of the zenin summond mahoraga the both died because the guy who summond it hadnt tammed it. Nobody has. Not even megumi. Adding the song at the end was so fucked up lol I really liked that, most ppl didn't.

Juan Jose

Yes

Juan Jose

Tell Michelle there is nothing to be ashamed of! The Reading Comprehension Curse is the strongest of all after all

Salahadine Abaine

In regards to the Megumi’s power, it’s kinda like Pokémon, you have to beat it into submission one at a time until you have defeated all 10. No Ten Shadows user has ever subjugated Mahoraga because it’s too powerful. Megumi believed he was about to die so he would summon this monster to kill the blonde guy even though he’d be killed first. The way the process works is whoever is in the summoning ceremony is involved in the battle so if all contestants are killed the shadow disappears, although the user also perishes since he was killed. Sakura healed Megumi so that his death wouldn’t be permanent once he killed Mahoraga

T-rav 3

WTF was this episode, im shock like wow!!!! That cliffhanger hurt me in the feels. gotta say Malevolent Kitchen was too funny!

SirGeel

Totally agree, I love Megumi, just feel like sometimes people admire him for the "wrong" reasons, we're all entitled to have a different opinion of course. But sometime it just rubs me the wrong way when people only like his character because of the flashy colours or his cool demeanour.

Quitzx1

Yeah, like everyone said, Megumi's shikigami run on pokemon/final fantasty 10 summoning rules lol. He gotta kick their butts first to make them his pets (except for the doggies!). But big baddie Mahoraga has never been defeated. He can summon it any time and as many times as he likes but it's basically a death sentence. While Yuji's breakdown was impactful enough in the manga, hearing Enoki Junya give voice to it was very wow and heartbreaking. My poor baby boy Yuji. 😔

botanbutton

Yes when Jogo burned him, Maki, and Naobito

Sean Walsh

Yeah the English subs are really, really odd with how much they've changed in quality. I have no idea why they would change Malevolent shrine to Malevolent kitchen. I know Sukuna was cookin' but that's such a goofy translation haha

Sean Walsh

Yeah they mentioned that Ieiri (the doctor) is one of the few people who can actually use reverse techniques to heal others (Gojo can't). It's very, very rare to be able to heal oneself, let alone others.

Sean Walsh

Yeah he just has a long way to go cause taming mahoraga seems like an impossible task since no one has tammed him

TEMPEST

fillet lol

Yoona Kim

Cause he was cooking

TEMPEST

bet

Yoona Kim

relax💀 *wink

Yoona Kim

wait was this when he fought Toji? and he flew Nanami out the window?

Yoona Kim

🔥🔥 episode

Guillermo Garcia

Megumi 1v1's the summon. If he wins he gets to control it. Kind of like capturing a pokemon xD

Apathina

they turned my boy nanami into two-face

BowlCutNinja

yeah and his abilities are cleave and dismantle

Jaedyn Trethowen

Subjugation is bringing it under control. Maharoga (Makora) is not currently subjugated, so it attacked Megumi. If Megumi fails to subjugate it but does not die, he can call it again and again and try and subjugate it. In this situation, Megumi used it as a last resort, the purpose of summoning Maharaga was not to subjugate it, but it was rather a last resort to beat Sukuna

Harsh Sharma

No yeah, the subs are completely wrong. It was supposed to say Cleave and Dismantle. And Malevolent Shrine. Also Mahoraga is the correct name of Megumis summon.

Zenru Renari

Im not sure but I don't believe Gojo can use RCT(reverse curse technique) on other people, so far, we've only ever seen him barley use it on himself during the clutch moment when he died against Toji. But maybe he can, we just haven't seen him do it before for that to be a confirmed fact. So far only Yuta and Shoko and Sukuna have been confirmed to have used RCT on someone to heal them.

Zenru Renari

Yes, exactly this. I was looking for someone to explain before I commented. But Ron, to answer your question, if the summon had killed BOTH Megumi and the blonde guy, it would go away.

Antoine Cooper

there must be something wrong with the sub cuz Sukuna's domain name is "Malevolent Shrine" not Malevolent Kitchen

Abdullah Al Saif

Wow! i didn't know alot of that, the movie part is really sad though. But also I heard that there is a chance that future JJK episodes might be getting delayed due to workers striking or not being finished in time.

