Death Note - Episode 37

This show was a masterpiece.

Comments

I know its been a while, but if by chance y'all havent yet, the original mangas ending is very different. I highly suggest reading it to see a much more realier end.

Tatsu Riveraeon

Yes mamochans voice is 👌👌

Fina Cassie

Why is this woman talking all over this important scene?

H

It’s ass

zak

Back in 2008, when the only thing anime I'd ever cared to watch was DBZ, One Piece, and Yu Yu Hakusho, the movie theater I worked at had a special viewing of an entire season of this random anime I'd never heard of called Death Note. I remember thinking that all of the people who came out to see it were nerds, and most were dressed in goth, which I didn't understand. In 2015 my ex-wife and I were suggesting to each other anime that we should watch, and Death Note was brought up. She was surprised to hear that I hadn't seen it before, and urged me to watch it, and I did, although I was reluctant at first. Very quickly I fell in love with it. Death Note is the first anime I ever watched that was outside of my comfort zone, and it inspired me to watch others that may not immediately look appetizing. Ron took the words right out of my mouth when he called it a masterpiece!

Dragon of the Darkness Flame

Masterpiece show. Undoubtable, awesome reaction too guys!!

Lucas Chaffee

I feel like alot of people miss out on the fact that Light was going to live through all that. Ryuk knew that, but he didn't want to "wait" until Light actually died, so he killed him himself.

Misael Matute

Yeah in the manga, he also asks Ryuk for help and Ryuk tells him he isn't going to die to help him. He has never been his friend...

Misael Matute

Yeah but did you read the title card? It says in their would when people die they go no where. Hense neither those who did and those who did not use the book, go to the same place.

Misael Matute

Bro you guys have to rewatch this series in English. You are really robbing yourselves of an all time experience!

Dontae Claiborne

Why didn't you guys watch the Japanese live action?

JoanneLorac

Dawg YOU miss out a lot cause you’re new to anime and don’t know how to actually read subtitles lol. Dont project

Dival Hans

My life changed many years ago.... I cried harder at Lites death than i did L's... cause he was so deceived.

Darknessfearslight1

In the English version when L speaks annanomously for the first time its so badass dude you get to enjoy the serious 99% with English language in Japanese reading the subtitles we miss out a lot rewatch the English version

Prince Bhujel

No argument 100% master piece even after many years later this should still be a masterpiece I don’t know the animation storyline each and every character is amazing but you guys missed out a lot while watching this series should have watched it in English it hits different I am telling you if you guys still watch it again in English you will instantly notice the difference I would suggest rewatch it in this channel masterpiece like this is worth watching it more than once

Prince Bhujel

And even then ryuk "helped" for his own selfish reasons cus he had. Apples addiction

Gggg Hhhh

Like ryuk constantly told light that he wouldent help him and has constantly proved that

Gggg Hhhh

Bro stop saing this ryuk is not an acomplice hes not no puppetmaster he was just bored in the shinigami realm and dropped a death note to relieve that, the only time he may have "helped/been an acomplice is in the time he told lighr about the cameras in exchange for some apples cus light wouldnt let him eat due to the cameras being inside his house

Gggg Hhhh

Have you guys rewatched the live action yet?

rdot

You should watch «  L funeral scene » from YouTube its a cut scene

Sadri

Really enjoyed watching your reactions to this series! You guys are great at what you do!

jumblemonkey

Though you guys enjoyed it at the end, the reaction throughout the whole episodes could be done better. This show is one of my personal masterpieces, but unfortunately you didn't really follow the story quite well. Consistently missing many points and making wild assumptions. I'm okay with valid criticisms, but most of your assumptions were occurred because you're just missing some points from the previous episodes. And because you argued with the storyline, you were missing the arguments that were built up for the next story. My suggestion to you then would just enjoy the show the first time you watch it. You can rewatch it the second time and only then build your arguments against it. I by no means think this is a perfect show, I've found a few weird things the second and third time watching it, but 90% of the confusion there were attributed to not following the narrative thread. You did a really good job in reacting AOT. To me, this show is on the same level with AOT and deserves more appreciation.

Ihsan Nurul Iman

Just want to point out the ending symbolism where light dies in the middle of the staircase. Which represents the stairway to Heaven but like the notebook says those who used the book will not go to heaven or hell, which is why he’s right in the center

Havok27

My first anime about 10 years ago. Re-watching this for a second time with you has been a special journey. Thank you Michelle & Ron.

tyria

I would like to point out how amazing of a job L did at picking out his team. Even with some of them being on the fence about whether kira was good or evil in hindsight, when push came to shove not a single one of them hesitated for a moment to stop light. He picked out a team with a strong sense of justice just like he planned to it shows how good of a judge of character he was.

Gin Ichimaru 3c

They feel weird more do because of film making techniques such has spending time with the main character the entire show. As well as them making it a dramatic end. You're probably joking around but just saying lol

Desto Samuels

It was a amazing experience to rewatch these masterpiece with you. Thanks!

Leandro Testoni

It's easy to like Light, the same it is to like another other ambiguous characters, like Hisoka, Freeza and some guys in Naruto that I wont mention 'cause of spoilers. Don't know where you guys are at Shippuden, so best not to say anything. The creation of these dual characters, who are really the worse, but are captivating at the same time is what makes the show good. There's nothing wrong to feel weird for a character even if they are disgusting. Even in real life it happens. I think that it's weird 'cause you see it in his perspective, and also are just shocked by the previous scene, that was really emotional and brings up again a lot of things, like Light's dad being dead, and everyone realizing that they've been manipulated for all those years by someone close. That said, yes: Light was a mass murderer. Even Ryuk says it at the first episode, when Light tells his plan to him. He says something like "And then you would be the only criminal alive". Peace without understanding is not peace, is fear (don't know if you guys are much of a readers, but if so, read 1984, by George Orwell. It's exactly about that). And fear is nothing but another tool to control people, like Light was doing since episode 1. And it has no limits. It began as a avoiding a rape and ended at a guy killing a lot of cops, people who was working, fbi agents, a wife of one of these agents (he writes down that she suicides in a way that no one would ever found her. We don't see how she does it, but it was probably really fucked up), making a woman commite suicide by fucking burning herself to death, and another one by jumping of a build (Misa) killing two teenagers in the process (L and Mello, that was younger than L) and tried to kill a child (Near. 13 years old). And the list could still go on easily.

Leandro Testoni

Wym they just did? I know that had previously seen it but they said they don’t remember how bad it actually was compared to the anime

Ace

is it that good? i only heard about it does it top the list over Deathnote

Ron Jackson Jr

sorry but they just did it was ass lol

Ron Jackson Jr

TEAM LIGHT ANYONE

Ron Jackson Jr

Also you two should read the sequel story to this show. Its very short and sweet. Its called "The a-Kira Story" :)

Scar

You feel weird because you want to praise Light so bad but don't know if you'll get cancelled for it lol. You can say it.... Light Yagami made the world a more peaceful place to live in.

Scar

I don't throw around "Masterpiece" very often, but this show was exactly that. Till this day still ranked the number one written story in my book.

Scar

Glad you all loved the series, Rons face through most of the reaction says it all lol It's def a ending that leaves a memoral impact. For polls I'm still going to be rooting for Made in Abyss, I believe it's time will come at some point. Even if not on the next one.

Desto Samuels

We are so used to seeing light in control. So when he wasn't and everything started falling apart, it just felt weird and sad 😔

Rene Salgado

You might consider having Bakuman in the poll for the next anime to replace this when you finish it since the anime Bakuman was created by the same Team that created Death Note. The animes are VERY different though. It would be an amazing example of their range for you and the viewers of your reactions.

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

facts. Loved how they showed how pathetic he was when he had no one to use. Like is that your god? lol

Issac Gonzalez

The ending in the manga shows a Kira cult worshipping him. So in the end he did become a god to some people.

Issac Gonzalez

I think the reason people feel bad for Light is because he showed everyone how incredibly talented and smart he is, but it's a shame he used his gift for bad and not good. Also, I really appreciate how realistically they portray Light, a narcissist with a god complex, at his final moments. Pathetic, crawling on the floor and yelling. Also, when he asked about Misa and Takada at the end, it was not about him caring about them. He was desperately looking for someone who had a death note and could bail him out. Only problem is, he was so desperate and incoherent that he completely forgot Takada was already killed by himself and Misa didn't have a death note or the memories of it because of his own plan. He was just clinging to anything he could desperately

Pizza_Mozzarella

They havn’t, they definitely neeed too tho! especially since they liked death note and AoT. IMO code geass has the best main character and ending of the 3 shows. AoT overall probably the better anime… you dont have to agree with me :)

KevUrb

Did they confirmed that they're gonna watch Code Geass? Damn. It's my favorite anime aside from AOT and Death Note.