Zenru Renari

So sad that the sub team fumbled the subtitles on such a dope episode. I was hoping you guys didnt get the messed up version.

Zenru Renari

“filet” and “dissect” are actually called “cleave” and “dismantle” and “malevolent kitchen” is actually called “malevolent shrine”. megumis shikigami is actually called “mahoraga”. Translations have been kinda odd this season

Chilè

Megumi has to tame the shikigami to use them, the one he summoned wasn’t tamed so it ran wild. Also, its name is “ Mahoraga” and Sukuna domain is “ Malevolent Shrine” it was mistranslations on the screen

Ahkenaton Furdge

Why would fushiguro summon Mahoraga was that the only way to survive? Maybe he could’ve summoned a Shikigami that’s not as crazy as Mahoraga cuz that pony tail guy weak as hell idk

Afraz

jjk has a really bad production schedule and the animators have poor working conditions. nothing is confirmed from an official source ab jjk not being finished.

Chilè

Sukuna has been around 3 eps and hes already caused this much chaos. I said it before and I’ll say it again: Demon done right. Evil, sadistic and battle crazy!

Jhn

Gojo has said he believes Megumi, Yuta, and Yuji can potentially be at his level or surpassing. Wonder what that entails. I haven't read the manga. Also, I refuse to believe maki is dead, tbh I was more willing to bet on Nanami actually being dead than Maki.

defnotdai

Why the fuck they translated sukuna domain to malevolent kitchen lmaoo

I swear damn near every episode up to this point has been intense, and you're saying the intensity heightens?!? How is jjk not best new gen at this point then. I mean I personally love it way more than demon slayer

defnotdai

Translations this season have been so off. “Malevolent Kitchen” 😭

Doesn't matter, there's still potential there, which is what everyone is hyped for and questioning. Everyone knows he's not controlling it, but the excitement and curiosity comes from knowing there's potentially a future where he will be able to control it, just like he tamed all of his other shikigami's. He had to defeat them to do so. So, while yes, he was born with the ten shadows technique, he still has to do a lot of work and improvement as a sorcerer in order to use that technique to its full extent. There's still a level of talent and skill necessary. And not only that, but his domain expansion also has a lot of potential too because in season 1, remember he said it's incomplete and "ugly work at best".

defnotdai

W reactions keep doing you

Aaron Mitchell

So subjective is to bring under control. Megumis whole point was to at least get rid of that one guy since he was on the verge of death anyways. Makora/Mahoraga point was to kill that guy and megumi had 0 control after summoning it. And it was mentioned in season 1 by Gojo that he believes the only people who could surpass were Megumi,Yuta,Hakari who was VERY briefly shown and Yuji.

Aaron Mitchell

I hope so, but the whole Twitter situation with directors and animators openly acknowledging it's looking bad does not seem like good news, let's see how it goes

Divine Simp

From what I understand, the animator/director staffs for JJK Season 2 were given an impossible deadline to complete JJK S2. Animation studio staffs are not paid well as the company does not usually get full profits for what the anime actually brings in. The animators/directors were forced to work on Chainsaw Man first as MAPPA managed to gain full rights to the production and profits(something along that line). It is difficult for animation studio companies to get full profits due to things like investors, higher management, copyrights etc. MAPPA immediately wanted to have CSM anime out as the manga was getting really popular. The JJK S2 staff not only had to work on CSM, some of them also had to work on AOT Final Season. This leads to the animator/director staff totally no time to rest and continuing to churn out their already impossible deadline for JJK S2 episodes right after with the little time they have left after working on CSM and AOT. They had to complete and deliver the JJK 0 movie in 4 months when a normal production schedule should be about 1.5-3 years. The animators/directors are basically overworked, low paid and poor working conditions. It really is quite screwed up. The animators/directors are some who love and have passion for animation and their job but at this point some even may have come to dislike what they love to do. :(

Phyllis

lmao the subtitle got me T_T

Jhn

I doubt it will go downhill; things will likely be some changes and things will just take longer. But downhill? JJK is too successful and Mappa is just too big of a company to allow that to happen.