Aileen Mae

the only reason he lost is cuz mikami disobeyed orders

iu

hard not to empathize with them though when we watched their whole journey unfold

Soul Expansion

Leave it to anime to make us feel bad for mass murderers hahaha

Soul Expansion

Would love to see y’all react to the dub scenes of light and also the sub and dub of L funeral🥲

Kolvex

Thanks you two make me watch this amazing anime again , : )

朱宇淵

with near and light, i wanted light to win but if it was L and light, i wouldve been indecisive on who i wanted to win at the very end

gdnsx

The execution and how dramatic they made it is supposed to make it an emotional scene. As the reactors say he becomes pitiful and you'd never expect him to go out like that even if you want him to lose.

Desto Samuels

now imagine if it was L and light at the end rather than near and light, that wouldve been so much sadder imo

gdnsx

wait, is it just me or the intro is cut? like they didn't show the scene before the intro

Divine Simp

loved your reaction guys, i felt the same. even tho i loved L and i cried when he died, i felt so sad for light lol just as mich said, it was very pathetic but ryuk writing his name made it worse to me😭 i even remember being in school telling one of my friends (who had watch DN at that time) how sad i was feeling for light😭

honeyଓ

Miyano Mamoru! Mannn, this really put him on the map. Dude is awesome. You know him as Douma (Upper Moon 2) from Demon Slayer, Miya Atsumu from Haikyuu and Benimaru from Fire Force! He's a legend. Some amazing voice acting from him in this final episode. A great ending for a very great story. I get feeling sort of weird concerning Light. He started as a high schooler that wanted to see a better world, so good people didn't have to suffer at the hands of horrible people...but he got it all twisted into something dark. He hurt people that would do anything for him, people that loved and cared about him, people that were innocent....it's a fitting ending for him. He was as sad, human, and pitiful as anyone else. Good stuff. also, the WAY MATSUDA LIT HIS ASS UP 😂😭

botanbutton

I hope you guys react to some parts of the dub, the voice acting is honestly so good

Bsg Apollo

sometimes i'm tired of happy endings and just want the bad guy to win

NigerianPrinceNoScam

I'm with you. Praise KIRA!!! haha

SRigby

-commenting before watching the reaction- You guys should react to the live action movie for the meme for sundays death note slot lol

Ace

I'm so surprised I missed that all 😭 yeah the horror of light realizing his losses really showed this ep, they animated him and mikami very grotesquely 💀 it was so weird to see him experience fear for basically the first time. im a light fan but with the way he played ever since L died, combined with near's cold confidence and planning, he would've needed a miraclefor him to not be caught eventually. they wete on his ass. the laugh into the "I'm Kira" is still fire tho 😂

firepingu150XD

First time watcher too! I couldn't help but cry during this episode. I was on Near's team, but couldn't help to feel bad for Light, the way he screamed for help, but no one was helping cuz he betrayed them or killed them and then trying to run away. First time we see him scared to death. He had the right intentions, but he turned evil, the power got to his head and at the end, he got reminded that he has no power at all, just a toy a shinigami that was bored. You probably missed the episode where his dad died or maybe didn't watch the whole thing! Damn 🥲 Just know that light didn't gave a shit.

LeNiarfe

ye im on Team light i actually thought he was gonna get away like when they found out that he was Kira. Honestly good ending

Ron Jackson Jr

The stairs scene always gets me cause of how karma finally caught up to light and him begging for his life was so satisfying to see lol

Nate Banker

yessir, i have seen it but I like them to watch it so i. can refresh my memory.

Ron Jackson Jr

Light's manic laugh is amazing, always gives me chills. I always appreciated Ryuk not taking sides. Unlike Rem who lied when L asked her about the notebook, Ryuk was honest to Near when asked how the notebook works. He might have gone along with Lights plans but ultimately he had no horse in the race.