defnotdai

Thats the actual Japanese pronunciation Makora

Ch Ng

it's supposed to be Malevolent Shrine lmao

Heighdaro

The english subs for this episode seems off, seems like they changed a lot of terms they used in S1. I suggest to read the manga and fan book to confirm about the technique after you finish with S2.

mamimumemo

The fact they played the OP song when Yuji came back....usually in the anime, OP is to hype up the main character, but because this song is written for curse side, oh well you know..... Plus they started this episode with his grandpa saying "save people"....they did Yuji dirty, he's just a 15 years old kid 🥲

mamimumemo

mahoraga is a whole cheat code he wouldve killed sukuna if he didnt use that fire arrow technique

kai

Basically, there are only 10 pokemons out there, and Mahoraga is the only one that have never ever been tamed before. And how you capture the pokemons is that you summon them through a ritual to fight them. If you win, you get to control that particular pokemon. However, if there are people around you when you do the ritual, they become part of it. If the pokemon is defeated in such rituals where there are other people around, you do not get to control it even if you beat it. The ritual also ends, and the pokemon goes away, once the summoner and people involved in the ritual dies. Which means Megumi, since he knew he was going to die, did intend to go down together with the guy, and once both of them died, the pokemon would disappear. Basically what his ancester did in the fight with Gojo's ancestor. Summon Mahoraga with no intention of taming it, and just let it go crazy until both the ancestors died

Damien Lee

I don't think Gojo can heal others, only himself

Justin S Tuisamoa

you're right, The strongest shikigami hasnt been tamed by anyone before. The summoning thing is like a suicidal move like kamikaze, like I'll die but my opponent will go down with me.

EZ-3k!3!

The next few episodes are about to be intense and will change the world of jjk

The translation is so bad

ART XY

11:15 Sukuna seems curious about cola and popcorn that Yuji ate during watching movies so he tried them too and doesn't like the taste 🤡

mamimumemo

Don't take this the wrong way. But y'all giving Megumi too much credit, this is a power he was "given" He was born with it. He didn't create this monster, and he isn't controlling it, he simply released it. Just like Itadori and Sukuna, just that Sukuna seeks more than just going on a rampage. You wouldn't applaud Itadori for Sukuna's skills, right?

Quitzx1

so megumi hasn't tamed mahogara yet and will have to defeat it?

defnotdai

Megumi sacrifice himself is nothing weird, Gojo in S1 have said that in backstory before Megumi did Domain Expansion, it's not an exact words but something like "because of the final technique you have, you tend to think low of your potential." That's why when he faced Sukuna, Todo, and special grade in S1 he tried to use Makora immediately, he knew he could beat anyone with sacrificing his life. But then he remembered Gojo's words, so he finally tried to give all out and did Domain Expansion.

mamimumemo

I think Megumi's thought process was, If I'm already on the verge of death, I might as well lay it all on the line, cause I'm gonna die regardless. Megumi basically said he's gonna whoop his ass from beyond the grave lol. And honestly, I feel him on that cause If I gotta die, I would prefer to be killed by my own shikigami over Nanami's bitch.

defnotdai

megumi has to tame/defeat a shikigami in his technique before he can use it under his own control. so all of his summons he uses he has defeated before in battle. the loophole is that he is allowed to summon any of them if the purpose IS to tame them. so he summoned mahoraga to "tame" with the blonde guy he dragged into the taming ritual with him. if a shikigami hasnt been tamed, it will attack megumi first and then deal with whomever megumi dragged into the taming ritual(blonde guy).so Once Mahoraga kills megumi and the blonde guy , the ritual ends and mahoraga would be de-summoned for the next 10 shadows user to try to tame him next. once summoned, he immediately killed megumi, but megumi wouldnt officially die until the ritual ended by either the blonde guy or mahoraga himself dying.so sukuna saved the blonde guy and healed megumi so the ritual could keep going, then defeated mahoraga ending the ritual. but the answer to your question is yes megumi did sacrifice himself, but no mahoraga would not have been running around the city killing everyone. i dont think megumi would ever risk it if he knew that was possible lol. hope this helps imma stop typing bc my fingers hurt.