Steini Ey

Kuroko is a good recovery show to watch after Death Note sucks that L died. Team Light anyone let me know.

Ron Jackson Jr

I'm on Near's side, but couldn't help to feel bad for light. He had the right idea about making the world a better place without bad people and all, but his heart got too dark, he became evil to the point where he got his own father killed and didn't even cared. It was just sad seeing him for the first time scared, almost as if he regretted everything once he saw that no one was by his side anymore cuz he betrayed them or killed them. 😢

LeNiarfe

its tmr

Ron Jackson Jr

Yep thats what the author meant

Nate Banker

oh nothing, just waiting for ya'll to drop the latest episode of jjk

defnotdai

damn fr im on team light sucks that they're always rooting for Near but like i actually thought Light was gonna get away from it

Ron Jackson Jr

True, I just think these were some elements that really showed that to be the case.

Jake Turner

Yall need to watch the OVAs they're a true end to the story lol

Naruto Uzumaki

Well not only that but it is indeed confirmed by the author that L is smarter than Light and is the smartest character in the series.

Naruto Uzumaki

Code geass when?

Simic Trucido

I think you can feel sorry for him, in a way, seeing him like this at the end. But to me it's wild how people can legitimately defend his cause

okay striker

Right

Dajhaya Jones

@ron there is an OVA of daeth note that shows something interesting of what happened after this. In my dvd box of death note there is an extra 5-6 min OVA. Just search like death note OVA 1 and i think you will find it.

Kevin Depoppe

Also Yes is time for my favorite sports anime after my favorite (what category even is this? Crime anime?)

ShaquanVirse

It wasn't not only a flashback about himself younger, it was almost "if I didn't have Death Note, that would be me right now.", because he can see himself passing through him, going in the opposite direction. I remember watching this final episode and I cried so much, and I didn't even like Light. But it was a feeling like the end of AOT nowadays :) Masterpieces always will be engraved into our heart. Thank you for another great reaction!

Maruey Coelho Paranhos

Yeah this is one of my favorite anime. I do feel bad for Light because he had such a good motive but then he started killing good guys. Yeah Misa and her committing you know. She did mention how she couldn't live without the love of her life - her death was more impactful to me

ShaquanVirse

this WAS a masterpiece. in my top 5 for sure. i couldn't explain the emotions i felt after watching this my first time either.

bluemilk

Light would have won if Mikami didn't make that mistake. My boy should have won

Hertog

I'm still a couple episodes back on the uploads but I just wanted to mention a couple points; I think the reason that L could never give up on the fact that Light was Kira was almost entirely because of the potato chip scene. In that scene, Light killed lesser criminals, straying from his normal patterns, in order to show L that criminals who Light should have no knowledge of were dying. When Light turned himself in to be confined for the 50 days, he said "I might be Kira," suggesting that he could be killing people subconsciously. But the potato chip scene could have indicated two things to L; that Light WAS Kira, because of the change in the killing pattern ONLY as Light is being watched. And that Light was fully aware while it happened, acting in a way to deliberately misguide L and provide himself with an alibi. I think this is how Light dug himself into a hole, and the fact that L caught on to this leads me to believe that L was definitely smarter than Light. (Sidenote: L goes for most of the show with no knowledge of the death note, determining its powers indirectly. Meanwhile Light has a tool that only he knows the rules to, even manipulating the rules before L can see it for the first time. The only thing that wasn't in Light's favor was Misa leaking a ton of information and getting herself caught, and then REM threatening him, which admittedly isn't an insignificant point. Still, getting REM to kill for him almost seems like cheating to me now.) The other point I wanted to mention is in regard to Light's sexuality. I don't like to surmise about things that the author hasn't made clear in some way, especially psychoanalyzing character traits almost out of nothing, but the more I thought about this, the more I think that the author intended it as a subtext of Light's character. The scene between Light and L washing each other off before L's death is somewhat jarring, and obviously parallels Jesus washing the feet of Judas, not knowing that he would betray him. But this scene just feels really vulnerable for light, and it made me think that maybe all the "friendship" stuff between them was more true than Light would've admitted. Definitely not trying to ship them or anything, but there's also the point that Light was dating a supermodel, who would've done literally anything that he asked. And ALSO Takada, who is literally "Miss To-Oh", and is probably much closer to "Light's type", and we are just never shown him taking an interest in the idea of that whatsoever. Just an interesting idea for his character, which may or may not be founded. 🤷‍♂️ Also I think you guys should check out Bojack Horseman. 😉