JayPierlis

Makora??? Isn’t his name mahoraga? Why they changed it?? Wtf

AidinHS

He brought the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga to a knife fight

C

Yea todo not Toji lol

GD LoreRiley

Poor working conditions over there, employees being overworked, etc

Rocky199

Nah it’s just malevolent shrine

Grey

The translation is horrible but it’s just a Pokémon battle in order to use a shikigami he needs to summon it then beat it-ritual, he can bring in other into the ritual but won’t be able to use the shikigami so no point other than to get the shikigami to kill the other person.

Evelio Solache

Wasn’t he about to use it against todo or was that something else?

Grey

this episode was A MOVIE, so sad it's probably down hill from here given the situation with the animators, so so sad

Divine Simp

Mahoraga is his last shikigami that he has not yet tamed. He brought it out as a last resort in situations he believed he would die in regardless. Megumi is quick to forfeit his life as he almost uses it twice in s1 (Sukuna and the finger bearer at the end). If sukuna had not shown up, Mahoraga would have killed them both and then disappeared as the ritual would then end. The ritual is essentially them challenging the shikigami in order to tame it although if megumi uses multiple people he does not gain the shikigami, meaning he must fight it on his own without anyone included in the ritual for him to then gain complete control of it. However no one in history has ever managed to defeat this thing, except now Sukuna ofc lol.

I am so happy I was right about that ponytail power but how annoying. Glad he gone. This episode was fire I also hope mappa workers get 2 weeks off I don’t mind waiting

Jordan

I think the ritual/subjugation purpose is to have megumi to fight and defeat makora/mahoraga before megumi can control it. But till this moment, there no one in zenin clan with 10 shadow technique have defeated it. CMIIW

To answer your question in the beginning, I've written about it on Discord so please check it out. https://discord.com/channels/970803752053379163/1116917454644465704/1174786854743191684 Season 2 is already confirmed to be aired until the end, for upcoming season is not confirmed yet but one of the animators already said that this episode is the final for them and they don't want to work anymore if the environment doesn't change. (it doesn't mean they walk out, they're all freelancers so they take the job if they like) If we don't speak up about it, MAPPA will keep doing the same thing. Especially for new animators with less experience, they just take the work without considering the schedule and low payment because JJK is huge series. And because they have less experience, their drawings have to be fixed A LOT by directors hence it makes the schedule more tight. Animators with experience are already done with those crap, so they don't care and complain on social media. What we can do is stop praising MAPPA (the animators hate it when people praise MAPPA 😂), if possible send opinion mail to MAPPA, stop buying stuffs from MAPPA and start finding out about animators who work for this show by name. You can search on Twitter with the hashtag 渋谷事変 (Shibuya Arc) on the release date, they usually upload their work, they also have something similar to Patreon called fanbox and if you have money you can support them (it's only 100 yen〜500 yen for the cheapest plan, way cheaper than most Patreon).

mamimumemo

Y'all basically got it right at the beginning, Megumi summoning Mahoraga is basically just dropping a nuke on himself and whoever he's fighting because he hasn't tamed it (and I don't think anybody has yet tbh). Ten Shadows kinda follows Pokemon rules, you can only effectively use shikigami you've subjugated. It's also a big JJK meme because at this point in the story it's not remotely close to the first time he's tried to summon Mahoraga. There was just nobody to stop him this time.

David Barron

TOHO and MAPPA cant afford to just leave JJK unfinished, if people are walking out, that's great, but a giant like MAPPA will not be stopped. Overworking the employees is the "norm" for Japanese animation studios.

Quitzx1

if both of the participants of the ritual (haruta and megumi) dies the ritual is over and mahoraga (makora) would disappear again so it wouldn't had made chaos

luquzii

totally understand the pressure but its ok if you don’t understand it

adonai yonas

No they didn't. Mahoraga is the name written in original Sanskrit. Makora is the Japanese translation of it.

MonarchXIII

Megumi was literally about to die anyway, he was bleeding to death and blonde dude was about to kill him. He figured if I'm gonna die, I'll bring my killer with me.