Jake Turner

that awkwardness after ur done watching a good show is so real haha

rin okumura

Loved this anime start to finish. Was a joy to watch it again with you guys. You should consider bumping code geass up higher in your watch list as IMO. It is considered as great as death note is and they are similar in some ways and from a similar era of anime. According to Google both aired in 2007.

Jonymush

In the manga, Light tries to beg Ryuk to kill everyone for him at which point Ryuk writes his name down and shows him so he gets the 40 seconds knowing he's going to die. Much less of a peaceful end than this

techtrax

Damn man, as a first time watcher of this show, this shit had me crying, the emotions man! What a masterpiece man, I loved it! Glad I got to watch this show for the first time with you guys!

LeNiarfe

Watch Monster i personally think its better than this

Hussaw

you should check out Code Geass. It has similarities with Death Note and AoT.

jb0x

damn that's sad 😕 bro these were the thing i watched right when they dropped but i guess somehow. i also hadn't seen ANYTHING about the 3rd shinigami that was teased after the rescue too

firepingu150XD

Masterpiece

Ahkenaton Furdge

Stairway to neither heaven nor hell

yoshi

Yes unfortunately Lights dad died in episode 29, you must have missed the whole episode.

dmc 1219

Had a great time watching this with you guys! Sad to see it end! I do feel bad for Light, he could have done something great for the world if he didn't find a death note. 😞

dmc 1219

I will never understand how people feel bad for Light lol

FuegoQuis

His death was pathetic in the manga, this was a better ending to light imo

Santos Villafana

It just goes to show that in the end he was just mortal. We know lights actions were wrong but you feel bad because of his intentions of peace and yes he did go out pitifully because he is just human not a shinigami.

Mgb

DUUUDE THIS EPISODE 😭 shit was crazyyy. also am i alone in this but i watched with yall the whole time and I just now found out from matsuda that light's dad is dead??? am I crazy cuz the last time i saw him was the sister rescue and wondered why i never saw him since. anyways, what a great story, a sad ending too. crazy thing is that it's in such a niche genre of anime (imo), and they did it amazingly. glad I watched with yall! definitely one of my favorites <3

firepingu150XD

And remeber that this story only happened bc Ryuk was bored and wanted to see what a human would do with a notebook

Trinature

I think Light is the perfect example that power can drastically change almost anybody

Trinature

If you like this style of anime where the main character is extremely smart and everything they do is incredibly thought out. Classroom of the elite is similar

Jeremy

What an awesome reaction series. The rise and fall of Light definitely leaves you with mixed emotions.

FlashAfro

Also, check out the canon manga ending to the series. It hits a little more imo. I don’t know why they changed it in the anime.

Mateusz Kuklinski

You guys should really check out the Death Note side story manga. They are really great and interesting stories. Sadly they haven’t been animated.

Mateusz Kuklinski

Light dying in the middle of the stairs is symbolic for him not going to heaven or hell due to using the death note. You need to check out OVAs. It adds some more layers to what just happened.

Davis

Honestly best show can’t wait for Kuroko time for sports anime

Ron Jackson Jr

Fucking stoked let’s fucking go

Ron Jackson Jr

The classic stairs scene

Nate Banker

I realized something after 3 years of finishing Death Note was the reference to Light's death on the stairs. of not being able to go to heaven or hell

Juanfer Chox

Legendary show, now in comes kuroko

Tre

Ive said this many times on your patreon but especially now since you guys have finished death note and AoT. Please consider watching code Geass, the anime itself is great although it does have some flaws, but the main character carries the show and the ending is widely considered as one of the best anime endings of all time. The main character and the show draws many comparisons and parallels to Light and Eren and their respective shows, although in a completely different type of setting. It came out around the same era as death note and its about the same length.

KevUrb

my boy should've won

T K

when you think about it, light didnt actually lose, it was more mikamis mistake

gdnsx

finallyy