BrianMcFadden

for megumi to subjigate a shikigami he needs to first defeat it, then he can use its powers after he has defeated it. he prolly thought he was going to die either way so he just said fuck it and released him to take out the other guy swell.

tripleZZZ

It may even be a delay in jjk for next episodes, this is just rumors but its not impossible

DanneertyVFX

they are overworking animators, they are working on the episodes only hours before they air in japan.

DanneertyVFX

Where do you watch anime I noticed you always got the wrong translation.

El tío Anonimus

Basically sukuna said megumi would have had a chance to defeat him on they first encounter in season 1

James

in simple terms, the 10 shadows technique is basically like being given 10 pokemon, which you can summon whenever you want but to actually make them obey your command, you have to defeat them first.

Nuka

Basically what’s going on is Mappa is over-working their animators once again ( flashbacks to the Attack on Titan staff a year or so ago) and a good portion of them have been speaking out publicly about how frustrated and tired they are because Mappa isn’t giving them any breaks. The fact that this is the 2nd time Mappa has come under fire for this is concerning to say the least.

Medusa

Also a simpler version of Ten shadows technique. When you inherit the ability you can summon all 10 shinigami but they wont do you bidding until you subjugate them by killing them. SO he had to kill nue and the elephant before the would fight for him but mahogara is too OP so he has never been beaten before until Sukuna came. but since and outsider killed him Megumi still cant use Maho as an ally

GD LoreRiley

Just so you know Malevolent Kitchen isn't a different one from his Malevolent Shrine in season 1. This seems to be a Crunchyroll translation error. Also the shikigami's name in the Manga is Mahoraga.

Skyler Anderson

Megumi is a suicidal mfers lmao. He was about to summon mahogara during the slighting inconvenience in his life. He was about to summon it against Sukuna, Toji, The specual grade curse when he used domain expansion the first time and now some little guy with a knife. Bro literally is overkill and does not care about his life lmao

GD LoreRiley

It was shown multiple times in Season 1 when Megumi was on dire straits that he was contemplating summoning Mahoraga, basically as a last ditch suicide attack to take the enemy with him. That was also one of the lessons Gojo taught him during the baseball game, to be greedy and try to win rather than quickly giving up and using Mahoraga.

Rex Tan

Idk what was up with these translations, but by "subjugation" they meant "tame", so Megumi started off with the 2 dogs and tamed all those other shadows he has, like the frog, rabbit, elephant, etc., so that he could then control them.

Nuka

Onto the next episode..

Nate Banker

It's not supposed to be Malevolent Kitchen? I thought he had two domains or something

FreshStart

Fun fact, the animator destroyed the entire floor for JJK staff in MAPPA studio in this episode 😂 the animators are so done with MAPPA 😂 https://x.com/Hone_honeHONE/status/1725181406509469721?s=20

mamimumemo

Is it supposed to say malevolent kitchen 💀

Jorge v

The translations were whack in this episode they changed Mahoraga to Makora

Wasim Azad

What is up with these translations and name changes? lmao I guess they went with Malevolent Kitchen because of how much our boi Sukuna was cookin'.

David Barron

This season won't go on hiatus but after this season, gonna be a long time till season 3 comes most likely

Nate Banker

Them walking out was confirmed false by one of them, they are all still there and will be sticking it out for the season, what about after the season is done though, that will be the end of mappa most likely if they don't change

Nate Banker

Eight-Handled sword Divergent Sila Divine general Makora aka mahoraga (English translation of makora) is the most powerful shikigami of the ten shadows technique. And without question Megumis true power….its main ability is the power to adapt to any phenomenon. In simple terms if it does not die from a one hit kill it will automatically be immune to the attack

Brandocommando

Thank you to the animators for giving us another amazing episode. Hope Mappa let's them see their families. I'll wait to watch peak so they can animate it on a reasonable schedule

Raden

They changed Mahoraga's name 😌

Chan Chien

i remember how one of you said that nanami was burnt to a crisp and i was waiting in case nanami did come back in order to say that technically he wasnt shown to be burnt to a crisp. even the old zen in clan member was shown to only be burnt like a chicken, not to literal dust haha. anyway, hyped to see this

gdnsx

yooo we about to be hot

hiimiy
